[Bug 1244361] [NEW] HDMI/DisplayPort is selected as sound output even when connected display has no sound capability

2013-10-24 Thread Clint Byrum
Public bug reported:

On upgrade to Ubuntu 13.10, I noticed my sound doesn't work by default
if my external display is plugged in. I have an HP EliteBook 7940m
connected via display port to an HP ZR2440w monitor which has no
speakers. When it is connected I have to go into sound settings and re-
select the laptop speakers to hear sound.

[Bug 1070905] Re: Universal Access panel crashes if overlay-scrollbar isn't installed (g_settings_new() on absent schema)

2013-01-23 Thread Clint Byrum
Given that this bug has been missing the details required by the SRU
process for more than 2 months, I am rejecting the upload. Please re-
upload after adding the details to the bug.

If this bug is not part of the delta, then please remove mention of it
from the changelog, as bug #1035219 does have the necessary information.

[Bug 1029092] Re: Playback plays currently working file in gnome-sound-recorder

2012-09-12 Thread Clint Byrum
Hello James, or anyone else affected,

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in

** Description changed:

  Impact:
As expressed in bug 1011436, we have a problem currently in ubuntu where if
we record another file using g-s-r, it plays the first file that was recorded
ever. Specifically:
I upgraded gnome-media to 3.4.0-0ubuntu4 and had a test, now the second
record can play, but still has something wrong.

  Test Case:

  Round 1

  * Open Sound Recorder, click Record sound button, say This is the first
record, then click Stop sound
- * Click Play sound, you can hear This is the first sound
+ * Click Play sound, you can hear This is the first record

  Round 2

  * Without clicking save button, click Record sound again, it will prompt
you to save the sound, choose Save As to save it to 1.ogg
  * Now new record is started, say This is the second record, then click
Stop sound
- * Click Play sound again, but you still hear This is the first found, not
the expected This is the second record
+ * Click Play sound again, but you still hear This is the first record,
not the expected This is the second record

  Round 3

  * Click Record sound for the third time, after prompt save the second
record to 2.ogg
  * Record the sound This is the third record, then click Stop sound
  * Click Play sound and you will hear This is the second record, not This
is the third record

  Regression potential:
when doing several recording the buffers could be wrongly handled, check that
when previewing and saving records you get the correct content

So the play issue is fixed, but it will always play the last saved
record instead of the current record after the second time.

  Please help to reproduce.

[Bug 950160] Re: Unity blocks other programs from binding globally to Super+* or Alt+* (* = any key)

2012-07-18 Thread Clint Byrum
piotrekkr, the test case is to use Super+P with an external monitor
attached, not Super+C. Though it stands to reason that this is probably
a failed verification since that is what the bug is trying to fix.

[Bug 654249] Re: libnss-ldap create troubles in gnome session when ldap server is unreacheable

2012-06-15 Thread Clint Byrum
This does indeed look to be Invalid in libnss-ldap. Its worth taking a
look at in glibc though as perhaps there is some work to resolve this in
NSS's design, so opening a bug task against eglibc.

** Changed in: libnss-ldap (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete = Invalid

so the diff is around 2690 lines, 1771 of those being the gdbusdaemon

changes, it's not trivial but far from the 34k you listed

Agreed. Thanks for giving me some help in isolating the changes.

This is still inappropriate as an SRU. The policy is pretty clear, bugs
that can be fixed in SRU are:

* Severe regressions
* loss of user data
* Bugs which do not fit under above categories, but (1) have an obviously safe
patch and (2) affect an application rather than critical infrastructure
packages (like X.org or the kernel)
* New hardware
* New commercial software
* FTBFS

Policy allows micro releases if *all* of the changes match this
criteria. While the changes you filtered out are not relevant, none of
them meet this policy.

So, I can't really ignore all of those things that you filtered out.

I know that some other micro-releases that skirt this policy have been
accepted, but they matched the third criteria above. glib is critical
infrastructure, so I have to keep that in mind.

The reason for the policy isn't to be annoying. Its to preserve the SRU
team's time and make sure we are reviewing *EVERY* change that goes into
the stable release.

An appropriate SRU would just add the patch:

gnetworkmonitor_dont_leak_networks.patch.

Rejecting upload, please re-upload as a patch, not a new upstream
release.

[Bug 998521] Re: whoopsie process is leaking memory

2012-05-30 Thread Clint Byrum
This is a huge diff, not just a few minor changes IMO. Its sort of
shocking that glib adds so much in a a few patch releases. I know some
of these things are for non-Linux platforms, but its really quite hard
to separate them out.

If this is just a one line fix, why aren't we just cherry picking the
one line fix for this bug? Thats typically how we control regression
potential. I'm digging through the diff (34,000 lines!) but at this
point I can't really justify the time to review it all.

Can somebody update the test case to include a comprehensive test plan
so we can get enough test coverage, or re-upload with just the fix for
this bug?

[Bug 795475] Re: [iOS5 devices do not work] Unhandled lockdown error (-4)

2012-01-16 Thread Clint Byrum
Marshall, you'll be completely unsupported on Maverick in just 3 months.
Now is the time to upgrade. Natty will give you 6 more months of Gnome 2
with the Classic mode that was shipped in Natty. After that, you'll
only be able to choose Gnome 3 or Unity anyway.

We'd love to fix every bug in Maverick, but at this point, the focus
needs to be on the High priority bugs in other supported releases. Since
there is an upgrade path available, this one is unlikely to get much
attention. Of course, any Ubuntu user can submit a patch, and we'll
gladly sponsor it.

[Bug 829351] Re: Misspelled words are highlighted in yellow instead of red

2011-12-12 Thread Clint Byrum
Mathieu, the update to 3.2.2 looks good. Tough to filter out all the
autogenerated changes, but once thats done, the patches seem
straightforward and relevant. I do think that you need to fix the
version number. 3.2.2-0ubuntu1~oneiric is a bit unorthodox for SRU's,
and we generally suggest using a different scheme:

3.2.2-0ubuntu0.1

Since 3.2.2-0ubuntu2 is already in precise, this will serve fine for any
future updates for oneiric (the can increment to 3.2.2-0ubuntu0.2 ..
etc), and won't break with the usual SRU versioning scheme.

I'll go ahead and reject the upload, please just fix that one issue and
re-upload, and I'll accept it as soon as I see it.

Hi Ben, if you feel this has regressed, please open a new bug and

And the lack of a regression potential attached to this bug. I'd like to see
some comments on what the danger is here, as to me, this seems like a clear
change in the way it works, and might cause regressions for applications which
don't expect them to be in this order.

Leaving it in the queue for now, but can somebody please add a full SRU
justification to the bug description?

Hi Vad. With Maverick down to just about 5 months of supported life
left, and two releases since it, we are only focusing on really high
priority fixes in Maverick. I'd recommend an update to 11.04 or 11.10,
since those have full support.

[Bug 744929] Re: After auto-login, prompted to unlock keyring multiple times

Adam, funny you should ask, but the fix has just now been released to
natty-updates.

We wait 7 days after the fix is accepted into -proposed before moving to
-updates, to catch obvious major regressions. So, at least 7 days in
-proposed, + verification-done == release.

[Bug 744929] Re: After auto-login, prompted to unlock keyring multiple times

2011-08-11 Thread Clint Byrum
Hello Felix, or anyone else affected,

Accepted gnome-keyring into natty-proposed, the package will build now
and be available in a few hours. Please test and give feedback here. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Thank you in advance!

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gnome-keyring
+
+ TEST CASE:
+
+ Start with a clean session and:
+ 1. Mark it as autologin in gdmsetup
+ 2. Add a WPA wireless network
+ 3. Configure a jabber account in Empathy
+ 4. Add empathy to the startup applications list
+ 5. Log out, log back in
+ 6. Verify keyring unlock question is asked twice
+ 7. Install updated gnome-keyring from proposed
+ 8. Repeat steps 5
+ 9. Verify keyring unlock question is only asked once.

I have auto-login set up on my laptop. When the desktop loads, it
prompts me to unlock the keychain. I enter my password, and another
prompt appears, identical to the first. In total, 4 prompts appear each
time I turn on my laptop.

The key thing is this: I only have to enter my password once. If I
enter my correctly password on the first prompt, the keychain is
unlocked and I can press Cancel (or hit escape) on all further prompts
and the laptop works as expected. If I do not enter my password on the
first prompt and hit Cancel on all 4 prompts, then the keychain is not
unlocked and eventually I get prompted again.

So it seems like multiple requests are being made to gnome-keyring when
the keyring is locked, and gnome-keyring puts up a prompt for each of
these requests, rather than waiting to see what happened after the first
  prompt was dealt with.

This is seemingly related to the experience of some of the commenters on
bug #637702, but it was suggested in the comments on that bug that new
bugs should be filed with specific details. I would be happy to provide
further information and/or help debug this.

[Bug 744929] Re: After auto-login, prompted to unlock keyring multiple times

2011-08-08 Thread Clint Byrum
Upon review, the patch is fairly straightforward, and I think acceptable
for SRU. I would like to see a proper SRU report added to the
description before I accept this into natty-proposed. Please add one,
per the process on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates

Specifically a simple isolated test case would be useful so that this
can actually be verified.
