[Bug 624566] Re: Enhancement: Middle click to close tab (like Firefox)

2012-11-23 Thread Dmitry Kann
I find the reasoning not valid. This would definitely a useful feature,
not closing tabs with a middle click is a de facto standard in almost
all browsers: Firefox, Google Chrome, even Internet Explorer (!)

Having tabs disappear if a user accidentally middle clicks anwhere
inside them is confusing. is not convincing at all. How about
accidental left clicks on the close button (which is WAY more likely
since people switch tabs with left mouse button, and they NEVER use mid
clicks on tabs except for closing). After all, be careful with clicks in
general :)

Moreover, a tab with a modified file would never close without
confirmation.

I'm determined this feature is needed.

[Bug 1070786] [NEW] Gedit inhibits Compiz grid triggering

2012-10-24 Thread Dmitry Kann
Public bug reported:

It's a very strange behaviour and somewhat erratic too.

When I start Gedit, it seems to block the Compiz grid function (window
alignment when you drag them to an edge of the screen, presented with
orange overlay) for all other windows -- mostly but not always. Gedit
window itself I never managed to make trigger the grid.

As soon as I close Gedit, grid triggering is back again. Weird.

It's only appeared in Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal.

[Bug 990957] Re: Global keyboard shortcuts should not depend on current layout

2012-04-29 Thread Dmitry Kann
I seem to identify the cause of the issue. As of Precise global
shortcuts began to depend on current layout, which is wrong.

Say, I assign the global shortcut Ctrl+Alt+Shift+D to run an
application. But if I have Russian layout selected in the current
application, the system translates it into Ctrl+Alt+Shift+Cyrillic ve
and ignores it.

Global shortcuts depending on current keyboard layout in the application
is a sort of nonsense, I suppose.

[Bug 894553] Re: Writing metadata to files... never finishes

2012-04-08 Thread Dmitry Kann
Thanks Adam, I also attach the most recent log, maybe it might help. By
the way, looks like *_modified files cause this behaviour. In the log
I see a lot of timer restarted events, like this:

L 30918 2012-04-08 15:53:22 [DBG] Photo.vala:3144: pipeline being run
against [11713] /home/dk/Pictures/Photos/2011/08/02/dsc05782.jpg
(/home/dk/Pictures/Photos/2011/08/02/dsc05782_modified.jpg), timer
restarted.

Can it be caused by file system notification on file change?

[Bug 640785] Re: nautilus file preview does not respect file size limit

2011-12-09 Thread Dmitry Kann
I reopen the bug. It is actually the case Nautilus GENERATES thumbnails
disregarding of the setting. It's especially annoying when it happens
while eg. downloading the file: it re-reads it numerous times and wastes
system resources.

Please see the attached screenshot: everything is very clear.

The setting's value has been there for ages. Still the previews are
generated and regenerated on file change.

[Bug 859042] [NEW] Inplace file renaming lacks scrolling

2011-09-25 Thread Dmitry Kann
Public bug reported:

If I rename a file in-place (with the F2 key), and the name of the file
is long enough to not fit in the window, it isn't scrolled when the
cursor is beyond the window edge. So you basically don't see it and you
can't see what you're editing.

[Bug 859042] Re: Inplace file renaming lacks scrolling

2011-09-25 Thread Dmitry Kann
** Description changed:

If I rename a file in-place (with the F2 key), and the name of the file
is long enough to not fit in the window, it isn't scrolled when the
cursor is beyond the window edge. So you basically don't see it and you
  can't see what you're editing.
+
+ In the single-panel mode, it seems to happen in Compact view only, if you
scroll the list horizontally so that the file name gets cropped by the window
edge.
+ In the dual-panel mode (Extra Pane is on), it happens in both panes, in
List and Compact views.

[Bug 643298] Re: newly installed apps dont appear in applications unless unity is restarted

2011-06-24 Thread Dmitry Kann
This bug isn't fixed, or there's a regression.

I've just installed VirtualBox from Oracle's Debian repository, but if I
type 'virtual' in the search field it isn't listed. However, if I browse
to More Apps, I see it there.

Please reopen.

[Bug 625793] Re: Keyboard layout automatically changes + 100% CPU usage [updated]

2010-10-03 Thread Dmitry Kann
I confirm this one. I have Russian and English layouts, and switching is
bound to Caps Lock. Just lately this bug began to appear, gnome-
settings-daemon eats up one CPU entirely (~50% overall load), and the
Caps Lock (=layout) indicator blinks like crazy, incredibly annoying.

Killing the daemon helps but if I restart it over again, the bug reverts
in a few seconds.

Please raise the importance, it is a very eminent issue!

[Bug 615506] [NEW] Underscore must be a part of the word

2010-08-09 Thread Dmitry Kann
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

Any known to me text editor (not a text processor) would treat
underscore character '_' as a part of the word it's attached to, but
gedit does not. This causes all word-related actions to be limited to
only part of the word, e.g.:

create_if_doesnt_exist=1

where 'create_if_doesnt_exist' is essentially one word, but double-click
on 'create' selects only this part of the word. The same applies to all
other word related operations.

This is incorrect and undesirable in many cases. There must be at least
an option to make underscore one of the word chars (like \w in regexes).

NB: This is not a duplicate of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gedit/+bug/413360 !

The above entry only refers to selecting words with double-click.
Mine is more general: the problem applies to all operations supposed to affect
whole words:
  - Double-click selection
  - Next/Prev Word (Ctrl+Left/Right)
  - Find and Replace with Match entire word only turned on
  - Title Case command from Change Case plugin
  - Spell-checking

One of the most often recommended solutions is Click_Config plugin at
http://code.google.com/p/gedit-click-config/

However I think it's a wrong way of resolving this issue. The problem
isn't about clicks, it's about determining what is a part of the word,
and what isn't. Fixing clicks does not root the cause.

That wouldn't help replacing whole words, for example, nor would it act
as expected in other cases, eg. when a plugin scans for identifiers in
the text.
