[Bug 2046844] Re: AppArmor user namespace creation restrictions cause many applications to crash with SIGTRAP

2024-03-12 Thread Fred
A workaround is to set the environment variable MOZ_ASSUME_USER_NS=0.

You can run it as:
env MOZ_ASSUME_USER_NS=0 /home/bob/Downloads/firefox/firefox
--name=firefox-nightly %u

[Bug 1837974] Re: Toggle-maximize-vertically/horiz fully maximzes (REGRESSION)

2020-08-11 Thread Fred Drake
For the record, I'm running Xorg.

Are there any diagnostics we can run to determine if these are the same?

This is a long-standing bug. While it may seem insignificant, it does
impact daily workflow for those of us who find maximize-vertically to be
useful.

[Bug 1778011] Re: SRU: PRIME Power Saving mode draws too much power

2018-09-29 Thread Fred Vkigg
Tested on Dell Precission 5520 with Ubuntu 18.04. This suffer from a
consistently high power usage in the Intel (Power saving) mode.

Proposed Packages install fine. After reboot switching Prime profile did
not seem applied with logout+login. Reboot was required. After a further
'apt upgrade' which pull in some new updated the Prime profile switch
work with just a logout+login. I assume I got a gdm3 update which was
required.

Looking at power graphs from the 'Power Statistics' tool i am getting
much better power usage (first time under 10W). Thanks for the work.
Will add a second comment if anything crops up after more usage.

[Bug 1691357] Re: User switch not possible, login screen black

2018-05-15 Thread Fred Vkigg
I see this same behaviour on 2 machines with 18.04 when I have no swap.
With swap enable the problem goes away. Bug did not exist in 17.10 or I
believe until quite late in the 18.04 development cycle.

[Bug 1632772] Re: GNOME on Wayland does not start from LightDM

2017-04-22 Thread Fred
@johny, I don't recall having done anything to fix it.
I think it just resolved itself by some package update or something.
Logging into GNOME on Wayland from LightDM as my user works now.
But as guest it doesn't work still.

[Bug 1612416] Re: Ugly shadow under Wayland

2017-03-23 Thread Fred
I created a new account and logged into GNOME on Wayland and now GNOME
Terminal looked and behaved correctly and did not have the ugly drop
shadow issue.

After using dconf-editor to recursively reset the configuration for
/org/gnome/terminal/ this issue disappeared for me on my normal user
account too. :)

[Bug 1612416] Re: Ugly shadow under Wayland

2017-03-23 Thread Fred
I am using Intel graphics driver on a Haswell 4770K GPU.

Note however that GNOME Terminal is the only application which have the drop
shadow issue, in the screenshot you can also see GNOME Calculator which does
not suffer from this.
I also tested with other applications and its only GNOME Terminal that have
this issue.

Also, its not just the drop shadow, but also the menu position placement
that is awkward when clicking on a menu in the menubar.

[Bug 1672537] [NEW] Too many dependencies for GtkInspector

2017-03-13 Thread Fred
Public bug reported:

I want to use GtkInspector in my GTK development through GObject
Introspection in Python.

So I need to enable the GtkInspector:
$ gsettings set org.gtk.Settings.Debug enable-inspector-keybinding true

Apparently I need the 'libgtk-3-dev' package.

$ sudo apt-get install libgtk-3-dev
Reading package lists... Done

Reading state information... Done
The following additional packages will be installed:
  gir1.2-gtk-3.0 icu-devtools libatk-bridge2.0-dev libatk1.0-dev

[Bug 1632772] [NEW] GNOME on Wayland does not start from LightDM

2016-10-12 Thread Fred
Public bug reported:

When picking GNOME on Wayland as session and attempting to login from
LightDM then it fails, all you see is a black screen with a blinking
cursor.

However, manually running:
$ dbus-run-session gnome-shell --display-server --wayland
from the console/vt1 (Ctrl+Alt+F1) seems to work.
But from LightDM it does not work.

evince works for me when running GNOME on Wayland too.

But when I run under Weston then it says "Failed to connect to Mir:

Diodon seems to be explicitly for GNOME, hence does not work for Lubuntu which
is based on LXDE rather than GNOME.
There are alternative similar software such as Glipper, Klipper and Parcellite,

[Bug 1470169] [NEW] Ambiance is always used as window decorator theme

2015-06-30 Thread Fred
Public bug reported:

I think Metacity 1:3.17.2-2ubuntu2 broke things.
It seems now Ambiance is always used as window decorator theme, even though I
have configured to another theme.

I believe Metacity 1:3.17.2-2ubuntu1 worked fine.

I updated my Ubuntu and it updated Metacity and libmetacity-private2 to
libmetacity-private3.

Now things are broken, it worked before.

[Bug 1360778] [NEW] [regression] gnome-sesssion-flashback 3.8.1-1ubuntu1 is broken and non-functional

2014-08-24 Thread Fred
Public bug reported:

Before I updated my system yesterday gnome-session-flashback worked.
Then I updated to 3.8.1-1ubuntu1 yesterday, and today when I login nothing
appears.

The icons and panel doesn't appear. Sot neither gnome-panel or nautilus gets
loaded.
It seems nothing gets loaded. I still see the Ubuntu version superimposed on
the background.
Nothing loads up. The desktop is completely unusable.
Reproducible every time.

This happens both on Metacity and Compiz sessions.
This happens both on my user account and the guest account.

[Bug 1286251] Re: gnome-session depends on ubuntu-session

2014-03-03 Thread Fred
I managed to get it to upgrade cleanly without removing any packages
(only libunity-core-6.0.8 to replace with 6.0.9).

I had to selectively upgrade the packages in a certain order.
I don't remember which order it was in though.

I tried your patch and it works fine here. I used Suspend via menu and
closed the laptop lid. Both methods did not open HUD upon wake. Great
job! Thanks for the fix.

[Bug 1232299] [NEW] gnome-session-flashback with Compiz launches Unity

2013-09-27 Thread Fred
Public bug reported:

gnome-session-flashback (Flashback (No Effects)) which runs with Metacity works
fine.
gnome-session-flashback (Flashback) which runs with Compiz starts Unity instead.

It works very well with Metacity, but if you use Compiz, then you get a
conflict with Unity. That is; you get both Unity and Gnome Panel running
at the same time.

[Bug 1030022] Re: Port from legacy Xlib to to modern XCB

2013-08-07 Thread Fred
Xlib is synchronous.
XCB is asynchronous.

Asynchronous is superior to synchronous because it executes things in
parallel without waiting hence is faster, has less delay/latency and is
more responsive.

[Bug 1129509] Re: I don't know

2013-02-20 Thread Fred
Uhm, I just logged in and this error report dialog came up.
I didn't really do or expect anything.

It worked though, I didn't do anything weird.
All that happens is that I got an error report dialog when I logged in, for no
reason.

[Bug 1118729] Re: Ctrl+Z (undo) does not work

2013-02-07 Thread Fred
In Firefox, and virtually any other application created in history of
computing, if you had a text box, you could enter stuff, and Ctrl+Z
would undo it.

[Bug 1111710] [NEW] Forgets about settings

2013-01-31 Thread Fred
Public bug reported:

Alt+Click is used to move/drag windows. However this combination clashes
with many games and applications.

Hence, I remap it to the Super Key (Windows key) instead.
$ gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences mouse-button-modifier 'Super'

However, after some login/logout or restarts this setting somehow gets
forgotten. :(

[Bug 1030022] Re: Port from legacy Xlib to to modern XCB

2012-11-11 Thread Fred
Kwin (KDE)

Fredrik merged in the initial port from XLib to XCB. This is an
important step on the road towards Qt 5 support inside KWin and will
probably require still quite some work during the 4.11 cycle.
