[Bug 2059847] Re: Input lag or freezes on Nvidia desktops with X11 after logging "MetaSyncRing: Sync object is not ready -- were events handled properly?"

2024-05-12 Thread JK
> Here's the "fix" snippet folks:

Thanks a lot @Deku King! This bug is driving me crazy, since it affects
all parts of the GUI and makes my PC almost unusable. Except for gaming,
which is not affected. Hmm... maybe I should check if I accidentally
booted the wrong OS...

[Bug 2059847] Re: Input lag or freezes on Nvidia desktops with X11 after logging "MetaSyncRing: Sync object is not ready -- were events handled properly?"

2024-05-10 Thread JK
OMG, what an incredibly stupid move by the ubuntu maintainers. I have
the same problem as anyone else who has been forcefully downgraded and I
tried to solve it by reverting to Daniel's version. However, this
"downgrade" would uninstall a lot of GNOME related packages (including
`gnome-shell`):

```
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Reading state information... Done
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
  libnvidia-cfg1-525 libnvidia-common-525 libnvidia-compute-525
libnvidia-compute-525:i386 libnvidia-decode-525 libnvidia-decode-525:i386
libnvidia-egl-wayland1
  libnvidia-encode-525 libnvidia-encode-525:i386 libnvidia-extra-525
nvidia-firmware-535-535.161.07 nvidia-utils-525 xserver-xorg-video-nvidia-525
Use 'apt autoremove' to remove them.
The following additional packages will be installed:
  notification-daemon policykit-1-gnome python3-update-manager update-manager
ubuntu-session
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  notification-daemon policykit-1-gnome
The following packages will be upgraded:
  python3-update-manager update-manager update-manager-core
The following packages will be DOWNGRADED:
  mutter-common
3 upgraded, 2 newly installed, 1 downgraded, 15 to remove and 13 not upgraded.
Need to get 1.246 kB of archives.
After this operation, 15,0 MB disk space will be freed.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n]
```

Seems like we're stuck and have to wait for a proper fix ... again! I've
been using Ubuntu for about 20 years and have never been so close to
switching to a different distribution. The way they handle this bug is
absolutely ridiculous.

Just want to add that the bug also affects GnuCash and basically makes
it unusable. The updated mutter from the PPA fixed it.

Ubuntu 22.04, Xorg and NVidia 535.171.04.

[Bug 792085] Re: Automatic remount of safely removed usb 3.0 drive

2016-08-26 Thread JK
Definitely not Nautilus related. The same occurs if you run “Disks”
utility, select a USB 3 disk and then “Power off” from the menu near the
top-right corner. To securely remove a USB 3 disk I unmount it first
then run “Disks” utility, select it and then press “Standby Now” from
the same menu. No problems so far. Could this be a temporary solution
until this is fixed?

[Bug 1310718] Re: package gdm 3.10.0.1-0ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2014-08-21 Thread JK
I can confirm this bug. It actually broke my dist-upgrade from 12.04 to
14.04. I fixed it manually by deleting the broken script and removing
gdm.

I tried to reinstall gdm today but the package is still broken, i. e.
the post-install script is broken. Executing it manually with

   bash -x /var/lib/dpkg/info/gdm.postinst

results in:

[Bug 438065] Re: Karmic: DVDs cannot be mounted in GNOME

2009-10-05 Thread JK
 Just to note
This does not just relate to dvd's. ( as noted in some dups and other reports
 In most (and here for sure) any media will cause the issue, whether data
 cd's, data dvd's, dvd_video or audio cd's.

Not true for me. Audio CDs and blank CDs are working correctly (i.e.
auto-mounting and ejecting) while everything containing 'normal' data
doesn't...

 First is that brasero nautilus plugin was locking the DVD drive.

If the failed auto-mounting is indeed caused by brasero locking the
drive, how can a change within the kernel 'fix' that behaviour? And
where do all those 'unaligned read' (and other) errors within syslog
come from?

That knowledge may help fixing the bug within brasero...

[Bug 439482] [NEW] Disabling suspend/hibernate doesn't work

2009-09-30 Thread JK
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gconf

Because suspend/hibernate does not work on my laptop (and cause a lot of
trouble), I tried to disable them using the 'can_hibernate' and
'can_suspend' keys in gconf. Unfortunately this does not work! I still
can select 'suspend' and 'hibernate' within the 'indicator-applet-
session' and the power-management settings. I've set the keys as
mandatory but that didn't help. I've also rebooted the system after
making changes. The gconftool shows:

  can_hibernate = false
  can_suspend = false

but obviously these settings are not respected. I've attached the output
of 'gconftool-2 -R /apps/gnome-power-manager'.

[Bug 436767] Re: Automounting CDs does not work

2009-09-28 Thread JK
Thanks for your response!

The gnome-volume-manager packet is installed on my Jaunty system. Why is
it still there when it's obsolete? Does it even do anything? Anyway, I
attached the output of devkit-disks --dump. The cdrom is listed,
automounting for audio and blank cds works too, only data discs are a
problem...

I just saw that you set the importance to low. While I surely wouldn't
classify this as a blocker, I think it's important because it's a show-
stopper for a user that doesn't know how the use the cmdline. And even
then it's very annoying because the drive is not unlocked after
unmounting the disc (see above), so you have to restart the machine to
get your disc back or change it.

[Bug 381275] [NEW] Rhythmbox connection to Xbox360 drops

2009-05-28 Thread JK
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Rhythmbox in Ubuntu 9.04

Added DLNA/UPnP plugin (and installed python-coherence via synaptic
package manager)

Xbox 360 displays Rhythmbox on correct IP address in the Xbox 360 Music
Libary.

However, the connection times out when selecting Rhythmbox as the source
from the Xbox 360 Music Library and the following message is displayed:
The connection to your computer was lost. Make sure your computer is
turned on, connected to your network, and running media sharing
software.

Subsequent connection testing from the Xbox 360 console shows that the
Xbox 360 is connected to the network and also connected to the PC that
has Rhythmbox running on it.

Wasssup??

 Well ... In my case the problem is libgegl-0.0-0 package, in Jaunty
 fresh install we have 0.0.22.0ubuntu3. With this work well, but when
 Cinelerra install this update package to 0.0.23-5pre ~ SVN20090330,Gimp
 stop to work ...

 So, if downgrade 0.0.22 ... Gimp working again.

Hello and thanks for your work,

Gimp still does not start up, and there is no such report in var/crash.
So you can revalidate my report.

Greetings.
