Not willingly, Sebastien. Maybe it has something to do with the software back in time (though I don't remember having to recover the system at any point in time so far). [Bug 2002521] [NEW] Incompatibility issue between g-c-c and libnm0
Public bug reported: After system update from Ubuntu 20.04 to 22.04 settings won't open (neither using the GUI gear icon nor using the terminal command gnome- control-center). The error message it returns is "gnome-control-center: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libnm.so.0: version `libnm_1_24_0' not found (required by gnome-control-center)". Have tried remove and reinstall g-c-c and libnm0 with no results. Everything is up to date but it seems that g-c-c still tries to use libnm version 1.24.0 instead of most recent (and installed on notebook) libnm 1.36.6. 1: Description:Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS Release:22.04 2: gnome-control-center: Instalados: 1:41.7-0ubuntu0.22.04.5 Candidato: 1:41.7-0ubuntu0.22.04.5 Tabla de versión: *** 1:41.7-0ubuntu0.22.04.5 500 500 http://es.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jammy-updates/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1:41.4-1ubuntu13.2 500 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jammy-security/main amd64 Packages 1:41.4-1ubuntu12 500 500 http://es.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jammy/main amd64 Packages libnm0: Instalados: 1.36.6-0ubuntu2 Candidato: 1.36.6-0ubuntu2 Tabla de versión: *** 1.36.6-0ubuntu2 500 500 http://es.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jammy-updates/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1.36.4-2ubuntu1 500 500 http://es.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jammy/main amd64 Packages 3: Settings to open. 4: Didn't open. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1937126 Title: bug found To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1937126/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1849081] [NEW] ZSH shells break Login screen
Public bug reported: There's a bug that affects gnome-keyring, and i'll describe the steps i've done to reproduce it twice, although i don't have full details as to what exactly is causing it. Issue can be summarized as follows: On Ubuntu 19.10, but not at least 18.04 (another computer i have using the older release), there's an issue that prevents the user to login to a gnome session The issue shows up when checking the session manager: ``` service gdm3 status Process: ExecStartPre: /usr/share/gdm/generate-config (code=exited,status=0/SUCCESS) Process: ExecStartPre: /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-wait-for-drm (code=exited,status=0/SUCCESS) ... gdm-password: gkr-pam: unable to local control file ``` Relevant components: * gdm3 3.34.1-1 * gnome-shell 3.34.1-1 * gnome-keyring 3.34.0-1 * zsh 5.77.1-ubuntu2 This does not occur on a fresh installation of Ubuntu. It only happens once some of these tools are installed: * zsh (ubuntu package https://packages.ubuntu.com/eoan/zsh , manually change shell for user) - https://askubuntu.com/questions/131823/how-to-make-zsh-the-default-shell * oh-my-zsh (brings in lots of plugins, although only git was sourced) - https://github.com/robbyrussell/oh-my-zsh/wiki/Installing-ZSH * powerlevel10k (shell theme ) - https://github.com/romkatv/powerlevel10k The tools would appear to work fine, until you reboot the machine, and are asked to login, at which point gkr-pam complains that it can't locate control file. Unfortunately i don't have better details because eventually i broke so much my login that i decided to reinstall the system from scratch. Upon installation, i started from fresh, with no zsh, and everything worked. Once zsh was installed, it will no longer work. A fix for this was to revert to bash shell. The key change was to no include this line at the top of .bashrc ``` #exec zsh ``` So i can confirm the issue is there, but that's as far as i got after several hours of investigations. I appreciate that this bug may not be a gnome-keyring specific bug, but seems that its the one been affected anyways. https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-keyring/issues/28 https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-keyring/issues/26 https://github.com/GNOME/gnome-keyring/blob/master/pam/gkr-pam-module.c#L676 https://github.com/GNOME/gnome-keyring/blob/master/pam/gkr-pam-module.c#L847 https://github.com/GNOME/gnome-keyring/commit/443a821cba105e8f277828a67b3d019b67f1324a https://github.com/GNOME/gnome-keyring/commit/b22d058a055ec3e0f31ae16417f16b42baadb42f https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-keyring/+bug/1817128 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-keyring/+bug/1818616 ** Affects: gnome-keyring (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: eoan -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-keyring in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1849081 Title: ZSH shells break Login screen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-keyring/+bug/1849081/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1076194] Re: Copying large file into flash pen: Error while copying
IMPORTANT: This is not a real bug. I didn't take into account the limitation with FAT32 (maximum of 4GB per file). The flash pens in question were recent and not supposed to be FAT. Retested in NTFS: 5,9GB copied with no problem. Nevertheless, the ERROR MESSAGES should have been more clear (stating the limitations of the format, especially since it is a Ubuntu default format); the formatting utility itself could warn unadvised users of those limitations on the dialog box). This report was also influenced by the present difficulties of Quantal 12.10 with formatting flash pens and Disks. Gnome Utility Disks is useless in 12.10. I've had to use Windows to clean them and format for testing. 12.10 is crippled in that area right now. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1076194 Title: Copying large file into flash pen: Error while copying To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1076194/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1076194] Re: Copying large file into flash pen: Error while copying
Yes, this was a question after all; I am very embarrassed for causing this trouble; the question is double: - Why can't error messages related to FAT32 limits (4GB) during copying mention this common error? - Why is it no longer possible to rapidly format flash pens from the Unity sidebar (or from the navigation pane? right-clickformat) ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid ** Converted to question: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+question/213693 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1076194 Title: Copying large file into flash pen: Error while copying To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1076194/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1073151] Re: Error synchronizing after initial wipe: Timed out waiting for object
I've also thrown Disks away! This is exasperating. 3 different builds with Ubuntu, 2 64bit 1 32bit and every single one incapable of simply formatting any kind of flash pen (or disk!!!). I miss 12.04 so badly! Also, I had to turn to a Windows system to format erase my flash pens. Pretty embarrassing. Not only that, you also can't name the volume on the (fruitless) process! Why? Also, it seems to have become impossible to format a pen right from the Unity sidebar launcher, with a right-click. You can only Unlock from launcher/ Open / Eject; how silly is that? The navigation pane also lost this ability. Why? How come this is not more commented in forums? (Or commented at all?) Solution, proposed by a friend: change to Xubuntu. Things are working over there.
