[Bug 767095] Re: 1 pixel icons in notification-area-applet when compiz is the windows manager

2011-05-26 Thread Guiodic (Guido Iodice)
@pitboss: this is a rough way . It is better to restart unity with

unity --replace

also

compiz --replace

should work.

[Bug 767095] Re: 1 pixel icons in notification-area-applet when compiz is the windows manager

2011-05-25 Thread Guiodic (Guido Iodice)
@ tkoun : thank you for the feedback.

@ tkoun UbuntuTeam : I don't think Ubuntu can revert compiz to 0.8.6 version
in Natty. This would break Unity that is the real new stuff in Natty. And, I
think the bug is more trivial than we think, the difficult is to find it in the
code.
But, definitively, it is related to compiz.

[Bug 767095] Re: 1 pixel icons in notification-area-applet when compiz is the windows manager

2011-05-24 Thread Guiodic (Guido Iodice)
This is not MS Windows. You can use any DE, for example: KDE, LXDE,
XFCE or any other environment made manualy

You do miss the point. Ubuntu comes with GNOME, not KDE, LXDE etc. and
gnome-panel and compiz are officially supported, not something in
universe.

Second of all, DX have been looking into this issue.

why no one in DX team asked a test or more info?

we will re-prioritise to get this in for the next SRU.
Thank you,.

Is there someone expert in python 2.6 2.7 (and viceversa) transition? the
problem forward-porting Compiz 0.8.6 to Natty is that Compizconfig 0.8.x works

May be it is a bug in icons size detection for PNG format

[Bug 767095] Re: 1 pixel icons in notification-area-applet when compiz is the windows manager

2011-05-24 Thread Guiodic (Guido Iodice)
Well, I haved success. I compiled all compiz packages from Maverick in
Natty.

THIS IS AN EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE - PLEASE GIVE ME FEEDBACK IN PRIVATE
NOTE THAT ***UNITY WILL BREAK***

0. Set Ubuntu classic as your session in GDM
1. Remove all packages related to compiz via synaptic (included libdecoration0,
emerald, compizconfig etc)
2. Remove all unity related packages , note ubuntu-desktop will be removed
after the step 1, don't worry.
3. Remove autoremovable packages (you can use synaptic)
4. add my PPA: ppa:guido-iodice/compiz-0.8.6-natty
5. update
6. install compiz, compiz-core, compiz-fusion-plugins-main,
compiz-fusion-plugins-extra, compiz-fusion-plugins-unsupported (optional),
compiz-gnome, compiz-plugins, compizconfig-backend-gconf,
compizconfig-settings-manager, libcompizconfig0, libdecoration0,
python-compizconfig, and, if you want, simple-ccsm ::: note, some of this
packages are dependencies so they will be selected when you select the main
package.
7. login/log out

It is very simple, but be care!!!

Are you sure? :-)
Please, consider that compizconfig breaks, so you must configure compiz via

Not to speak for the guy that wanted to practice in C++ using compiz

This is FLOSS. Compiz folks does their work well and we must thank them.
The duty of a *distributor* is to bring working software to users, not
the last blending edge and unpatched stuff from git.

RMS sings Join us and share the software. But surely he doesn't use

[Bug 560289] [NEW] brightness-up key does not work

2010-04-10 Thread Guiodic (Guido Iodice)
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

while brightness-down key combination (fn+f6) works well, brightness-up
(fn+f7) doesn't.

Notebook model: fujitsu v6555.

As workaround I'm using this script:

#!/bin/bash
bright=$(cat /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness)
let bright = $bright + 1
echo $bright /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness

and

sudo su
echo 7 /proc/acpi/video/IGPU/LCD0/brightness

works well too.

So I think it is simple to make a quirk.

Modprobing fujitsu-laptop module does not solve.

On Karmic, with nv driver, brightness-up key works well

[Bug 459423] Re: Unable to play video from Youtube plugin results

2009-10-29 Thread Guiodic (Guido Iodice)
The think can be more trivial.

** (totem:28137): WARNING **: Couldn't find the t param of entry (null)
or its FLV URI.

see: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/totem/+bug/416359/comments/8
and: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/totem/+bug/323649/comments/10

but that patch does not work because youtube plugin is now il C.
