[Bug 1750889] Re: GNOME Terminal scrollbar looks weird on clean GNOME session under Wayland

2018-02-27 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
I'm seeing something similar on Bionic when using the Communitheme on
Wayland session, where the scrollbar also goes past the bottom of the
window. It does not show up when using Xorg. I think the problem also
appears under the Ambiance theme on Wayland, but I do not have a
screenshot immediately available demonstrating this. The severity of the
problem seems to change depending on the theme used.

Public bug reported:

To reproduce, either enter the Appearance section of System Settings or
run 'gnome-control-center background' in a terminal. While loading the
list of wallpapers, the window will suddenly close.

Terminal output from running the program:

[Bug 1199510] [NEW] Attempting to unlock sometimes goes to solid black screen

2013-07-09 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
Public bug reported:

I'm running Ubuntu 13.04 on my Toshiba Satellite A505-S6960 laptop, and
I noticed an incredibly annoying problem sometimes when I let my screen
lock and I try to get back in.

If I enter my password correctly, most of the time I'll just be taken to
a solid black screen. Once I move the mouse, the lock screen appears
again asking for my password. When this happens, the only way I can get
back into my desktop is to keep repeatedly trying to unlock until it
finally lets me in (after about 3 - 7 tries).

Once I'm back in the desktop, a crash report for gnome-screensaver comes
up asking if I want to report it. No indication of any associated bug
report is given with it, however, which is why I'm reporting this
manually.

[Bug 996770] [NEW] Lock screen is occasionally solid black except for mouse cursor after resuming from suspend

2012-05-08 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
Public bug reported:

I have lately found that my screen will remain completely black except
for the mouse cursor when I try to log back into my locked session after
resuming my laptop from suspend. The cursor does change into a text
entry cursor when I move it over the general area where the password
entry box would be located, so I assume it's simply a display issue of
some sort.

It's worth noting that this problem only occurs occasionally for me, and
only when I resume my laptop from suspend after i.e. closing its lid for
travel. If I let my laptop turn off and lock its screen on its own after
some time while plugged directly into a wall socket, the problem does
not occur then, no matter how many times it's allowed to do so.

I can still access a tty by hitting Ctrl+Alt+F1 when this occurs, at
which point my only workaround I've found so far has been to restart the
machine via the command line.

My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite A505-S6960.

A similar issue seems to have been asked by somebody else on AskUbuntu

2012-03-14 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
I get the exact same problem with rhythmbox-client --play and several
other options (--pause, --play-pause, etc.) on my Precise install.

Interestingly enough, rhythmbox-client --notify seems to be an exception
of sorts; it still refuses to work, but returns instead:

Rhythmbox-WARNING **: Unknown option --notify

...despite --notify being listed in the man page. (If that's a separate
issue, let me know and I'll file a new report for it.)

[Bug 939200] Re: Swell Foop: Game Undo Move does not work

2012-03-12 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
I disagree with the Fix Released status. I have visited and read the
upstream bug, which was closed simply because Swell Foop no longer has
buttons for Undo/Redo. However, it still has menu entries under the Game
menu in the menu bar, and those still don't work. It was those menu
entries I was referring to when I filed this bug.

** Summary changed:

- Swell Foop: Game Undo Move does not work
+ Swell Foop: Game Undo Move menu entry does not work

[Bug 939200] Re: Swell Foop: Game Undo Move menu entry does not work

2012-03-12 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
...ah, I see. Just built gnome-games from trunk and indeed it appears
that undo/redo were removed entirely.

Interesting to note that there is no longer a menu (at least, not one
that is accessible using Unity's global menu), but options like New
Game, Help, and Preferences are still accessible via the HUD.

[Bug 939200] [NEW] Swell Foop: Game Undo Move does not work

2012-02-22 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
1.) Open Swell Foop.
2.) Make any number of moves (even just one) to clear a group of blocks.
3.) Go to the Game menu and select Undo Move.

Expected behavior:
The blocks you just cleared in the last move you took should reappear.

What happens instead:
Absolutely nothing.

I installed the game in Precise and investigated this issue after seeing
it mentioned by nick in a Software Center review dated 2011-05-01.

[Bug 928876] [NEW] Appearance Behavior says to click Restore default behaviors even after clicking it

[Bug 868400] Re: Synaptics touchpad stops working - two syndaemon instances running

2012-02-03 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
Got this issue today shortly after installing Precise Alpha 2 over my
11.10 partition on my Toshiba A505 S6960 laptop. The 11.10 partition was
upgraded from 11.04 and did not have the same problem.

The synclient TouchpadOff=0 workaround works for me too.

[Bug 917521] [NEW] My own chat messages build up in the messaging menu and can't be cleared

2012-01-16 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
Public bug reported:

Just tonight, while chatting with two people in Empathy I noticed that
notifications for my own chat messages were building up in the messaging
menu and could not be cleared. Clicking Clear at the bottom of the menu
makes the envelope icon return to white, but all the entries shown are
still present and will not go away, even when clicking them. See

[Bug 879926] Re: evince crashed with SIGSEGV in g_param_spec_pool_lookup()

2012-01-11 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
I too got this crash on Precise when trying to open a PDF created from a
.odt in LibreOffice. Interestingly, I had previously opened this PDF and
a couple others successfully immediately before closing them and trying
to re-open the one which caused the crash; a second attempt produced the
same crash, and eventually the problem went away after I opened a
different PDF then tried re-opening the affected file a 3rd time.

[Bug 711429] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_closure_invoke()

2011-12-22 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
Now got this crash again. Twice, actually; I'm thinking I can reliably
reproduce this on Precise. The steps I followed:

1.) Open Nautilus and start in your home folder.
2.) Hit Ctrl+H to show hidden files and folders.
3.) Navigate into ~/.hedgewars/Demos and copy the replay file(s) in there (this
assumes Hedgewars is installed and you have available game replays; more
experimentation would be needed to see if other files/folders can be used
instead).
4.) Navigate back to the home folder and hit Ctrl+H again to hide hidden files
and folders. Go into the ~/Ubuntu One folder.
5.) Attempt to paste what was copied into there.

The theme will revert to standard GNOME and Nautilus will close; the
paste operation will not occur and an Apport window will come up.

A side effect of this crash is that once Nautilus has been triggered to
crash like this, it is seemingly impossible to start it again without a
reboot, as any attempt to start it will fail and a gnome-settings-daemon
Apport crash window will come up instead. This basically breaks
graphical file browsing on the user's system.

Note too that at step 4 above the files are specifically pasted into the
Ubuntu One folder. Although I have not experimented with it much, it
appears that pastes elsewhere (i.e., the desktop) still work just fine
and don't cause any issues.

I just got this crash after unsuccessfully trying to import some music

on the rest). It produced numerous input errors when I did so that
showed up in their own sidebar category. The crash report came up after
I closed Rhythmbox.

[Bug 826089] Re: gnome-shell writes to ~/.gconf/apps/metacity/general affects Workspaces shown in unity-2d

2011-12-21 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
I can confirm this is still an issue on Precise Alpha 1. The workaround
is to first log into a GNOME Shell session, have 4 workspaces open in
the workspace switcher, then log out and select Ubuntu 2D from the
LightDM session menu. (Of course, if fewer workspaces are desired, you
can also open fewer workspaces in GNOME Shell using this method. I don't
know what would happen if 5 or more workspaces were opened since I
didn't try that yet.)

logging back into Unity 3D and starting Firefox.

[Bug 903388] [NEW] Totem is the default music player instead of Rhythmbox

2011-12-12 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
Public bug reported:

I couldn't find any duplicates, though bug 805938 is similar (where
Totem was the default instead of Banshee on 11.10).

Simply put, Totem is once again the default music player in Precise
instead of Rhythmbox. This can be seen in both the Unity dash and in the
