[Bug 1189382] [NEW] Misleading icons for “Keyboard” and “Keyboard Layout” in Control Center
Public bug reported: Control Center has two settings panels for keyboard related settings: “Keyboard” and “Keyboard Layout”. The icons used for these panels are misleading, as they suggest exact the opposite content: - The “Keyboard Layout” icon depicts tree keys, two of which are connected by an orange line. This suggest something like “keyboard shortcuts”, where you combine two or more keys to trigger certain actions. But shortcuts are part of the “Keyboard” panel. - The “Keyboard” icon depicts a whole computer keyboard. This suggests that one can configure the keyboard as a whole, i.e. its layout. Thus, I would suggest switching the icons used for these panels. P.S.: One could also question the categories these settings belong to: Personally, I would expect the keyboard layout to define the “Hardware” aspect of the keyboard, while keyboard shortcuts are more of a “Personal” setting. P.P.S.: A related, but different bug is #883256 which suggests merging these categories altogether. [Bug 961337] [NEW] Clicking in HTML e-mails results in selecting arbitraty pieces of text
Public bug reported: I am using Evolution on an up-to-date Precise system. I noticed that when clicking in an HTML e-mail, some seemingly random piece of text will be selected/highlighted. [Bug 928513] [NEW] Brasero fails to burn DVD with error in BraseroGrowisofs
Public bug reported: When trying to burn a DVD (dual layer in this case, but I don’t know if this makes a difference), brasero fails to burn the image. Attached, you find a session log from Brasero. What seems especially striking is that brasero constructs this command line: growisofs -use-the-force-luke=notray -use-the-force-luke=4gms -dvd- compat -speed=6 -use-the-force-luke=tracksize:3575604 -use-the-force- luke=tty -Z /dev/sr0=/tmp/brasero_tmp_NX2N9V.bin This also fails when using it directly. But when I construct a minimalist version of it, it works: growisofs -dvd-compat -Z /dev/sr0=/tmp/brasero_tmp_NX2N9V.bin I don’t know if there are cases in which these extra options are necessary. But for me, they prevented growisofs from burning the disc correctly, although it obviously is able to burn it when omitting these options. [Bug 924178] [NEW] e-mail content corruption in Evolution
Public bug reported: Now for the second time since I upgraded to Precise, I experienced e-mail corruption in Evolution. In the list view, subject, sender and so on are correct, but when I open the e-mail, its content is truncated and also shows parts of the message that are normally not printed, like HTML code and message boundaries. When I open the e-mails source, I can see that also the headers are broken. I attached a screenshot of one message’s source, which is heavily corrupted. When I open the e-mail on my provider’s webmail interface, it is complete there. So it seems that not the actual e-mail content on the IMAP server is broken, but evolution’s cache or rendering or whatever. ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 Package: evolution 3.2.3-0ubuntu2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-12.20-generic 3.2.2 Uname: Linux 3.2.0-12-generic i686 ApportVersion: 1.91-0ubuntu1 Architecture: i386 Date: Tue Jan 31 09:13:52 2012 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot - Alpha i386 (20110803.1) SourcePackage: evolution UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to precise on 2012-01-22 (8 days ago) ** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 precise running-unity -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/924178 Title: e-mail content corruption in Evolution To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/924178/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 922329] Re: Evolution is missing the correct icon for encrypted e-mails
The issue seems to be that evolution uses icons like stock_lock-ok. In Precise, these are in gnome-icon-theme-full, which is not installed by default. gnome-icon-theme depends on humanity-icon-theme | gnome-icon- theme-full. I don’t know the reasoning behind this split of g-i-t, so I don’t know what the best way of solving this would be, but possible solutions could be: - evolution should depend on g-i-t-f - h-i-t should get the appropriate icons -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/922329 Title: Evolution is missing the correct icon for encrypted e-mails To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/922329/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 766530] Re: vinagre uses wrong keyboard layout
Here’s what I found out so far: When accessing vino on Ubuntu 10.04 from both vinagre on 10.04 and 11.04, I experience a problem with not all key presses being transmitted. It seems not to be actually the case that a wrong keyboard layout is applied, since the keys that are transmitted are correct. But not all key presses are transmitted, e.g. umlauts (ä,ö,ü), the euro sign etc. are not displayed on the server. So it somehow seems that only ascii (?) keycodes are received on the server, but using the correct keyboard layout. When accessing vino on Ubuntu 11.04 from vinagre on 10.04, all keys work correctly. Thus, for me it currently seems that the issue is within vino, but apparently was fixed in the version that shipps with Ubuntu 11.04. @georg.hoermann: Does this match your observations? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to vinagre in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/766530 Title: vinagre uses wrong keyboard layout -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 766530] Re: vinagre uses wrong keyboard layout
@georg.hoermann: So are you using a tightvnc client to log into a vino server on 11.04? That might be a hint that I falsely accused vinagre, and the actual issue is with vino. OTOH, as I only upgraded the client machine to 11.04, I thought that the bug was introduced in the vinagre client with 11.04. We probably need some more research here, I’ll see if I can find the time to play around a bit with various client/server combinations.

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: empathy The Ubuntu theme for empathy conversations now shows past conversations in a special theme where everything looks desaturated. This makes sense in the chat window, so one can easily distinguish previous conversations from the current one. But this theme is also used in the log viewer. [Bug 629258] Re: Battery life estimation never comes around
João, I have the same situation you describe on my Dell Mini 9. So in my opinion, there are currently two issues: * g-p-m has no estimates about the remaining battery *time*. This seems to be because of lacking ACPI information, if I understood it correctly. This could be solved by calculating these estimates in g-p-m, but this is probably not trivial. * The second issue is how the battery indicator deals with this situation. Currently, it simply shows “estimating…” forever, but never comes around with estimated values. I think if it cannot get the remaining battery *time*, it should resort to displaying the battery *charge* (percentage). This is probably much easier to implement and would give at least any usable value, instead of the useless “estimating…”. And, if I recall correctly, this was the behavior in Lucid. So if it is not possible to resolve the issue of getting the time estimates in the short term, I’d suggest to resort to the values that *are* available (as the charge percentage). -- Battery life estimation never comes around https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/629258 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Instead, there are two separate application entries for calendar and e-mail. The mail component has a button to launch the contacts component. For the notes component, this might be less crucial, because Tomboy is the primary note taking application in Ubuntu. But for the tasks component, this is quite severe. Still it might be nice to have an option to disable the animation to get more precise control. -- Gnometris controls very unresponsive when keys are held down https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/138586 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 202429] Re: Search does not find anything if files name is partly written
I agree this kind of feature is quite essential for a desktop search engine. If tracker can't do it, couldn't deskbar-applet work around it? There is locate, which has a quite capable filename search engine. Wouldn't it be possible to write a simple deskbar plugin that queries locate -i ~/'*$SEARCHTERM*' as you type? Deskbar has the advantage of taking multiple sources into account, and if tracker simply isn't designed for finding files by name, then use the tools that are. -- Search does not find anything if files name is partly written https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/202429 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is the registrant for deskbar-applet. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 244711] [NEW] Deskbar window moves every time it's opened
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: deskbar-applet Every time the deskbar window is opened (e.g., via Alt-F3 or clicking the icon), the window is a bit more to the right and to the bottom of the screen than it was the last time. I just crawled the source a bit and found that deskbar uses get_position() on the gtk.Window to the the coordinates, stores these values to gconf, and sets them with move() after re-opening the window. The PyGTK reference points out that this method will most likely fail to restore the original position due to window manager missbehaviour. Compiz, which I am using, also seems to suffer from this. (see http://www.pygtk.org/pygtk2reference/class-gtkwindow.html#method-gtkwindow--get-position ) The reference suggests using true session management, e.g. via GnomeClient. I don't know if this would be a valid option for deskbar, but the hopping window is really not ideal. ** Affects: deskbar-applet (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Deskbar window moves every time it's opened https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/244711 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to deskbar-applet in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 197763] Re: panel menu entry doesn't show correct icon
I think that the svg files shouldn't be in the 22x22 directory. Maybe that causes problems, which would explain why changing the Icon key in the desktop file to seahorse.png fixes the issue. On the other hand, I tried deleting the svg icons and copying the files from /usr/share/pixmaps/seahorse/22x22/ to /use/share/icons/hicolor/22x22/apps/, but this didn't help. So the problem might not be related to the svg files. -- panel menu entry doesn't show correct icon https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/197763 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to seahorse in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 184839] Re: evolutions displays pgp-messages as attachment.dat
I can confirm this for mails sent by Thunderbird users. After decrypting, I can save the attachment.dat locally and open it with a text editor, as Luigi described it. So it seems to be no problem of decrypting, but one of displaying. But additionally, there seems to be a problem with verifying the signature of such messages: After decrypting, Evolution shows the message only as encrypted, but not as signed (Button on the bottom of the message). But when decrypting the message directly with gpg, it says: gpg: Good signature from So the message is actually encrypted and signed, but Evolution doesn't handle the signature. -- evolutions displays pgp-messages as attachment.dat https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/184839 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 139639] Re: Add PySol to Ubuntu Gnome Games
Yes, PySol is somewhat a replacement for Aisleriot. Plus, it's iterface, since pure Python, uses TkInter, which makes it not fit very good in the GNOME desktop. But I'd agree that PySol has really some advantages in usability when compared to Aisleriot. E.g., when you finished a game, Aisleriot only gives you the options to either quit or start a new game. What if the user wants to have a look at his statistics, but not start a now game? And PySol can move all cards to the piles by itself, so you don't have to doubleclick the whole bunch of cards when you already have won. But I'd suggest that it would be better to split this into feature requests for Aisleriot, so that they can implement the functions of PySol that really make a better user experience. -- Add PySol to Ubuntu Gnome Games https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/139639 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gnome-games in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 138586] Re: Gnometris controls very unresponsive when keys are held down
I hope this is the same bug, otherwise I'll open a new one: In Gutsy, (with Compiz and XGL, ATI Card), I notices that this slow response ist so slow, that it even affects the following blocks: E.g., I have a block in the right position and speed up falling by pressing arrow down. Then sometimes even the following few blocks come falling down uncontrollable. Same with right or left. After some time, the keys hitted in the meanwhile are executed, i.e., when a block moved left and I wanted to get it right, the following blocks all move left, until suddenly one moves right. This makes the game really unusable. [Bug 119581] No right-click character information with desktop effects
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gucharmap Normally, when right-clicking on a charater, a bigger version is shown in a floating box with additional font information. When desktop effects are turned on (i.e., when running compiz), this doesn't work. I noticed a quick flash in the tasklist, as if a new window was open for a very short time. [Bug 61728] Re: [disks-admin] need to be rewritten with the new API and using hal
There is at lease one more important usecase for disks-admin: When using the Desktop-CD as a rescue system, disks have manually to be mounted if you want to work with them from the live system. Besides that, disks-admin had an informational value: It gave on overview about a disks partitions, their size and free space.
