[Bug 533264] Re: Installing package that contains a .desktop file does not appear in the Application Menu
Hi Martin, I've downloading and installed the Beta release, and after installing the .deb file the menu item is created and located where I expected it to be. I do run updates on my machine every week (at least) so I do have current updates, I guess that it is something unique to my machine - a symptom of the many updates perhaps? -- Installing package that contains a .desktop file does not appear in the Application Menu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/533264 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-menus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 537565] [NEW] On bootup: login screen noise is heard, but only a cursor appears and a flashing underscore
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm Using updated version: 2.29.92-0ubuntu1 I have just installed Alpha 3 on my netbook, and updated all packages via update manager. When I start my netbook up, I hear the sound that appears usually when the Login Screen appears, however all I see is my mouse cursor and a flashing underscore (_) at the top left which resembles something where text is expected to be input into. When I try keys, such as Alt, or Ctrl or even stuff such as a, b, 1, 2 etc then stuff is displayed at that top left hand side. However, when I press the Enter key, I hear the Login Screen sound again, but this time the Login Screen appears so I can login to the desktop. ** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- On bootup: login screen noise is heard, but only a cursor appears and a flashing underscore https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/537565 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 533264] Re: Installing package that contains a .desktop file does not appear in the Application Menu
Hi, yes when I install my package it updates the cache, and after looking in the entry I see my game listed there with an entry that is the same to the .desktop file that I installed. After restarting my session, nothing new happens. My icon is still missing from the menu - despite being in /usr/share/applications and the cache. -- Installing package that contains a .desktop file does not appear in the Application Menu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/533264 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-menus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Cache file is named: desktop.en_GB.utf8.cache and as far as I know my local is English (United Kingdom). -- Installing package that contains a .desktop file does not appear in the Application Menu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/533264 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-menus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Nope, after deleting desktop.en_GB.utf8.cache the menu item is still not listed. I even restarted my computer after that and the menu item was still not listed. -- Installing package that contains a .desktop file does not appear in the Application Menu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/533264 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-menus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Sure, by example, do you mean the package I was trying to install? -- Installing package that contains a .desktop file does not appear in the Application Menu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/533264 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-menus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 533264] Re: Installing package that contains a .desktop file does not appear in the Application Menu
Here is the package that I was installing. Installing this package on Karmic results in a menu item being listed under the Games tab in Applications. Installing this package in Lucid (Alpha 3) results in a menu item being listed under the Games tab in Applications. Installing this package in the current version of Lucid, results in no menu item being listed under the Games tab in Applications. ** Attachment added: frog-game_0.2.0-ubuntu1_all.deb http://launchpadlibrarian.net/40532641/frog-game_0.2.0-ubuntu1_all.deb -- Installing package that contains a .desktop file does not appear in the Application Menu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/533264 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-menus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 533264] [NEW] Installing package that contains a .desktop file does not appear in the Application Menu
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-menus Ubuntu Version: Lucid (with latest updates (as far as I know)). gnome-menus version: 2.29.91-0ubuntu2. I have generated a debian package which contains a .desktop file, and when I install the package the .desktop file is stored in /usr/share/applications I am expecting a menu entry to appear in the Games category (as this is specified in the .desktop file) so that users can easily access the game and not have to run it from the command line. However, after installation of the package has completed there is no menu entry, (even though there is a .desktop file in the /usr/share/applications folder). I have tested my package in Karmic where the entry appears in the menu under the Games category. I have also tested my package under Lucid (alpha-3 that I downloaded from here: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/lucid/alpha-3/ - amd64 version) and after installing the same package, my menu entry appeared correctly. So I think the change that broke this would be somewhere between alpha-3 and what we have now. If you need any more information, I'm happy to provide it. ** Affects: gnome-menus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Installing package that contains a .desktop file does not appear in the Application Menu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/533264 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-menus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
