[Bug 1825447] [NEW] 19.04 packaging is from master and not the ubuntu branch

2019-04-18 Thread Ed Bruck
Public bug reported:

It appears the code used in the 19.04 packaging of the appindicator is
from master and not the tagged ubuntu-19.04 commit from the ubuntu
branch. The master branch is not delivering scroll events, which stops
my application (radiotray-ng) from being able to adjust its volume
levels.

I've swapped out the code under /usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions
/ubuntu-appindicat...@ubuntu.com/ with the ubuntu branch and scrolling
on an indicator icon works again.

I've filed an issue on github as well.

Same here.

I simply stopped using nautilus file copy for *anything* that is more
than 5 files and 10 MB.

Just because it is always always always much slower than anything I do
on the command line.

I gave up on that ... took "proposed" repo out. I have a couple of
deadlines to meet and don't have time to troubleshoot a bleeding edge
repository. ;-)

[Bug 1587968] Re: evince insentitive to typing in search, page, zoom, ect fields

2016-06-06 Thread M. Edward (Ed) Borasky
Verified:

1. I can type in the Search field in Evince with my laptop, which does not have
"propose" enabled.
2. Evince installed version is evince 3.18.2-1ubuntu4 on said laptop,

Attaching "showpkg" for the record - will do the same for the
workstation with "proposed" when I get back home.

I have two systems, a workstation with "proposed" and a laptop with
straight Xenial. Both have the same version of Evince. So it's probably
an underlying desktop library that recently showed up in "proposed".

I think the bug is in one of the underlying libraries, not Evince itself
- when I enabled "Proposed" it updated a few GNOME libraries but I don't
recall a change in Evince itself.

I just noticed this. 16.04, GNOME desktop. I can't remember when the
last time I did a successful search in Evince was but it's something I
do regularly. Maybe two or three days at most since it last worked.

I'm attaching an apt-cache show if it'll help.

[Bug 1478648] [NEW] missing options in seahorse-tool

2015-07-27 Thread Ed Bunker
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

Release: Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS
Package version: 3.8.0-0ubuntu2

When you click on an encrypted file to open it, the dialog window asking
for the passphrase to unlock the secret key does not offer the options
to forget the password, like in previous versions.

On Precise, for instance, you were given the options to forget it after
X minutes, or to forget it if idle for X minutes.

On Trusty, the only selectable option is automatically unlock this keyring
whenever i'm logged in, which is crazy.
The result is that if you unlock the secret key, it stays unlocked until you
log out, which is a bit less crazy but not good.

A workaround to avoid this sillyness is to click on the cancel button and then
enter the passphrase on the second dialog window that opens right after. This
way the secret key works only once for the encrypted file you opened.
I think this is just silly, dangerous and a regression from previous versions.

[Bug 1478648] Re: missing options in seahorse-tool

2015-07-27 Thread Ed Bunker
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1478663 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1478663

** Description changed:

- Release: Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS
- Package version: 3.8.0-0ubuntu2
-
- When you click on an encrypted file to open it, the dialog window asking
- for the passphrase to unlock the secret key does not offer the options
- to forget the password, like in previous versions.
-
- On Precise, for instance, you were given the options to forget it after
- X minutes, or to forget it if idle for X minutes.
-
- On Trusty, the only selectable option is automatically unlock this keyring
whenever i'm logged in, which is crazy.
- The result is that if you unlock the secret key, it stays unlocked until you
log out, which is a bit less crazy but not good.
-
- A workaround to avoid this sillyness is to click on the cancel button and
then enter the passphrase on the second dialog window that opens right after.
This way the secret key works only once for the encrypted file you opened.
- I think this is just silly, dangerous and a regression from previous versions.
+ The package containing seahorse-tool is seahorse-nautilus not seahorse.
+ I've filed another bug. Sorry, my bad.

** Description changed:

Will do, but it will have to wait until I get home from work. Gedit
preferences menu works fine on my machine at work so it must be
something weird I did at home.

[Bug 1391012] [NEW] The preferences menu in gedit is missing.

2014-11-09 Thread Ed Harcourt
Public bug reported:

The preferences menu in gedit is missing. It doesn't matter if global
menus are on or off.

I've searched for a fix but have not found one. If global menus are off
the Edit menu has no preferences tab. If global menus are on then the
activity has no gedit menus at all.

[Bug 968268] Re: Cannot permanently add wallpaper to 'Pictures Folder'

2013-09-23 Thread Ed Bakker
I've got exactly the same thing; adding picture(s) in the drop down 'Pictures
folder' item, only lasts as long as you have that screen open. If you close the
window / backgrounds option and you right click on your desktop to reopen it;
wallpapers appear ok.
When clicking on 'wallpapers' to get again the 'picture folder' option,
everything is gone.

At my version of Precise it does point to the /home/username folder
though.. which is not correct either….

[Bug 1002537] Re: Shotwell Send To Email doesn't attach multiple photos

2012-09-15 Thread Ed Comer
This is a definately shotwell bug. I have verified with the test script
below. Simply selecting multiple photos will only result in one photo
being mailed. To get around the bug, the only known workaround is to
transform them at the SendTo dialog by scaling them. If they are already
too small to scale, the bug will remain, thus scaling will have to occur
to workaround the bug.

--TEST-SCRIPT---
#!/bin/sh
# replace nautilus-sendto with the test script. nautilus-sendto is
# found in your executable path. Remember to save the original
# nautilus-sendto for restoration after tests.

I also get this bug on a newly installed 12.4 with Seagate ST2000DM001

[Bug 790687] [NEW] nautilus desktop: Unity menu and alt key navigation

Under Unity if you press the alt key the global menu becomes focused and
you can select menu items via alt+f (File), alt+e (Edit) and so on. This
works with all applications, except when the desktop is focused. For
consistency reasons and keyboard navigation nautilus desktop too needs
an alt-key navigateable menu.

Why do we need to wait for upstream? Sooner or later we need to make
some changes anyway (https://lists.launchpad.net/ayatana/msg04636.html)

This isn't really a question of looks or opinion. It's an interface
bug, a highly annoying one if I may add especially now that I'm
constantly switching between Unity and other sessions. Maybe there is a
nicer looking solution though.

[Bug 773816] [NEW] Crummy playing card images!

play card games quite often, and the card images you have designed for

[Bug 124315] Re: Remember+restore window position of applications with WM_WINDOW_ROLE or window title set

2011-04-27 Thread Ed Lin
I've added Compiz to this bug as per the discussion here:
https://lists.launchpad.net/ayatana/msg05613.html

I know about the window placement plugin in CCSM but there are two problems:
It requires manual setup and can only do static coordinates and rules
whereas it should be enabled by default, transparent and dynamically
remember positions.
Secondly, it's broken. Opening another window of the same
class/role/whatever shouldn't put it exactly on top of the other one
but cascaded so both titlebars are visible. See KDE, Windows and OS X
for a correct implementation.

[...]

My recommendation for the near future: Extend the window placement
plugin so it supports cascading (or smart placement, see below) of
same windows and automatically remembers coordinates. Once it's deemed
stable and functionally complete enable it by default.

Please see the mailing list for further problems and ideas surrounding
the issue.

[Bug 771470] [NEW] open/save dialog doesn't remember last folder across sessions

2011-04-26 Thread Ed Lin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

Open a new gedit instance, the open and save dialogs both default to the
home folder. Now open or save a document in another folder, for example
~/Documents. From then on all further invocations of a dialog within
this window will default to ~/Documents.

Now open a new gedit window or close and reopen gedit or even just drag
a new tab out of window #1 to create a new window. The dialogs in window
#2 again default to the home folder instead of remembering the folder
you last used to open or save a document.

I very much doubt that is intended and by design but even if it was
especially in case of the drag tab out of window it really makes no
sense.

I don't think upstream is very interested in this kind of usability bug.
There are a few related bugs e.g.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gedit/+bug/86989 unresolved
for years. Gedit 2.9 in GNOME 3 is still affected.

In case you came here looking for a solution, some kind of workaround:
alt+1 switches to Documents, alt+D to documents, alt+f focuses the search bar...
seems to work in all gtk file dialogs.

[Bug 745676] [NEW] Pseudo-terminals are not closed properly

2011-03-30 Thread Ed Schouten
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

It seems that after a long day of working, while always keeping at least
one terminal open, I end up getting TTYs with names like /dev/pts/84. It
seems gnome-terminal leaves some dangling file descriptors. This is
probably due to the fact that gnome-terminal leaves a file descriptor to
the TTY device itself; something it should not do at all. This causes
gnome-terminal to miss the EOF on the ptmx, which is probably the reason
why it isn't garbage collected.

This can easily be reproduced on 10.10, by opening and closing a lot of
windows, while leaving at least one window open to prevent gnome-
terminal from shutting down completely. This bug doesn't seem present on
10.04.

I've attached the output of lsof.

set up a dual boot right? I am not to savy on dual boot set ups. I
hosed my last attempt.

Status in “rhythmbox” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

Bug description:
Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I have a 4th generation iPod Touch. When I tried to sync it to my
installation of Ubuntu 10.1 it mounts as camera.

I am using
Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - the Lucid Lynx - released in April 2010

What works
It will prompt me to run F-Spot.
It wil let me run the mobile file browser sometimes.

What doesn't work
I cannot move photos from my computer to the ipod.
I cannot move music from my computer to the ipod
Rhythm box does not see the iPod. I even installed Banshee just to make sure I
hadn't bunged up my installation of Rhythm box.

[Bug 571948] [NEW] evince frozen on 'loading...'

2010-04-29 Thread Ed Abraham
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

Evince became stuck showing 'loading ...' when opening an eps file. Now
when I try and open any pdf or eps file it becomes stuck showing
'loading ...'. It is like it has remembered a setting that is causing it
problems. I have restarted it, and have removed the ~/.gnome2/evince
folder, but the problem persists so at the moment I am unable to use
evince. Resizing the window, or hitting reload doesn't help. It occurs
if I run evince by double clicking on a file, running it from the
command line, or opening pdf email attachments.

[Bug 486780] Re: Unable to mount blank optical disk

2009-11-25 Thread Ed Adasiewicz
I have a similar problem writing to dvd-rw on a usb drive via a shell
script. I use something like the following to backup my system at
night:

#!/bin/bash
TODAY=$(/bin/date +%Y.%m.%d)
# create backup.$TODAY.tgz
/usr/bin/growisofs -use-the-force-luke -dvd-compat -Z /dev/dvdrw1\
  -D -r -T -l -graft-points -iso-level 4 -V $TODAY.Backup\
  backup.$TODAY.tgz

If I watch this run, after I see /dev/dvdrw1: flushing cache and
before /dev/dvdrw1: writing lead-out the error box will be displayed.
This did not happen in 9.04.

[Bug 436344] [NEW] printer driver does not print -Kodac 5100 AiO

2009-09-24 Thread ed
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor

Shows printer online and detects when printer is off. Seems to trigger
some lights on printer but does not print test page even though driver
eventually shows job has printed. I noticed only 4x6 paper is shown in
paper sizes. I tried loading 4x6 paper, but no better. I tried deleting
printer driver and reinstalling, but no help. Printer works fine with
this computer and another using Microsoft Windows. Now this driver is
locked and will not even close. I will reboot. New to Linux. I like
other features.

[Bug 15442] Re: panels change their position between logins

So in gconf-editor go to apps-panel -general and find the
corresponding entry for you in my case toplevel_id_list and reorder the
panels in the list in the order you want them to appear in this case the
first is at the edge of the screen.

Thank Odin, and thank you. After switching the order of ids in that
list, it worked! For the first time in literally years of using Gnome
in Ubuntu, I was able to have two panels at the bottom of the screen in
the order I specified.
