Confirming that this is still happening in later releases. I just
marked these as duplicates, but we can unmark them if the same
underlying issue isn't at play here (as suggested in the above comment).

Folks that are able to run `kdb_mode`: Please let the rest of us know
what package it's from. It's not available on my system by default, and
I can't seem to find the package that it ships with.

Also, what does this command do? I can't find a man page anywhere.
Thanks!

In my case, it actually opens one workspace down, not right. I've got a
3x3 grid, and if I open it in workspace 6, it actually opens in

2013-07-22 Thread Colan Schwartz
Added the workaround from http://askubuntu.com/questions/310576
/rhythmbox-wont-play-radio-stations-from-13-04 to the description.

** Description changed:

The following stream, which I have saved in Radio:

  http://radioclasica.rtve.stream.flumotion.com/rtve/radioclasica.mp3.m3u

used to play perfectly (heard it daily) with the previous version of
rhythmbox, but after upgrading to Ubuntu 13.04 which brought a new
version does not play any more. Some other streams still play perfectly,
  for instance:

  http://www.catmusica.cat/directes/catmusica_wm.m3u

After clicking the radio nothing happens, it doesn't play the stream or
  produces any other message whatsoever
+
+ WORKAROUND: Run the command sudo killall gvfsd-http after playing a
+ station.

[Bug 951977] [NEW] Music library and radio station data should be stored separately

2012-03-10 Thread Colan Schwartz
Public bug reported:

Currently, the file /.local/share/rhythmbox/rhythmdb.xml stores
information for both the music library and any user-added radio
stations. These should be separated into two (2) separate files for the
following reasons:

1) Users may wish to drop all of their music data and rescan their libraries.
As there is no means by which to do this from the UI (unlike Banshee), users
must delete this file. However, this action forces them to delete radio
station data as well, when they probably would not wish to do so.
2) Users may wish to back up their radio station data as it is personal
configuration information. This is quite different from music library data
which can be regenerated automatically; it generally does not need to be backed
up.

The point here is that these two data sets are essentially different
types of data. As such, they should not be stored in the same file.
One is dynamically generated; the other is not.

[Bug 433651] Re: Chat window grows beyond screen bounds - no text wrap when typing in the message entry

2012-01-23 Thread Colan Schwartz
If this is too annoying, I recommend using Pidgin until this gets fixed.
I added a note about this to the description.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: empathy

  Issue still present in Oneiric.

In Karmic, Lucid Maverick, the text ~does not~ wrap when typing text
in a chat window. Instead, the window grows.

This has been noticed in both IRC and XMPP (Jabber), possibly others.
It would be nice if the text wrapped. :-)

  POSSIBLE WORKAROUNDS:

  * Resizing the contact list to a big enough size to prevent the expansion.
  * Text wrap may work if the room contact list is disabled (uncheck
Conversation Show contactlist).
+ * Use Pidgin instead

[Bug 140918] Re: Adding stuff to autostart is too difficult

2011-10-13 Thread Colan Schwartz
I'm not sure about Gnome 3, but in the Unity launcher, when you right-
click on an application, you get a binary option (checked or not) Keep
in launcher. If there were another option added to this list called
something like Autostart or Open on start-up, it would be fantastic.
Checking it would stick it in the start-up list (making it editable by
power users), and unchecking it would remove the entry (or possibly just
disable it).

Gnome 3 probably works similarly, but I haven't played with it yet.

[Bug 856110] [NEW] USB headset speaker volume unaffected by volume control

2011-09-21 Thread Colan Schwartz
Public bug reported:

With my Logitech USB headset, it should be possible to control the
speaker volume with the tuner in Sound Preferences - Output - Premium
Stereo USB Headset 350 Analog Stereo. However, this control has
absolutely no effect.

The only way I was able to control the speaker volume was by installing
gnome-alsamixer, and controlling it from there. It shouldn't be
necessary to install another package, as most folks wouldn't even think
of doing this, let alone know which package to install. This should
work out-of-the-box with the default volume control.

gnome-alsamixer, and controlling it from there. It shouldn't be
necessary to install another package, as most folks wouldn't even think
of doing this, let alone know which package to install. This should
work out-of-the-box with the default volume control.

I just tried to set the status back to Confirmed, but it's not letting

Thanks.

[Bug 806039] [NEW] Items added to Startup Applications disappear

2011-07-05 Thread Colan Schwartz
Public bug reported:

A possible earlier instance of this bug was marked fixed over at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-session/+bug/444993, but
this must be another problem as I'm now getting this in 11.04 (Natty),
and even when I wait 10 seconds before closing.

Steps to reproduce:
1) System - Preferences - Startup Applications.
2) Click Add.
3) Name = Terminal; Command = /usr/bin/gnome-terminal; Comment = Start a
terminal.
4) Click Add.
5) Click Close.
6) System - Preferences - Startup Applications..
7) The newly added Terminal startup program is missing.

@abi: Here's how I did that for Chrome, using #24. You can do this for
any browser:

1) Get a copy of your existing one (from
/usr/share/applications/chromium-browser.desktop).
2) Edit the Exec line to add the switch. I added --new-window.
3) Call the file something like chromium-browser-new-window.desktop.
4) Stick it in ~/.local/share/applications.

[Bug 757976] [NEW] Thunderbird attachment name changes cause send error

2011-04-11 Thread Colan Schwartz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus-sendto

I've got Thunderbird set up as my default MUA in Gnome. (System -
Preferences - Preferred applications.) When I right-click on a file in
Nautilus - Send To..., the attachment name shows up in an e-mail
composition window. However, the name of the attachment is messed up.

If I'm attaching a file called Personal Learning Plan - 2010-2011.pdf,
it gets renamed to Personal%20Learning%20Plan%20-%202010-2011.pdf with
some sort of URL encoding. When clicking send, this results in the
following error:

Sending of message failed.
Unable to open the temporary file
/path/to/file/Learning%20plans/Personal%20Learning%20Plan%20-%202010-2011.pdf.
Check your 'Temporary Directory' setting.

However, there's nothing wrong with this directory setting, as it works
fine without using Send To.

The workaround:
1) Right click on the attachment - Remove Attachment.
2) Click on Attach, and then select the file from the file browser.
3) The file name will now be correct, without the URL encoding.
4) The message can now be sent.

[Bug 433651] Re: Chat window grows beyond screen bounds - no text wrap when typing in the message entry

2011-04-01 Thread Colan Schwartz
I only use Empathy for XMPP/Jabber, and have the problem too. It's not
just an IRC problem. Description updated.

Also of note: Disabling the contact list doesn't work for me.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: empathy

- I'm on Karmic Alpha 6.
- When I type text in an IRC chat window, the text ~does not~ wrap, instead the
window grows.
- I haven't noticed this in any other chat protocols (yet), just IRC.
+ In Karmic, Lucid Maverick, the text ~does not~ wrap when typing text
+ in a chat window. Instead, the window grows.
+
+ This has been noticed in both IRC and XMPP (Jabber), possibly others.
It would be nice if the text wrapped. :-)

  POSSIBLE WORKAROUNDS:

- * resizing the contact list to a big enough size to prevent the expansion
- * Text wrap works as it should if the IRC room contactlist is disabled
(uncheck Conversation Show contactlist).
+ * Resizing the contact list to a big enough size to prevent the expansion.
+ * Text wrap may work if the room contact list is disabled (uncheck
Conversation Show contactlist).

2010-11-29 Thread Colan Schwartz
I don't even have to reboot. As soon as I close the Personal
Information window, it resets. The change is completely ignored.

I wonder if this is related to being connected from both my desktop and
my laptop. They're both logged in as the same Jabber user, and I can't
give my laptop another alias. On my desktop it's colan, while my
laptop is defaulting to co...@ I'd like to set it to colan-
laptop, but it won't let me.

[Bug 669100] Re: Kernel errors when starting Brasero with blank CD-R/DVD-R

2010-10-31 Thread Colan Schwartz
It looks like you previously had another disc in the drive and ejected
it without unmounting it.

I would never do such a thing! ;)

Can you reproduce this after a clean reboot without first inserting a
non blank disc?

Yes, just to be sure, I rebooted, and tried this right away. Same
results. This is the same issue I was having over at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/405544, except that
it's the Maverick version. We were told over at comment #92
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/405544/comments/92)
