[Bug 1450279] Re: gnome flashback session fails to end on logout in Trusty
Hi Alberts, Good work! I was also able to connect and logout multiple times after restarting xrdp (sudo service xrdp restart). All the processes end properly and the rdp window closes. [Bug 1440570] Re: VNC'ing into gnome-session-flashback (Metacity) in non-shared desktop mode causes Super+KEY pressed behavior
Hi Alberts, Yes, Super+Tab only works before patch is added. It doesn't work after patch is added. As you said, Alt+Tab is an alternative for Super+Tab. I've done some more testing of Super key shortcuts using shortcuts from https://help.gnome.org/users/gnome-help/stable/shell-keyboard-shortcuts.html.en The only other shortcut that worked in the unpatched metacity in the problem scenario, is Super+Shift+TAB, and Alt+Shift+Tab is an alternative. As there are alternatives for the 2 Super key shortcuts that worked in the unpatched metacity in the problem scenario, there should be few (or no) objections. Thanks for your help. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1440570 Title: VNC'ing into gnome-session-flashback (Metacity) in non-shared desktop mode causes Super+KEY pressed behavior To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/metacity/+bug/1440570/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1440570] Re: VNC'ing into gnome-session-flashback (Metacity) in non-shared desktop mode causes Super+KEY pressed behavior
I have tested metacity 1:2.34.13-0ubuntu4.1 and while the s key now works correctly (no longer opens the Applications menu), the Super (Windows) key no longer works. For example, Windows+Tab no longer switches between application windows. I uninstalled the trusty proposed metacity, libmetacity-private0a + metacity-common, and reinstalled the current 1:2.34.13-0ubuntu4 versions to verify that the Windows key actually did work before the proposed patch. Some may say that the Super key not working is a much smaller problem than the s key always opening the Applications menu. I'd be OK with not being able to use the Super key but maybe others would consider this a serious regression. I'll leave it to others more qualified to decide if this should be flagged as verification-done or verification-failed. My testing was done using Windows 7 Remote Desktop Connection to connect to a Ubuntu 14.04.2 machine running xrdp. The Ubuntu machine is a client vm of a VMware vSphere host.

[Bug 1450279] Re: gnome flashback session fails to end on logout in Trusty
Hi Alberts, I have changed ~/.xsession to : gnome-session --session=gnome-flashback --disable-acceleration-check --debug and attached the resulting ~/.xsession-errors (xsession-errors20150501) I removed: export DESKTOP_SESSION=gnome-fallback export XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=Unity which you suggested in bug 1251281. If you'd like to see the --debug output with those settings included, please let me know. I saw there are some suspicious msgs in xsession-errors20150501 that made me think dropbox may be the problem. So I did the test again as a different user (tims) which does not use dropbox. Unfortunately, the seesion still hangs on logout. The debug xsession errors for that test are attached as xsession-errors-tims-nodropbox. Thanks very much for your help. Please let me know if I can do anything else. ** Attachment added: xsession-errors20150501 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-session/+bug/1450279/+attachment/4388760/+files/xsession-errors20150501 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-session in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1450279 Title: gnome flashback session fails to end on logout in Trusty To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-session/+bug/1450279/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Oops, I should have posted the comment first before adding an attachment. Here is the rest of comment #89: I have attached the ~/.xsession-errors file. [Bug 1450279] [NEW] gnome flashback session fails to end on logout in Trusty
Public bug reported: On logout, the window changes to a blank purple screen and never closes. All the processes are still running. This is a big problem because in Trusty, Unity needs hardware acceleration, so you cannot use Unity in any remote access scenario (like using windows remote desktop to access a VMware vSphere Ubuntu Trusty vm with xrdp) where hardware acceleration is not available. Many people are trying to use alternative desktops, like gnome-flashback or xfce (xfce seems to have too many downsides in this situation for me). This is a follow on from https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-session/+bug/1251281 where gnome-session-flashback was modified to accept a new flag (--disable-acceleration-check) so that a gnome flashback session could be started. Thanks to the patch for 1251281 we can now run gnome flashback but it doesn't logout properly, which makes it unusable. Environment: Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS (up to date) gnome-session-flashback 1:3.8.0-1ubuntu12.2 gnome-session 3.9.90-0ubuntu12.1 ~/.xsession : gnome-session --session=gnome-flashback --disable-acceleration-check Using Windows 7 Remote Desktop to connect to Ubuntu vm. Login to xrdp using module sesman-Xvnc I have attached the ~/.xsession-errors file. ** Affects: gnome-session (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: trusty ** Attachment added: .xsession-errors https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1450279/+attachment/4388015/+files/xsession-errors -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-session in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1450279 Title: gnome flashback session fails to end on logout in Trusty To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-session/+bug/1450279/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Would someone please explain what the problem is in simple terms?
