[Bug 243953] Re: cursor not showing in mc 4.6.2 with visible whitespace feature

2011-04-26 Thread Jani Monoses
Alexey, thanks for the patch. I bet you did not expect an answer after almost 3
years :)
I am testing this in natty and the cursor does not disappear because mcedit
shows - instead of tabs. I could not quickly find a way to disable this
to reproduce the symptoms you describe in the Debian bug report.
I suggest if this still appears and it is reproducible, to open a bug in Gnome
bugzilla on the VTE component, with steps to reproduce
and link to that from this bugreport so we do not loose track.
thank you

[Bug 123078] Re: System - Quit takes a long time to appear

2008-05-06 Thread Jani Monoses
I see this too on two computers since Hardy where g-p-m is disabled. The logout
dialog code checks to see if suspend and hibernate buttons are to be added and
asks g-p-m. However if it is not running it does not get the answer and it
blocks. g-p-m is started by this but possibly too late to answer. Subsequent
attempts to log out work since g-p-m has been started.
Any other app that talks to g-p-m via dbus can wake it up so maybe this is why
sometimes it works and sometimes not for some users.
It can be reproduced by killing g-p-m and trying to log out (button or
gnome-session-save --kill)

Killing g-p-m then calling for example
dbus-send --session --print-reply --dest=org.freedesktop.PowerManagement
--type=method_call --reply-timeout=6000 /org/freedesktop/PowerManagement
org.freedesktop.PowerManagement.CanSuspend
restarts g-p-m then quit works.

The logout code seems to hang on AddMatch . Had g-p-m been running the
AddMatch/RemoveMatch pairs below would have delimited calls to
CanSuspend and CanHibernate

method call sender=:1.0 - dest=org.freedesktop.DBus

[Bug 224086] [NEW] [totem-xine] sound gets muted after a few minutes

2008-04-29 Thread Jani Monoses
Public bug reported:

On a 8.04 liveCD playing an avi with totem-xine (not totem-gstreamer) causes an
error dialog to pop up after a few minutes saying that the sound device is
being used by another app and after that there is no sound at all.
A restart of totem-xine with the same file works afterwards without getting

[Bug 88463] Re: build with --disable-gnome

2007-03-01 Thread Jani Monoses
If it is needed the change can be reverted, it's a simple line in
debian/rules.

The pros and cons of having duplicated gnome-system-tools/xubuntu-
system-tools source packages in main vs. having bug buddy integration in
g-s-t need to be evaluated.

Carlos, do you know approximately what percentage of g-s-t bugs were
reported via bug-buddy?

As for custom GNOME LiveCD, rebuilding g-s-t with --enable-gnome is easy
to do, compared to other changes they are likely to make to the Ubuntu
CD.

[Bug 88463] Re: build with --disable-gnome

2007-02-28 Thread Jani Monoses
Yes, GTK a11y initialisation is done using the GTK_MODULES envvar,
that's why gaim, gimp etc are accessible. Only bonobo specific a11y is
initialized in gnome_program_init() but that's not a problem for apps
that do not use bonoboui.

If any gnome-dependencies are still needed by the nautilus plugin which
is in the g-s-t package they could be added to Recommends: so they do
not install if only the apps are used (for example in xfce) but not the
plugin.

[Bug 88463] build with --disable-gnome

2007-02-27 Thread Jani Monoses
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools

With the latest g-s-t the only difference between the apps built with
--enable-gnome and --disable-gnome is the usage of gnome_program_init()
vs gtk_init(). Because bug-buddy is not used in Ubuntu the difference is

then libgnoffice-0-dev should depend on either if the two libs. IIRC

2006-09-16 Thread Jani Monoses
I'll let the debian maintainers know as well. As for transition costs, it's
easier because there'
s one less upload to do, but what other transiion costs are there? Packages
depending on
p-g2 still get gconf so all current packages should work without being touched.
As for canvas, I thought that maybe that is deprecated since there's goocanvas

[Bug 60615] split out gconf bindings

2006-09-15 Thread Jani Monoses
Public bug reported:

Gconf is used by several python programs (gnome-app-install, update-manager,
onboard)
Even if they do not use other gnome libraries besides gtk, these are brought in
because the python bindings are all in a single package. This affects CD space
and bandwidth for
people willing to install such app in non-gnome environments.
It is more logical to have separate packages for .so-s which do not depend on
eachother.
It can be done step by step, so this patch only separates gconf. Bug 30173 is
related and
could be solved if this one goes well.

2006-05-27 Thread Jani Monoses
I don't know about the default handler, but if it's a firefox bug it's
too late to fix it now (if at all) for dapper, and it may be used by
other apps too.

if it's a GNOME private thing it should not be used by non-gnome apps.
If they use it and rely on it there may be no other way for apps other
than nautilus to play nice with them.

And if x-directory/gnome-default-handle is a fallback for when no
x-directory is listed why it is used? AFAIk there are two such handlers
listed in our case one for nautilus one for thunar?

[Bug 35997] Re: Gnome's Places menu starts Konqueror instead of Nautilus

2006-05-25 Thread Jani Monoses
If thunar can handle that, and the user installed thunar, is it surprising that
is does that? From what I know, apps can say what they handle and that's it.
Policy is decided by the user, or the sysadmin who modifies the system wide
settings of these associsations. So I still don't think thunar is at fault here
if it handles something it can handle. If it does not integrate well with
Places or does something badly, I agree.
Similar things can be said about many apps in a mixed desktop environment. For
example installing nautilus on an xfce system and running it, takes over the
desktop (default behaviour) and file manager roles. People complain repeatedly
on the xfce ML but that's how it is supposed to be: policy is not up to the
app. Can we ask make nautilus not take over the desktop and have a
--with-desktop as an opt-in option? I don't think so :)
I'll notify thunar upstream, maybe there is a solution, or indeed this is not
intended behaviour. If it annoys people we could override this I guess. It's
just that I am not sure it is 'correct'.

[Bug 38551] Re: gdm should depends on xubuntu-artwork too

artwork remains in xubuntu-deafult-settings for now, no need to delay uploading
this fix.

[Bug 24195] Re: OpenDocument plugin should be shipped with Abiword, not -plugins

2006-04-13 Thread Jani Monoses
plugins are installed in xubuntu-desktop now. I am not sure what to do with
this bug report as it is not just xubuntu related.

[Bug 38551] Re: gdm should depends on xubuntu-artwork too

2006-04-07 Thread Jani Monoses
what about depending on a virtual ubuntu-gdm-artwork package only, which the
current deps are made to provide. Then 3rd parties can add their own artwork
packages
(Not that the current artwork is too big at 5-6 Megs, but may be a more
flexible solution for
long term)

[Bug 30173] allow separate python-gnomecanvas package

2006-01-31 Thread Jani Monoses
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/30173

Affects: gnome-python python-gnome2 (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
it would be nice if the bindings were more fine grained, like the ruby gnome
bindings, so one could only install python bindings to gnomecanvas without the
rest of the gnome bits, since libgnomecanvas does not depend on other gnome C
libraries.
python-gnome2 would then additionally depend on the broken out packages.
