[Bug 831308] Re: Evolution crash when copy/move contact between address books
It is possible there was already a copy in the destination folder - impossible to know now. Trying again with Firefox open crashed Evolution (closed it) without triggering an Ubuntu error message. The source entry will be deleted having confirmed there is a destination copy. Email me if I can be of further help. I have work to do building a new address book for a new topic. [Bug 831308] Re: Evolution crash when copy/move contact between address books
Has just happened to me on 12.04LTS (encrypted home folder) after an extended period of non-use. Bug #822479 refers? Triggered by trying to move a contact from one address book to another (coincidentally prehaps, to the last address book on the alphabetically sorted list) Reproduced giving a message Ubuntu 12.04LTS has encountered an error - duly reported - twice within the past half hour or so before this report. The error killed Evolution but not the OS. Evolution was reloaded for the second try (from the top panel icon) so: If there is a memory leak it is leaking from the OS (ie when Ubuntu killed the running instance of Evolution it didn't get the memory back) On the other hand it could be Evolution not managing to move the address book entry for some other reason. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/831308 Title: Evolution crash when copy/move contact between address books To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/831308/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 532842] Re: gnome-screenshot crashed with signal 5 in _XError()
OK - did a bit of an experiment. Taking care to keep all windows within the screen boundary and a smaller target window - Next try - crashed again. Then thought - I hadn't actually clicked in the target window to make it current. Did so, then inadvertently did a full screen screen shot - which worked. Then tried again, set the targeet window as current, screen shot just the current window, it worked. So does the problem occur if there is not a current window defined? [Bug 532842] Re: gnome-screenshot crashed with signal 5 in _XError()
Screen shot target was current window. First try at a screen shot was unsatisfactory due transparency issues not visible on the original. The unwelcome shadows were from the screen shot dialogue which had overlapped the original window. Second try involved moving the target to the extreme bottom left, renaming the first try, then trying again with the screen shot dialogue fairly high up on the right hand side - then bingo - the crash. Environment was Dell Dimension 4700 with only 512k of RAM, live CD to test Ubuntu, not install it. I had three text documents (852 bytes, 14.7Kb and 35.4Kb) already on the desktop, and the first screen shot was 96.4k - as would the second have been. For what it's worth (and so as not to lose it, because I may have limited storage here) all this current desktop content is attached. The .tgz is another 100k on the desktop so it looks as though the problem is not one of available storage. ** Attachment added: "Desktop contents including (renamed) target window" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/45210484/Ubuntu-10.4%20on%20Ld.tar.gz -- gnome-screenshot crashed with signal 5 in _XError() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/532842 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-utils in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 469116] Re: Error in Sudoku time keeping.
Why do you open a bug if you know it's a duplicate? Last time I had a similar error message I did not have the presence of mind to keep the 'elapsed time' message on screen. I just cleared the dialogue and went to Help - report a bug. I realised later that the collected information may have been deficient in something useful, like the source of the cleared error message. This time I ran ubuntu-bug (help is not available with the dialogue box open) while the error box was still live. Ubuntu-bug did not pick up the duplicate, and I did not want to lose any of the evidence - so I went along with it and opened the new bug. But I tried to do it helpfully If the evidence I have managed to collect is no more useful than that already available, then this bug can be closed as a duplicate with nothing to add. -- Error in Sudoku time keeping. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/469116 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-games in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

A newly downloaded image (Linux ubuntu 2.6.28-11-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 01:57:59 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux) has loaded the live image today without issue. The original problem was almost certainly a CD read issue, and the only useful input is the observation that the read checks failed, allowing a non-functional system to be loaded. [Bug 366344] Re: gnome-panel crashed with signal 7 in panel_shell_register()
I strongly suspect the CD reader. I have tried again tonight on the same hardware with CD No 1 used previously. Warm reboot from shutting down Windows came up alright on the live CD with both panels and all expected panel contents. A shutdown and cold boot also loaded OK. I ran a launchpad hardware test which should appear somewhere with my email account attached. There were two defects: - one - the default English keyboard is the US keyboard. I am in the UK. (A colleague who installed from the live CD ended up with a US keyboard and had to be shown how to correct it.) - the second - no sound. I don't know whether this is a characteristic of this Dell model. The welcoming chime was loud and clear when I returned the machine to Windows and my wife. I would recommend putting this bug report in suspense unless/until either: - someone else has a similar experience or - a bug is found in the read checking logic of the live boot in either case, with my wife's agreement I will do my best to make the hardware really flakey (ie let it cool right down) and see if there is a detectable difference between this original version and any update. CD fault confirmed - two CDs written on the same drive using media from the same close source both demonstrated unreliability - one consistently worse than the other. The read process is marginal. The same two media performed with consistent load times and no errors on other hardware. Me too. The various problems with Samba access have set back my credibility as well as the idea of client Linux systems. The only good news is that I froze everybody else on Gutsy, and have stopped any new installations. So people can still see how good it can be. And the fact that something can go wrong so permanently leaves end users worried that they cannot rely on Open Source brands. Apologies if I am a) stupid, b) ill- or un-informed c) an extremely un- typical user: It sounds OK to me provided the availability of an anonymous login doesn't stop me logging in with credentials if that is what I want to do. In school, we have some very unsophisticated users who just need it to work. If they are pupils, an anonymous login is possibly all they require to get to the resources that have been put 'on a plate' for them by a member of staff. We also have some very unsophisticated members of staff who just need it to work, but who need write access to the same share. So their credentials must be used. And, sadly, it does have to be the same share. We tried giving staff a back door - but then when they telling students where they had put the resources, they only knew the back door way to them.. We have a sophisticated network, with separate authentication domains for different academic departments. This has the advantage of resilience, with the ability for a department to run in the vacations when other parts of the campus may be without power if major work is being done. There is no one 'server room' the whole campus is dependent on. But in normal circumstances staff and pupils may need access to their shares on domains other than the one their client is joined to. At present, if the credentials used by a client to log in to the 'home' domain match those required for the foreign domain (user name and password) the connection just works. If the credentials do not match, a dialogue asks for new credentials to be used for the foreign domain. Whilst a pupil does not need any privileges to read-only the public material on a foreign domain, a member of staff will if the intention is to update, edit or add to the material. So far, we can get away without anonymous login, because pupils can log in with the foreign credentials if we make it necessary. But the problem is visitors - either substitute teachers or visiting pupils from consortium schools, or visitors to out-of-hours events (when there are no technicians on site) who bring their own laptops. So ideally, we need anonymous access for users who do not have any credentials, and who may be working on a client computer that is not a member of one of our domains. The current Desktop-Places dialogue "Connect to Server..." is a bit clunky, but would be OK if the mounts could be made persistent. If the mount has to be redone each time the client reboots, my unsophisticated staff will need a facility similar to that in Windows, which will remount a share in the same way it did last time, if they are to enjoy the delights of Ubuntu. Sorry if all this is stating the obvious, but I would rather look silly now, than find out I should have said so earlier! [Bug 103466] Re: sudoku sometimes fails to show scores when game finished
It is now much improved, and the work-around of delete-undo seems to release it every time. But the elusive little bug is still there appearing very occasionally! The screen shot shows how I finished when I caught it this time. All the moves were logical, filling all cells except those with notes, up to the point where I had to make a choice. Tracker 1 was first tried with the 4 and 9 interchanged, resulting in an unfillable cell, so eliminated. This resulted in the 9 and 4, then tracker2. This is the first try at tracker 2 starting with the 6 on the same row as the blue 9. At one stage somewhere in the whole process, I miss-clicked a duplicated value into a cell when I was trying to click to open a note - getting the red font numbers. I used the click-on clear icon to remove it. On a couple of occasions I mis-clicked trying to make a note, and got the 9 digit icons. I cleared these by clicking 'elsewhere'. Sometimes elsewhere didn't work (not on the grid or not an editable cell) and I had to click a different elsewhere. Thanks for the great improvements since last month. Hoping this helps you find the elusive and hopefully last little bug**r! [Bug 216104] Re: Hardy - Nautilus shortcut to Samba Share reports wrong password, double icons
re https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/216104/comments/8 I will note that no Ubuntu folks have made a peep about this report. Could we have some feedback on this one, please? There is a lot on bug 209520 (about problems when security=user) that looks very similar. I posted there two comments on the similarity between security=user and my own case with security=share but the client username does not match the server samba account name. Rather than double post, you can find them at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/209520/comments/77 and https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/209520/comments/105 and #106 chides me (again) for posting on the wrong bug thread - sorry, but I am really worried that if there is a link between these two sets of symptoms (ie a common source) it will be harder to nail the bug if the available evidence is too dispersed. In my trawling (can't remember duplicate/related bug numbers I'm afraid) I've seen several other reports that in the mixed Linux/Windows environment the usability of Hardy is much degraded from Gutsy, and that Hardy is for these users at least, a big disappointment. [Bug 209520] Re: SMB error: Unable to mount location when server configured with security=share
Sebastien - did my post https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/209520/comments/77 not help? I too believe the title is misleading, but I may have found the reason why it seems like a 'security=share' issue. With security=user the intricacies of the problem become apparent when your user name on the client is different from the samba account name on the server. With security=share this is always the case. But this is clearly a complex issue, and I might be making more out of my bit of evidence than it warrants. I wonder how many other users see the problem when client user name and samba account name are different? [Bug 209520] Re: SMB error: Unable to mount location when server configured with security=share
I have a similar effect, but when browsing my Hardy identity is different from my Samba account identity. As a result I do not expect to see secure content or non-browsable shares. We do not map samba passwords to nix passwords because some of our pupils are quite adventurous - so in that respect we may not be typical of users in general. And since my setup is all 'security=user' I probably shouldn't even be posting here. [Bug 209520] Re: SMB error: Unable to mount location when server configured with security=share
Sebastien - A recent update to Hardy seems to have eliminated one problem - that of only being able to see into a W2003 share by declaring a folder in it. In that respect Hardy now behaves as Gutsy did, and I can see the top level directories. Possibly following the same release, I can now browse the 'Windows' network as I would expect. It's not a feature I use often (6 domain/workgroups, 400+ hosts) so I cannot be certain of the pre-mod state. I have mixed W2003/old Mandrake/current Debian servers, 1000 users with 3 levels of security. The Windows severs are whatever they are, the Linux servers all configured 'security = user' and mostly PDCs. So not really relevant to this thread? though several symptoms seem to be shared, For obvious reasons there is a limited amount of testing I can do, but if I have anything of value (to this or any other thread/bug) just ask. I also have a much smaller scale but similar set up at home which I used to use to pilot development work. This home network is still pretty important to my family but I can and do play with it from time to time. Time is my problem, but if there's any way I can help you can always ask - I will say yes if I can. But bear in mind, please, that I'm a user rather than a builder. I have a half term break next week - when I will not be on the big network. Steve - Thanks for the clarification. a) Do I need to repost in the 207072 thread or will the information already have got there? b) If I should repost, Is mine a different bug or is it a consequence of the same bug? [Bug 209520] Re: SMB error: Unable to mount location
Some detail hoping it will help: NB - the reports above resonate with my experience, but I thing the Subject line is misleading. I am filing my report here because I believe it is easier to spot a different bug posted as the same, than to find the same bug posted as different. Be kind to me - I mean well ;) All my samba servers have (amongst others) a public share (Samba logs me on as nobody, nogroup if credentials are not supplied) and a user share which (naturally) needs credentials. I too get the 'not mounted' message but this is a timing problem - after getting the message I invariably find the share is now mounted, whether the public share or my user share. User shares give no problem as far as I can see. My credentials are collected and it all works. Public shares give a problem if my credentials are needed. For instance, in the public share is a staff_only folder. Even when I try to connect to public giving my user name, I end up as nobody, nogroup and so, of course, I cannot get into the staff_only folder. Hardy does not ask me for credentials. If I try to connect giving the staff_only folder as well as my user share name, Hardy does ask for my credentials. However, Hardy seems not to use them, and I still end up as nobody, nogroup and still cannot get into the folder. It seems as though Hardy looks to see if credentials are required, and if not, will not present them. The change I would hope to see is a reversion to Feisty-Gutsy behaviour which I never noticed because it just worked, but I think credentials were presented to samba if they were required OR IF THEY WERE OFFERED. If I give no UserName when connecting, I expect to be nobody, nogroup If I give a user name I expect my credentials to be verified with samba (currently they are not) and then to be username, primarygroup, even when connecting to a public share. My Sambas range from an old Mandrake to the latest Debian. Let me know if you need any config files etc. Chris -- SMB error: Unable to mount location https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/209520 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 103466] Re: sudoku sometimes fails to show scores when game finished
Another example. It is difficult to know what causes it, but I suspect either the tracker, or reaching a dead end on a track. This time I did not use the notes feature. In the finished game, neither clear (from the micro-menu) nor delete (from the keyboard) released the game when Edit-Undone. But closed and then reselected from stored games, Delete-Undo released it immediately. Unless you need more of the same, I will stop reporting these, and wait until I have used a tracker but got the right choice first time, toi see whether it is the dead end that messes things up... Unless you can think of a more helpful strategy? ** Attachment added: "Failed to complete again" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/14173442/Screenshot-Sudoku-1.png -- sudoku sometimes fails to show scores when game finished https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/103466 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 103466] Re: sudoku sometimes fails to show scores when game finished
Another game using notes, one tracker with a dead end track, then the other track completes. Again, completion was not detected. Deleting then undoing did not resolve the problem. Closing it and then reloading it put it into a state where deleting then undoing the delete resolved it. FWIW I attach a screen shot of the completed puzzle. The two tracks were testing the position of the digit 9 in the centre block. the alternates were dead centre or bottom left, tested in that order. Hope it helps. [Bug 103466] Re: sudoku sometimes fails to show scores when game finished
Work around - My Heron game above ended up as a saved game. I have released myself from it by deleting one of the answers and then using Undo. During the original session I tried deleting and re-entering answers to unlock it but without success. I also tried this on the second session without effect. Something about the Undo was more useful than re- entering. [Bug 103466] Re: sudoku sometimes fails to show scores when game finished
Hardy Heron: This version is much better, but can still fail to recognise a finished game. Game history: On my way to finishing this one I had one dead end track with 'show unfillable cells' enabled so I got an unfillable cell indication. I also mis-keyed on a couple of cells, putting an answer in (subsequently deleted) instead of a reminder note. Most answers were typed in but some were selected (when selecting the cell to be filled gave me the small keypad icon). The finally complete game was totally dead pan (no celebration flashing).
