[Bug 310907] Re: [Intrepid] Dragging in Freecell Crashes XWindows
I can confirm this bug. I was playing Elevator in Aisleriot, and experienced the same issues that others are experiencing: screen froze momentarily while I was dragging a card, X crashed, X tried to restart and failed, computer needed hard shutdown. I would love to see this resolved as I think Aisleriot is excellent software. I'm not sure which logfiles would be useful, so please let me know and I will provide them. ** Changed in: xorg-server Status: New = Confirmed -- [Intrepid] Dragging in Freecell Crashes XWindows https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/310907 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 223954] Re: Brightness control still has major bugs
There is another bug which doesn't seem to have been mentioned. Using the [Fn + Up] and [Fn + Dn] keystrokes changes the brightness in huge increments. The keystrokes basically allow me three separate brightness levels: very dim, medium, and very bright. By comparison, my Dell's sound buttons allow me to adjust the sound in very small increments, allowing me to access about 10 different volume levels. I wouldn't mark this bug as low priority, as I would be hesitant to argue that these problems are of low annoyance to any user. [Bug 223954] Re: Brightness control still has major bugs
To quote https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Importance - Low: Bugs which affect functionality, but to a lesser extent than most bugs, examples are: * Ones that can be easily worked around * Ones that affect unusual configurations or uncommon hardware * A bug that has a moderate impact on a non-core application * A cosmetic/usability issue that does not limit the functionality of an application - I guess you could make the argument that this is a cosmetic issue, but that seems like a bit of a stretch. I mean, it's not like this is a bug in Compiz or anything like that. And the bugs certainly do not meet any of the other criteria to be considered Low priority. There is no known workaround to these bugs, let alone an easy workaround, this bug is not related to unusual configurations or uncommon hardware, and this bug is related to core functionality. I would recommend that the priority of these bugs be changed to Medium as they have a moderate impact on a core application. -- Brightness control still has major bugs https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/223954 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

As bgcommon notes, the bug is easily triggered. Set your brightness to a certain level with the Brightness Applet. Alter the brightness with the [Fn + Up] or [Fn + Down] key. Close/reopen the laptop lid and the level will revert to that which had originally been set in the Brightness Applet. As you requested, here are the results of the commands. [Bug 223954] Re: Brightness control still has major bugs
** Description changed: gnome-power-manager and the brightness applet had some very annoying bugs in Gutsy (see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome- power-manager/+bug/137598). For a while after upgrading to Hardy, it seemed as through the aforementioned bug had been resolved. I was able to adjust the screen brightness with [Fn + Up] and [Fn + Down] without issue. But now that I have been using Hardy for a few days, it seems that some of the bugs - remain. Whenever I close/reopen my laptop lid, the brightness level - changes. I have specified (through brightness applet) that the - brightness should be at about 80%. But if after closing/reopening the - laptop lid, the brightness level changes to about 20% and I must use - either the Fn keys or Brightness Applet to revert the brightness to 80%. + remain. [Bug 137598] Re: Screen brightness resets to default (maximum) on idle with AC plugged in
Hardy fixed some of these issues, but introduced more at the same time. I haven't done extensive testing, but I can provide you with my observations. In Gutsy, I had the following problem. If I set the brightness with the [Fn + Up] or [Fn + Down] keystroke, the brightness would at some point revert to the value set in the Brightness Applet. In Hardy, it seems that the opposite happens. If I set the brightness with the Brightness Applet, it will at some point revert to the value set by the [Fn + Up] or [Fn + Down] keystroke. Worse, the brightness level always reverts to some (seemingly random) value after a reboot. I opened up a new bug to discuss the new problems (feel free to mark it a duplicate if you think that would be appropriate): https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-power-manager/+bug/223954 ** Changed in: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Released = Incomplete -- Screen brightness resets to default (maximum) on idle with AC plugged in https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/137598 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 174277] Re: Launchers under System Preferences and System Administration have similar names, leads to confusion.
I think that it would be best to remove Software Sources because that application can be easily reached from Synaptic. Most of the people who use Software Sources probably already use Synaptic, so it is a bit redundant. But if Software Sources has to stay, I would agree that a submenu would be the way to go. After all, there is an Accessibility submenu even though there are only two launchers of that type.
