[Bug 57786] Re: Totem does not update ID3 tag data on streaming radio stations
Let me clarify what I believe to be the correct description of this bug. Totem (using the gstreamer backend) does update the row labeled Title in the sidebar, but it does not update its window's title bar when playing a stream. When one views the window's name via pressing ALT+Tab, glancing at gnome-panel or looking at the window itself, one always sees the song title of the first song that started playing. -- Totem does not update ID3 tag data on streaming radio stations https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/57786 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 32302] Re: Duplicate printers listed when adding HP printer
With respect to the author of the patch, I do not think that this is the right solution. The new behavior does nothing to help new users figure out why they see their printer listed twice and more importantly, which of the two printers listed should be selected. While I have no research to back it up, I am willing to bet anything that the average computer user has no idea what backend means in the context of software. Furthermore, a user should not be forced to learn how CUPS works in order to set up a printer for the most basic usage. I sincerely feel that this is one of those areas where choice needs to be limited and a sane default picked. Only one entry should be on the list for each physical printer. It is extremely unintuitive for any non- technical user to be any other way. -- Duplicate printers listed when adding HP printer https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/32302 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 65656] Re: zenity does not display libnotify message bubble
I am running the development version of Feisty with all the latest updates and as far as I can see the bug is still present. Although, I can manage to get it to work in one particular case whereas it never worked in Edgy. As I understand it, the following command should make the libnotify message bubble appear yet it does not do so in Feisty: zenity --notification --text Bubbles, bubbles everywhere but not a drop to drink. Yes, the above command does make an icon appear in the notification tray area, but the text argument is not displayed unless the mouse pointer is moved over the icon. However, I can make it work correctly by typing the following: zenity --notification --listen message: A little nonsense now and then, is relished by the wisest men. Hopefully someone can resolve this before the Feisty release. Yes, it is a minor cosmetic bug but the functionality could make for some much more user-friendly scripts as they wouldn't need to steal focus. -- zenity does not display libnotify message bubble https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/65656 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for zenity in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: deskbar-applet I'm running the i386 flavor of Ubuntu Edgy Eft beta. I do not have beagle installed. The version of deskbar-applet installed is 2.16.0-0ubuntu3. When searching for a string that contains one or more spaces, deskbar- applet does not include the space characters as part of the search string. This has various effects on the deskbar-applet plug-ins. For instance, the gnome-dictionary plug-in opens a separate dictionary window for each term that is separated by a space instead of searching for that exact phrase in the dictionary (e.g. searching for Et cetera opens two instances of gnome-dictionary, one for Et and one for cetera but neither window displays the correct definition.) The gnome-search-tool plug-in is also affected. Using deskbar-applet to search for the string free as in freedom results in only one instance of gnome-search-tool that searches for free. [Bug 45525] error messages for missing panel icons are numerous and continuously reopened throughout session
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel I am running Dapper Drake testing and have seven launchers on the panel each with a custom icon. The pictures that I use for the icons are files that are shared from another computer on my network. When the computer serving the pictures is offline and I start my session, the panel opens seven error dialogs--one for each missing icon--that each must be closed one by one. What's worse is that these seven error messages are repeatedly reopened while I am working. I assume this occurs each time the panel attempts to refresh its icon cache (which is probably another bug in itself). I think that the panel should either avoid displaying any error messages for missing icons or display only a single error message (for all icons and panels) that appears only once when the session begins and reads something to the effect of Could not load one or more icons. The former suggestion would not result in a silent error because launchers would visually alert the user of a problem since they switch to a default icon when the custom icon cannot be found. The alternative suggestion would still require interaction with an inefficient user interface (a dialog that offers no choices yet must be closed manually) but it would be more efficient than the current situation which requires the user to wade through multiple, tedious error messages. ** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed -- error messages for missing panel icons are numerous and continuously reopened throughout session https://launchpad.net/bugs/45525 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 40852] volume control applet icon changes when panel is resized
Public bug reported: Affects: tango-icon-theme (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: I'm running Dapper testing and have tango-icon-theme 0.7.1-0ubuntu3 installed. When the panel is resized and the Tango icon theme is active, the icon for the volume applet changes from a PNG icon to an SVG icon. Currently the PNG audio volume icons in the tango-icon-theme package differ in appearance from the SVG audio volume icons in the same package. I do not think that it is visually appealing or intuitive to a user for an applet's icon to change appearance when its panel is being resized. Ideally, the icon's appearance should remain the same but it should scale with the panel. If the PNG and SVG icons in the Tango theme are meant to be visually distictive then this bug is actually with the Volume applet or the panel itself (the applet's icon should not switch between a theme's SVG and PNG icons). However, if the PNG and SVG icons in a theme are supposed to look the same then this bug is with tango-icon-theme and the following icons are affected: /usr/share/icons/Tango/scalable/status/audio-volume-high.svg /usr/share/icons/Tango/scalable/status/audio-volume-low.svg /usr/share/icons/Tango/scalable/status/audio-volume-medium.svg /usr/share/icons/Tango/scalable/status/audio-volume-muted.svg /usr/share/icons/Tango/scalable/status/stock_volume-max.svg /usr/share/icons/Tango/scalable/status/stock_volume.svg /usr/share/icons/Tango/scalable/status/stock_volume-min.svg /usr/share/icons/Tango/scalable/status/stock_volume-med.svg /usr/share/icons/Tango/scalable/status/stock_volume-0.svg /usr/share/icons/Tango/scalable/status/stock_volume-mute.svg /usr/share/icons/Tango/16x16/status/audio-volume-high.png /usr/share/icons/Tango/16x16/status/audio-volume-low.png /usr/share/icons/Tango/16x16/status/audio-volume-medium.png /usr/share/icons/Tango/16x16/status/audio-volume-muted.png /usr/share/icons/Tango/16x16/status/stock_volume-max.png /usr/share/icons/Tango/16x16/status/stock_volume.png /usr/share/icons/Tango/16x16/status/stock_volume-min.png /usr/share/icons/Tango/16x16/status/stock_volume-med.png /usr/share/icons/Tango/16x16/status/stock_volume-0.png /usr/share/icons/Tango/16x16/status/stock_volume-mute.png /usr/share/icons/Tango/22x22/status/audio-volume-high.png /usr/share/icons/Tango/22x22/status/audio-volume-low.png /usr/share/icons/Tango/22x22/status/audio-volume-medium.png /usr/share/icons/Tango/22x22/status/audio-volume-muted.png /usr/share/icons/Tango/22x22/status/stock_volume-max.png /usr/share/icons/Tango/22x22/status/stock_volume.png /usr/share/icons/Tango/22x22/status/stock_volume-min.png /usr/share/icons/Tango/22x22/status/stock_volume-med.png /usr/share/icons/Tango/22x22/status/stock_volume-0.png /usr/share/icons/Tango/22x22/status/stock_volume-mute.png /usr/share/icons/Tango/24x24/status/audio-volume-high.png /usr/share/icons/Tango/24x24/status/audio-volume-low.png /usr/share/icons/Tango/24x24/status/audio-volume-medium.png /usr/share/icons/Tango/24x24/status/audio-volume-muted.png /usr/share/icons/Tango/24x24/status/stock_volume-max.png /usr/share/icons/Tango/24x24/status/stock_volume.png /usr/share/icons/Tango/24x24/status/stock_volume-min.png /usr/share/icons/Tango/24x24/status/stock_volume-med.png /usr/share/icons/Tango/24x24/status/stock_volume-0.png /usr/share/icons/Tango/24x24/status/stock_volume-mute.png -- volume control applet icon changes when panel is resized https://launchpad.net/bugs/40852 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

When local it opens perfectly in totem. Nautilus displays that the XCF file from the Ubuntu example-content directory is associated with gimp when viewing the file properties via an SMB network share. Gimp starts when it is double-clicked however gimp displays an error message. I suspect that this is a separate bug with gimp and VFS. Nautilus displays that a WMA (windows media audio) file is not associated with any applications when viewing the file properties via an SMB network share and Nautilus displays an error message when the file is double-clicked unless the file is copied locally. When the file is local, Nautilus displays that the file is associated with gxine, totem, and mplayer with totem set as the default. When local the file opens perfectly with totem. When the file is local, Nautilus displays that the file is associted with abiword and gedit with gedit set as the default. When local the file opens as expected. I'm sure that GNOME developers have their reasons for the current implementation but it sure would be nice if VFS worked as a transparent backend that automatically copies files somewhere locally (e.g. /tmp or ~/Desktop) and would therefore allow any application to open a file on a network share whether the application is VFS-aware or not. Or maybe a better solution would be for GNOME to automatically mount network shares so that they can be accessed by any program like any other filesystem. In any case, files should open consistently for the user regardless of whether they are local or not. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 33639] serpentine does not remember window size
Public bug reported: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/33639 Affects: serpentine (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: I'm running Ubuntu Dapper Drake testing and have Serpentine 0.6.91 installed. Since Serpentine operates in a spatial manner (automatically saves the playlist), I believe that it should automatically save the main window's size as well. I don't know whether or not it is a good idea for Serpentine to automatically remember the window's position. It may be better to leave the position of the window up to the window manager but I'm not certain. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 33224] number pad operator keys not always recognized by gcalctool
Public bug reported: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/33224 Affects: gcalctool (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: I'm using Dapper Drake testing (Flight 4 + updates) and Gcalctool, the GNOME calculator v5.7.30. The operator keys on the number pad (plus, minus, multiply divide) are only recognized by gcalctool when the number lock is enabled in contrast with the digit, decimal and Enter keys on the number pad from which input is always accepted despite the state of the number lock. I propose that the calculator should always accept input from the number pad operator keys regardless of whether the number lock is on or off. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 32545] gnome-cups-manager suggests wrong driver for HP Deskjet 930C

[Bug 32308] gedit text editor does not handle documents containing one tab correctly

[Bug 32308] gedit text editor does not handle documents containing one tab correctly
Public bug reported: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/32308 Affects: gedit (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: I'm running Dapper Drake testing (Flight 4 + updates). The current version of gedit is 2.13.91. Steps to reproduce: Start gedit to create a new document. Look at the print preview. The header says Page 1 of 1. Now close the print preview and type a single tab character in the document. Look at the print preview again. It now says Page 1 of 0. Print the document to a file via PDF output and open the PDF file with Evince. There is a rectangle visible where the (invisible) tab character was typed. Also, the header still says Page 1 of 0. I tried to print the document containing one tab character to my local, USB-connected HP Deskjet 940c printer but the printer did nothing. Perhaps someone else could confirm this so I know it's not a problem with CUPS or my printer setup. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 31601] default playlist format when creating new playlists in Serpentine
Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/31601 Comment: No offense taken. I am happy to offer suggestions but I respect that you have a clear idea of the direction that Serpentine should take. There is still the original issue at hand. If the default action when saving playlists is to Detect by extension and the user does not enter a file extension, how can Serpentine spare the user of an error message yet get the job done smoothly? If you don't want Serpentine to pick a playlist format automatically, here is another suggestion: If the format is set to Detect by extension and the user enters a filename with an unknown extension or without any extension, Serpentine can display a window which asks the user to specify a format and has three buttons labeled MP3 Playlist File (.m3u), PLS Audio Playlist (.pls), and XML Shareable Playlist Format (.xspf). This additional window will only be displayed in circumstances where the error dialogue appears now. It allows the user to get the job done with only one click instead of having to click Close on the error message and then change the filename or click twice on the dropdown list to pick an extension followed by another click on the save button. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 20592] Multiple sounds when clicking buttons
Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/20592 Comment: This can be reproduced with gnome-font-properties by clicking any radio button in the main window or any radio button in the Font Rendering Details window. Multiple sounds can also be heard when opening the window to edit the current profile in gnome-terminal by clicking Edit Current Profile... in the context menu or by clicking Current Profile... under the Edit menu. Nautilus will also reproduce it when clicking on the Back, Forward, or Up buttons to navigate the filesystem. Also, clicking on the navigation buttons directly under the toolbar reproduces it as well. gnome-default-applications-properties will reproduce the bug when clicking any of the dropdown lists or radio buttons on either the Internet or System tab. gnome-network-preferences will reproduce the bug when clicking any radio buttons on the Proxy Configuration tab. It is reproduced in epiphany when clicking on any of the radio buttons that change the cookie settings in the Preferences window. Those are all that I know about at the moment. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 31612] do not show message dialogue after successfully saving playlist
Public bug reported: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/31612 Affects: serpentine (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: I'm running Serpentine v0.6.9.0 in Dapper Drake (testing). Upon sucessfully saving a playlist, Serpentine displays a dialogue window informing the user of this fact. There is little use for a dialogue window that does not ask the user a question or offer a choice. This window only serves to distract the user with an unecessary button click so I recommend that it be removed. There are other ways that Serpentine could convey whether or not the playlist is currently saved such as using the playlist filename in the titlebar of Serpentine's main window. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 31598] delayed mouse button release causes menus to close
Public bug reported: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/31598 Affects: gtk+2.0 libgtk2.0-0 (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: I'm running Dapper Drake (testing). After depressing the mouse button on a menu the menu is opened and displayed as expected. If the mouse button is released within a short frame of time the menu remains visible. However, if there is a delay ( anything longer than 1 second on my system) between when the mouse button is pressed and when the mouse button is released then the menu disappears. This anomaly seems to occur with every application that utilizes GTK+ including the GNOME panel. It also affects context menus. Besides occurring when there is a delay of input from the user, this situation can also arise on older hardware and/or on systems that are under heavy load. I propose that menus should remain open until the user explicitly provides input (mouse click, key press, etc.). Not only do I believe that this will help to achieve better usability but it will also allow GTK+ programs to act more consistently with other non-GTK+ programs that ship with Ubuntu (e.g. Mozilla Firefox and OpenOffice.org). -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 31601] default playlist format when creating new playlists in Serpentine
Public bug reported: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/31601 Affects: serpentine (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: I'm running Serpentine v0.6.9.0 in Dapper Drake (testing). When I attempt to save a playlist, Serpentine has no playlist format selected by default. Instead it has Detect by extension selected. This is extremely technical for the average user. If one tries to create a playlist called CD Project 1, an error message occurs with the following Unsupported Format: The playlist format you used (by the file extension) is currently not supported. Serpentine should automatically do the right thing when a user tries to save a playlist. There should be no extension required from the user and I am inclined to think that there should not even be a playlist format option in the save dialog as it overly complicates the playlist saving process. At the very least, Serpentine should automatically select a file format when the user does not provide a file extension in the filename. As far as which file format should be used by default, I am unsure which to propose. Two requisites I can think of for the default file format are that Serpentine should be capable of opening that format and the format should be an open, non-patent-encumbered standard. Interoperability is another factor to consider when selecting a default format for Serpentine to use. If a user creates several playlists with Serpentine then he or she may eventually wish to open those playlists with Totem or Rhythmbox as well. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
