[Bug 519935] Re: unable to eject cd-rom after burning disk

2012-04-29 Thread David Robert Lewis
This is one of those bugs which together with all the other interface
bugs in Ubuntu, gives new uses a fright. Major papercut IMHO.

[Bug 35463] Re: Folders have wrong default program and the association can't be changed

2011-01-30 Thread David Robert Lewis
Ok, problem solved, a wee bit more complicated than the previous
solution:

1. Open Home folder

2. Right click on problem folder

3 Choose Open With

4. Choose Other Application...

5. Make sure remember this application for folder files is clicked

Anybody out there know why we can't do this in three steps, via File
Properties?

[Bug 269215] Re: There is a problem with the configuration server. (/usr/lib/libgconf2-4/gconf-sanity-check-2 exited with status 256)

2010-07-15 Thread David Robert Lewis
I think I've accidentally purged the configuration of the config server.

It can't update /var/lib/gdm/.ICEauthority because the folder and the
file doesn't exist. I only have a .ICEauthority in my home folder.

Tried all the chowns and chmods suggested here and elsewhere but this
appears to be a lack of configuration information problem.

How do I go about reconfiguring the .ICEauthority or the configuration
server on Lucid?

[Bug 538360] Re: metacity-common post-removal script returned error exit status 127

2010-03-14 Thread David Robert Lewis
I've solved the problem which comes down to interpretation of python on
a system with python 2.5 AND python 2.6 installed.

[Bug 395299] Re: gdm 2.26 has no graphical configuration tool

2010-03-09 Thread David Robert Lewis
All this security is a real hassle. Just as I was beginning to love the
new GDM, after discovering how to change the background, I foolishly
installed some tool claiming to be the answer to GDM2 configuration.
Result is I have a frozen GDM greeter, which refuses to show user
password entry box. It just freezes except for the disability panel. I
have tried reinstalling several times. I have also tried deleting the
usr/share/gdm folder. To no avail. About to tear out the remains of my
hair over this. Please, some solution for reinstalling GDM and bypassing
all the aweful Windows-like security.

[Bug 488699] Re: Nautilus fails to start with segmentation fault.[Ubuntu - 9.10]

2010-02-02 Thread David Robert Lewis
I have same problem. Nautilus unresponsive. Deleting the gvfs-metadata
didn't help either.

[Bug 485062] Re: Segmentation fault running nautilus under Karmic

2010-02-02 Thread David Robert Lewis
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 488699 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/488699

Me too. Same problem. I tried updating from https://launchpad.net
/%7Eerez-volk/+archive/nautilus which is a ppa which claims to patch the
Eel_critical bug. The Eel-crtical warning no longer appears, but I get
the three marshaller warnings.

** (nautilus:9770): WARNING **: No marshaller for signature of signal
'UploadFinished'

** (nautilus:9770): WARNING **: No marshaller for signature of signal
'DownloadFinished'

** (nautilus:9770): WARNING **: No marshaller for signature of signal
'ShareCreateError'

Nautilus is unresponsive. I've tried removing and reinstalling. Deleting
.nautilus and gfs-metadata but to no avail. Still stuck with
unresponsive nautilus as per the above.

[Bug 454234] Re: eel_preferences_get_boolean: assertion `preferences_is_initialized ()' failed

2010-02-01 Thread David Robert Lewis
I also have this problem. Nautilus not responding in karmic. Will try
adding the patched ppa to see if it helps.
