[Bug 1874219] Re: PC suspends after 20 minutes at the login screen

2020-05-18 Thread Graham Inggs
I've just set up a brand new workstation with Ubuntu Desktop 20.04, and
it does not seem to be affected. It has been sitting at the login
screen for 8 hours and has not suspended.

Is it possible that only upgrades could be affected by this?

@vanvugt: Thanks, 'sudo systemctl isolate multi-user.target' does
prevent the autosuspend.

Although it doesn't survive a reboot, so maybe if one needs something
more persistent:

I guess then this is not quite the same as LP: #1759325, although the behaviour

I've also tried the following, to no avail:

sudo -u gdm dbus-launch gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.screensaver
lock-enabled 'false'
sudo -u gdm dbus-launch gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.screensaver lock-delay 0
sudo -u gdm dbus-launch gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.session idle-delay 0

[Bug 1874219] [NEW] PC suspends after 20 minutes at the login screen

2020-04-22 Thread Graham Inggs
Public bug reported:

Same as LP: #1759325 in Bionic, but this time affecting Focal.

After some update in the last month, my desktop PC now suspends after 20
minutes at the login screen.

I was able to override the setting for my user account by adjusting the
power settings in gnome-control-center. I see no obvious way of
overriding the default for the system.

Asking on IRC, I was pointed at LP: #1868260, but got no response there.

[Bug 1759325] [NEW] PC suspends after 20 minutes at the login screen

2018-03-27 Thread Graham Inggs
Public bug reported:

After upgrading a fresh install of 16.04 to 18.04, my desktop PC now
suspends after 20 minutes at the login screen.

This change in default probably comes from this commit:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-settings-daemon/commit/2fdb48fa

The behaviour also changed for my user account, but I was able to
override that by adjusting the power settings in gnome-control-center.
I see no obvious way of overriding the default for the system.

2013-12-05 Thread Graham Inggs
@mterry: thanks for the fixes and the upload.

I can update my patch for precise, but as it stands, it also converts gcr,
which was split out of gnome-keyring into its own package in quantal, to
multiarch.
Before we can convert gnome-keyring (including gcr) to multiarch in precise, we
would first need to convert gcr to multiarch in raring and quantal, see LP:
#998715.

+ [Regression Potential]

+
+
libgcr-3-1:i386 depends on libgcr-3-common:i386, but this package doesn't

[Bug 859600] Re: Please convert gnome-keyring to multiarch

2013-07-06 Thread Graham Inggs
This is Rodney's Quantal patch from comment #41 with the following changes:
The gnome-keyring package depends on libp11-kit-gnome-keyring instead of
recommends.
The libp11-kit-gnome-keyring package now breaks and replaces gnome-keying (
${binary:Version}).

I believe this needs to be fixed in Quantal before it can be fixed in
Precise so that the upgrade path is not broken.

This patch for Precise includes the same changes as in the Quantal patch
above, and includes the multi-arch changes in the gcr package from Saucy
( see LP: #859600).

I will be able to work on this and gcr again in a couple of days' time.
Hopefully early next week I'll attach debdiffs.
In the meantime, you are welcome to test gnome-keyring from my PPA.

[Bug 859600] Re: Please convert gnome-keyring to multiarch

2013-06-25 Thread Graham Inggs
For the gnome-keyring package to be considered multi-arch in Precise, surely
libgck and libgcr need to be multi-arch as well?
Then we can close LP: #998715 for Precise in this SRU.

My other concern is what will happen when someone picks up
libp11-kit-gnome-keyring in Precise and then upgrades to Quantal?
Quantal's gnome-keyring will overwrite libp11-kit-gnome-keyring because its
Breaks and Replaces are on a lower version of gnome-keyring. If this gets
SRU'd for Precise, surely it must get SRU'd for Quantal as well?

[Bug 859600] Re: Please convert gnome-keyring to multiarch

2013-06-25 Thread Graham Inggs
I've built another gnome-keyring package for Precise in my PPA that I
hope fixes all three issues (multi-arch gnome-keyring, multi-arch gcr
and split libp11-kit-gnome-keyring).

The test case (on an x86_64 system) would be something like:

$ wine notepad
You should see the error message:
p11-kit: couldn't load module:
/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/pkcs11/gnome-keyring-pkcs11.so:
/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/pkcs11/gnome-keyring-pkcs11.so: cannot open shared
object file: No such file or directory

$ sudo apt-get install libp11-kit-gnome-keyring:i386
$ wine notepad
The p11kit error no longer appears.

$ sudo apt-get install libgcr-3-1:i386
The following packages are installed: libgck-1-0:i386 libgcr-3-1:i386 and
libgcr-3-common

I can attach a debdiff if needed.

[Bug 859600] Re: Please convert gnome-keyring to multiarch

2013-06-24 Thread Graham Inggs
@eraserix: gnome-keyring is marked Multi-Arch: foreign so that, for
example, an amd64 gnome-keyring can satisfy an i386 package's dependency
on it.

The version numbers in Breaks and Replaces look wrong to me too.

As jhansonxi wrote in comment 48, libp11-kit-gnome-keyring:i386 won't be
installable until gcr is multi-arch.

[Bug 859600] Re: Please convert gnome-keyring to multiarch

2013-06-24 Thread Graham Inggs
I also had a go at this today. :)

I built a gnome-keyring package for Precise in my PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~ginggs/+archive/sru

It is adam-stokes' last attempt plus the following changes:
- Change gnome-keyring's Recommends on libp11-kit-gnome-keyring
  to Depends.
- Change libp11-kit-gnome-keyring's Breaks and Replaces on
  gnome-keyring to ( ${binary:Version}).

@eraserix: I agree that installing libp11-kit-gnome-keyring:i386 is
correct for the test case, not gnome-keyring:i386 as it contains the
executables and is not co-installable.

[Bug 859600] Re: Please convert gnome-keyring to multiarch

2013-06-24 Thread Graham Inggs
@eraserix: as for how is the new libp11-kit-gnome-keyring supposed to find it's
way
to the affected users?

Both wine and cups got updates in Raring to Recommends and Depends the
new libp11-kit-gnome-keyring respectively:

wine1.4 (1.4.1-0ubuntu5) raring; urgency=low

  * Add new libp11-kit-gnome-keyring package to recommends
- Should fix a few apps (LP: #859600)

 -- Scott Ritchie scottritc...@ubuntu.com Tue, 12 Feb 2013 17:12:01
-0800

cups (1.6.2-1ubuntu2) raring; urgency=low

  * debian/control: Added libp11-kit-gnome-keyring to the dependencies of
the cups-binary package (LP: #1157904).

 -- Till Kamppeter till.kamppe...@gmail.com Wed, 20 Mar 2013 19:58:01
+0100

I guess these will need to be SRU'd as well.

I'm still inclined to have gnome-keyring Depends on libp11-kit-gnome-
keyring, at least for these SRUs.

[Bug 789615] [NEW] renaming a file selects also its extension by default in listview

2011-05-28 Thread Graham Inggs
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

In Ubuntu 10.04, renaming a file would start with just the file name
highlighted, not the file extension.
In Ubuntu 10.10 and 11.04, the entire file name including the extension is
highlighted so pressing any key loses the file extension.
This only affects List view, Icon and Compact views work as before.

Re: [Bug 642792] Re: ALT+PrtSc not recognised: breaks built-in screenshot function

2011-02-24 Thread Graham Inggs
I've always used RightAlt+PrtScr in Ubuntu and Windows to take a
snapshot of the active window.
I'm still using Lucid (partly because of this bug as I often take
snapshots for instructional purposes) and both LeftAlt+PrtScr and
RightAlt+PrtScr take snapshot the active window.

On 24 February 2011 19:31, Miroslav 642...@bugs.launchpad.net wrote:
My understanding of Alt+PrtScr/SysRq was always like that:

LeftAlt+PrtScr/SysRq produces screenshot of active window

 RightAlt+PrtScr/SysRq produces SysRq event

On some keyboards RightAlt is labeled as Alt Gr.

In Ubuntu 10.10 LeftAlt+PrtScr/SysRq produces SysRq
 and I think that's wrong.

 Bug description:
  Binary package hint: xkeyboard-config

On an EN-GB keyboard (and maybe others) ALT+PrtSc is the default
keyboard shortcut for Take a screenshot of a window as configured in
System - Preferences - Keyboard Shortcuts. However the system
doesn't seem to respond to that keyboard combination at all. Pressing
ALT+PrtSc on a default Maverick install does nothing. Indeed
attempting to _set_ that keyboard shortcut in the Keyboard Shortcuts
dialog results in it not being registered.

  Workaround:
  sudo sysctl -w kernel.sysrq=0

  Steps to reproduce:-

  1) Try to screenshot the entire desktop with PrtSc - this works
  2) Try to take a screenshot of one active window with ALT+PrtSc - nothing
 happens.

  Additionally

  1) Navigate to System - Preferences - Keyboard Shortcuts
  2) Scroll down to Desktop - Take a screenshot of a window, and then click
that line in order to set a keyboard shortcut for the action
  3) Press ALT+PrtSc - nothing happens
  4) Press a different keyboard combination such as CTRL+PrtSc or
 Super/Windows+PrtSc - this works

  Additionally

  1) Open a terminal
  2) Run 'xev' and then press ALT+PrtSc. Observe data in the xev terminal
window when ALT is pressed, but nothing for ALT+PrtSc

Seems a fairly critical regression bug given we document this keyboard
shortcut in the help, and it's very commonly used by documenters and
people getting support. It works fine in previous releases.
