[Bug 295990] Re: Keyboard layout reset after attaching USB keyboard
I experience this bug on Raspbian, but not Arch. I don't have an Ubuntu system, but here is an easy way to reproduce it in software, which may be helpful: $ setxkbmap us basic $ setxkbmap us dvorak $ sudo udevadm trigger $ aoeuaoeusdfasdfasdf You can see that half-way through typing the last line, the layout changes. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/295990 Title: Keyboard layout reset after attaching USB keyboard To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/evdev/+bug/295990/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 426176] Re: gnome-settings-daemon resets keyboard layout
Hello, Haven't gotten a reply clarifying the correct usage. Is anyone there? Now I have noticed that by running gconf-editor /apps/gnome_settings_daemon/plugins/keyboard it brings up a GUI wherein I can uncheck a check-box marked active. This makes gnome-settings-daemon lay off the keyboard map, so that I can go back to managing it with xmodmap. However, sometimes the setting is forgotten and I have to re-run the GUI. Is there a way to *permanently* deactivate the plugin? Without knowing the correct way of interacting with this system, I have no way of submitting a valid bug for the actual problem. [Bug 426176] [NEW] gnome-settings-daemon resets keyboard layout
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon Hello, I find that under recent versions of Ubuntu, gnome-settings-daemon frequently resets my keyboard layout, which I have successfully configured using xmodmap for the past seven years. This happens for example when (1) I unplug the keyboard, and plug it back in again; (2) I suspend and resume the computer; (3) I run the command sudo modprobe -r thinkpad_acpi sudo modprobe thinkpad_acpi I blame gnome-settings-daemon for this problem, because it doesn't occur unless gnome-settings-daemon is running. I need to run gnome-settings- daemon to prevent the text cursor from blinking in many applications that I use, which drives me crazy. I need to change the keyboard with xmodmap because I have reconfigured certain keys, and that is also how I switch between QWERTY and Dvorak when someone else wants to use my computer. Is there a way to ask gnome-settings-daemon to respect the current xmodmap settings? Or should I now be using some Gnome version of xmodmap? Or can I disable cursor blinking in Gnome applications without running the daemon? If the answer to all of these questions is no, then that is the bug which I am reporting. [Bug 426176] Re: gnome-settings-daemon resets keyboard layout
Thanks for the help, I tried gconftool -s /apps/gnome_settings_daemon/plugins/keyboard/enabled false --type bool and still get the same behaviour. Was I supposed to run a different command? Or can you point me to some documentation which has this information? There is a lot of documentation which describes how to use 'xmodmap' in X, but very little which explains that those settings are overwritten by Gnome, and none that I can find which explains how to work around the problem. If the functionality doesn't match the documentation, then what?
