Re: [Bug 1776069] Re: "Don't know how to handle 'file:///home//Downloads/.flatpakref'"
@olivier.tilloy, unfortunately my system is not in the same exact state as it was in early June, so I cannot provide an answer knowing nothing else to the system has happened between then and now. As far as I remember, rebooting the system nor the Software Center resolved the issue, at that time. Whe it comes to actually working though, Software Center now opens the files okay, but it takes an excessive amount of time to "load" the information on-screen about the package being installed. (I assume that would be a different bug?) Thank you for helping me out and your contributions to the community! [Bug 1410765] Re: GIMP uses more system resources than necessary
System monitor status during a simple touch-up using Heal in GIMP. This is the exact same file I was editing from yesterday with the same apps open at the same time, ceteris paribus. I could not perform a screenshot while GIMP was incoherent in the background, forcing me to grab my phone to snap this picture. As you can see, CPU usage goes through the roof in all four cores and fluctuates quickly between using 100% of per-core power to much less, almost like each core is taking a break or trying to push power elsewhere. RAM usage actually appeared to be pretty stable though, so maybe this was not a RAM issue too much at all? The picture was too large to attach... [Bug 1410765] [NEW] GIMP uses more system resources than necessary
Public bug reported: I am using GNU Image Manipulation Program version 2.8.14 on Ubuntu 14.10 x64 on my AMD Phonom II X4 machine packed with 8GB DDR3 RAM and more than the recommended amount of SWAP-Space found in multiple locations throughout my PC, and even though I have all this caching space and more plus a powerful processor, GIMP still eats my computer's system resources alive even while doing some quick editing and touch-ups, specifically when using the Heal tool - The window will freeze up and continue what it's doing in the background, but for that time being, it won't let me do much besides that. It has now gotten to a point where GIMP uses so many system resources all at one time where it locks up my (USB 2.0) keyboard for all apps and won't let me use the keyboard at all until GIMP is done doing what it is doing. I have even switched to the LowLatency Linux Kernel to help speed up my PC and keep only needed background tasks while using minimal RAM. [Bug 1400189] [NEW] Rhythmbox won't recognize an audio CD
Public bug reported: I have recently just imported songs from an audio CD to my Ubuntu 14.10 PC just fine using the FLAC audio format, wait until it's done, remove the disc. I have to leave the house for a minute to pick up something, come back, unlock my lockscreen which Rhythmbox is still on in the background but in an idle state since I was not using it after that first import, and I get ready for round two of importing a disc... A completely different disc. This time, I pop in the new disc, my computer notices a disc but doesn't ask me what to do. I look at my currently open Rhythmbox window to quickly find out it has no information about an audio CD I just popped in. After some tinkering in my file manager, I click the disc label , multiple times before my PC will even ask me what to do (which is not the settings it's supposed to be on), leading me to file this bug report. I ask it to open the new disc in Rhythmbox, the app temporarily opens, then force-closes. I just feel like Rhythmbox isn't stable enough for everyday users, which is a shame. [Bug 1339820] Re: Preventing fraudulent flash memory
It **is** valid. If enough testing is done on these fake, unauthorized chipsets, the easier it will be for an instant fake or broken status to pop up on the screen to alert the user before continuing, bringing education of fake NAND/FLASH memory to the publics' eyes and hopefully alarming OEMs to crack down on these fake chipsets harming their brands. The more information in the database (with consent of the users, of course), the better and quicker. And adding the BadBlacks program and list of faulty chipsets will even further improve reliability of catching a bad chipset before it's too late. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-disk-utility in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1339820 Title: Preventing fraudulent flash memory To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-disk-utility/+bug/1339820/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1339820] [NEW] Preventing fraudulent flash memory
*** This bug is a security vulnerability *** Public security bug reported: Do a simple Google search or eBay search for microSD or FLASH memory and you'll quickly realize something: There are some great prices out there! That is, until you actually get the memory device in your hands, test it out, and it fails within a matter of hours. There needs to be something out there, a common technology practice, to correctly and accurately test these memory modules the first time the user plugs in the device in order to prevent imminent data failure at an unexpected moment. I have the idea for the GNOME Disk Utility in Ubuntu -- To accurately test any new memory module installed with the consent of the user the second the module is plugged in and allowed to gain ROOT access to the filesystem. A simple test like this can save the general public tonnes of money when it comes to buying memory, keep malicious codes from entering our loved computer systems, and help educate us on how to choose the correct memory technology, where to buy it, and what to look for, etc.. Included in this idea I have is an optional form to report certain module types into a larger database that is interconnected between all computers using the GNOME Disk Utility and connected to the internet for even faster emergency diagnosis with instant fraudulent device recognition that will then push a warning to the user to remove the module at once and a set of instructions on how to properly request a refund for their counterfeit device. Something like this has never before been integrated into mainstream computing methods, and it's about time a smart, automated, self- learning, user-teaching system like this is implemented. [Bug 1235327] [NEW] Nautilus freezes after trash emptying
Public bug reported: Every single time, in Ubuntu 13.10 beta 2, GNOME edition, nautilus freezes after I empty the trash without fail. [Bug 1235466] [NEW] Previous chats from Hangouts aren't imported

[Bug 1235482] [NEW] No option to encrypt files individually
*** This bug is a security vulnerability *** Public security bug reported: During install of Ubuntu, I am always offered the option to encrypt my entire home folder, but I don't need to or desire to encrypt everything, especially if I am not going to remember where I put the encryption passphrase I'm supposed to print out, plus even if my home folder IS encrypted, that doesn't encrypt the files I send via email or IM to anyone. What would I recommend? Keep the option to encrypt your home folder at install, but also add the option to encrypt any file you desire, essentially password-protect any file I want simply by right-clicking on it and clicking encrypt, without having to go through the whole .zip process, which not all devices are compatible with. Allowing the user to encrypt his or her own files on-demand allows more control the user can do to protect his or her assets, even when that file may be send over the web, something that isn't available now unless the person compresses it into a .zip, .tar.gz, etc file that all computers aren't compatible with. [Bug 886620] Re: System Monitor is too complex for everyday users.
If implemented, the new Gnome System Monitor needs a default keyboard shortcut for all Ubuntu systems without users having to configure it. I propose Ubuntu uses the most popular Ctrl+Alt+Del and Command+Opt+Esc keyboard shortcuts to open up the Gnome System Monitor. This will make the transition to Ubuntu *that much easier for complete beginners! [Bug 886620] [NEW] System Monitor is too complex for everyday users.
*** This bug is a security vulnerability *** Public security bug reported: There are no common names for applications, there is no default popular keyboard shortcut to access the System Monitor (like Ctrl+Alt+Del or Command+Opt+Esc), and there is no tab for applications that the user actually knows are running (like open windows).
