small, but really obvious bugs like these ruin the reputation of the rest of ubuntu. the first things people will notice when using ubuntu should work perfectly, and it should be the top priority to have them work perfectly. this bug was not present in 7.10 and is therefore a regression. i do not think that you should have to relogin/restart the computer in order to start setting up shares, that is way too inconvenient, and you didnt have to do that in gutsy. instead, how about automatically restarting samba after installing the sharing services, that way you dont need to restart? or you could make it so that samba is never started in the first place until you are finished installing the services, or something like that? whatever. it doesnt matter how its fixed, as long as its fixed in the best way possible. :) i do not want to have to logout and then log back in to start sharing stuff after installing, many people will find that inconvenient and will be annoyed, even though it only happens once (it shouldnt happen at all). -- easy file sharing not notifying about logout/login https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/212098 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

wow, i got a response already?! im very impressed! also, no, i did not restart my session, and i was never told anywhere that i had to to get it working. therefore, i still think something can be changed here. i think that after installing samba, it should either give u that u need 2 restart ur pc 4 the changes 2 take effect system tray notification, or it should tell you after installing it that you need to restart your session or start the daemon manually for it to start working however, even better than all of those, how about once its done installing, it just starts the samba service and stuff on its own? this makes the most sense and seems kinda obvious now. anyway, i recommend that after u finish installing it, it fires it up right away so that way people like me dont get confused and start putting a bunch of frowny faces in launchpad :( i really hope u consider it, and make the changes and stuff, or just disregard me and post an excuse in the comments :) chao -- dont have permission to create share https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/254328 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 254328] [NEW] dont have permission to create share
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus i am using ubuntu 8.04.1 with all of the latest updates applied as of this post. i used apport so some stuff is attached steps to repeat: in nautilus, right click on a folder and select Sharing Options check the box Share this folder click Create Share note: if you didnt install the packages u need 2 share folders and stuff, u should obviously anyway when i do that i get this error. i attached a screenshot, mmkay? anyway, i consider this bug to be pretty significant, because file sharing over a local network can be extremely important, especially to schools and other businesses and whatever, and i thought that this is the targeted audience for LTS releases. not only that, but this bug did not exist in the last release, 7.10, which means that its a regression. geez, i thought LTS releases were supposed to be exeptionally stable. actually, this release brought the most regressions i have ever seen in ubuntu's history. dont get me wrong, i love ubuntu, and i use it all the time, which is why i dont like finding so many bugs in it. i hope this gets fixed :) ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 Date: Sat Aug 2 19:04:55 2008 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.04 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/nautilus NonfreeKernelModules: ath_hal nvidia Package: nautilus 1:2.22.3-0ubuntu2 PackageArchitecture: i386 ProcEnviron: PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: nautilus Uname: Linux 2.6.24-19-generic i686 ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug -- dont have permission to create share https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/254328 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

look, this is a really ugly bug, and its been around for years, why the heck wasnt it fixed by now if people knew about it since 2 years ago, possibly longer?!! look, with obvious bugs like this, it discourages people from using ubuntu, cause they think its flaud when they boot it up and they can immediately see these. someone PLEASE FINALLY PUT AN END TO THIS BUG!!! it seems like it could be so easy to fix, to! this is ridiculous! -- Random screensaver is always the same one https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/53575 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-screensaver in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 222808] [NEW] selecting the random theme in the screensaver settings ALWAYS is xlyap
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver in every version of ubuntu ive tried and on every computer ive installed it on, selecting random in screensaver preferences always ends up as xlyap. i am very surprised that this hasnt been fixed by now. xlyap is also not that great of a screensaver. what should happen when you select the random theme is it should pick any screensaver at random each time the screensaver is initiated. ** Affects: gnome-screensaver (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: random screensaver xlyap -- selecting the random theme in the screensaver settings ALWAYS is xlyap https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/222808 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-screensaver in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 222328] [NEW] same-gnome doesnt exit fullscreen mode after closing and re-launching it
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-games ubuntu 8.04 version 1:2.22.1.1-0ubuntu3 when i played same gnome, i selected fullscreen mode, i finished the game, and selected quit from the highscore menu. when i played it again, it was still in fullscreen mode. when i pressed f11, nothing happened, aside from a flicker. when i went to the view menu and selected the toggle fullscreen option, it did the same thing. now, i cant play same- gnome in windowed mode again. when i open it, it occupies the entire screen, and i cant turn fullscreen off. if everyones going to be using this operating system in the future, the games section will probably be one of the first places they turn. people should not get disgouraged from ubuntu because of all of these bugs that are so readily apparent. in case this information comes in handy, im using an hp m9060n and i have compiz fusion enabled, set to the preset extra setting ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 Date: Fri Apr 25 21:42:21 2008 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.04 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia Package: gnome-games 1:2.22.1.1-0ubuntu3 PackageArchitecture: i386 ProcEnviron: PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: gnome-games Uname: Linux 2.6.24-16-generic i686 ** Affects: gnome-games (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: fullscreen gnome same -- same-gnome doesnt exit fullscreen mode after closing and re-launching it https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/222328 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-games in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
