[Bug 69914] Re: Partition name weirdness

Exactly, it never had a label in the first place, and I don't want it to
have one. Mtools reports no label. In Dapper it had no label, in Edgy it
still has no label, but a bogus one gets reported.

[Bug 81608] Re: Please use DejaVu Sans Condensed as the default font

2007-01-29 Thread Jimmy Angelakos
It does look different and maybe better with the Slight hinting
setting (I believe that's what you meant), but what bewilders me is
that, on my machine, the other hinting settings (Medium, Full) have no
effect at all (I use Subpixel RGB Smoothing).

[Bug 81608] Re: Please use DejaVu Sans Condensed as the default font

2007-01-26 Thread Jimmy Angelakos
I've been meaning to submit this but somehow I forgot. It's the first
thing I change when I install Ubuntu for me or others and everybody is
relieved when they see Deja Vu Sans Condensed as the default font. It
takes up much less space on the screen than the grotesque Deja Vu Sans,
it is very legible and, aesthetically, everybody I've asked from the
local LUG finds it a much better default font. I understand Michiel's
concerns over testing, but not over appearance. Ubuntu looks more like a
Commodore 64 with the default font and more like a 2007 OS with
Condensed.

Just my 2 euro cents :)

Just my 2 euro cents:

Eric, I find that your emblems are extremely professional and beautiful.
Good job! For the sake of UI consistency I'd prefer sole use of the
orange emblems, but as many people seem to think they are not so usable,
I took a look at your preview of the coloured emblems and I find those
very nice too. You are truly an asset to the artwork team.

[Bug 69914] Partition name weirdness

2006-11-02 Thread Jimmy Angelakos
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hal

Hi, I just upgraded from Dapper to Edgy. I have always had 4 data
partitions mounted from /etc/fstab:

/dev/hda1 (NTFS) as /media/hda1
/dev/hda5 (FAT32) as /media/hda5
/dev/hdb1 (EXT3) as /media/hdb1
/dev/hdb5 (FAT32) as /media/hdb5

They always appeared as four icons on my desktop.
However, after the upgrade, /dev/hdb5 is now assigned a peculiar, unreadable
name.
I get the strange behaviour shown in the screenshot attached.

Public bug reported:

[Bug 52348] Re: nautilus stops copying files if it encounters 2 files that differ only by case and the target filesystem is case insensitive

2006-09-19 Thread Jimmy Angelakos
I confirm this, on Dapper 6.06 with all updates, and Nautilus

When I try to copy/move files that include e.g. file.txt and
FILE.TXT to a VFAT filesystem the operation is aborted silently and I
am none the wiser. I have even deleted files accidentally that I thought
had been copied over :/
