It seems that a lot of bugs (#670171, #521198, #504771) are related with this one. Isn't full Adium message styles support an important issue ? In Maverick, Empathy still lacks CSS variants, anti-aliasing (buddy icons look horrible, even with the Ubuntu default style), distinction between single-chat and conference room windows, and proper font support, which causes usability problems. Those styles are also difficult to install ; you need to copy-paste the downloaded theme to a well-hidden folder (~/.local/share/adium/message-styles/). Shoud I file another bug report ? When I copy (Ctrl + C, or right click and Copy) text from somewhere
and after that close the program where it is, the clipboard gets empty.
Steps to reproduce in gedit :
1. Pick any text field that supports copying, copy some text.
2. Paste into any other text field.
3. It works.
4. Close the source window or program.
5. Paste now does nothing.
This bug will happen in any application that doesn't comply with the
clipboard specification from FreeDesktop.

I've been upgrading to Karmic recently, and the new Gnometris seems to keep a good response time at the higher levels, even with Tango Shaded theme. That's still a problem to me, too.
