2024-04-08 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
OK, it's likely caused by mutter upgrade, but let's make sure that's the
case. Can you please downgrade the mutter to verify the old version
works?

Please run `sudo apt install libmutter-10-0=42.9-0ubuntu5 mutter-
common=42.9-0ubuntu5 gir1.2-mutter-10=42.9-0ubuntu5` to downgrade
related packages.

[Bug 2051074] [NEW] Mirror mode doesn't work when panel only supports one refresh rate with reduced blanking

2024-01-23 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
On systems equipped with reduced blanking panel, mirror mode can result to no
image on external monitor.
The reason is due to current fallback modes don't have pixelclock for reduced
blanking, so inadequate refresh rate is used to mode set, and result with
atomic commit failure.

[Fix]
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/merge_requests/3449
Add reduced blanking (RB) to fallback modes, so mutter can use RB mode to meet
pixelclock requirement in order to pick the right refresh rate.

[Test]
Connect an external monitor to affected system. Use the monitor hotkey to
switch to mirror mode or use GNOME control center to choose mirror mode. With
the patch included, the issue is no longer observed.

[Where problems could occur]
The modelines of reduced blanking have reversed Hsync and Vsync flags, so if
the driver doesn't handle those flags correctly, the atomic modeset/commit may
fail.

I haven't observe any issue on Intel/AMD/Nvidia GPU so far.

Similar to Focal, observed two KEY_RKFILL in `libinput debug-events` on

[Bug 1917010] Re: Hard to detect double-clicks on the HiDPI touchscreen system

2021-07-16 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Yes, I will accomplish the testing and verification.

However, gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons gets uninstalled on Impish
because the gnome-shell in -proposed breaks gnome-shell-extension-
desktop-icons (<< 21.04).

** Description changed:

+ == SRU Justification ==
+ [Impact]
+ Double tap desktop icons on a touchscreen barely works.
+
+ [Fix]
+ Because tapping isn't as precise as clicking, ignore the double click
distance as long as the icon is tapped.
+
+ [Test]
+ Roughly double tap the desktop icon and nothing happens.
+ After applying the fix, double tap can 100% open the app or directory.
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+ If the new code throws any exception, clicking can also be affected.
+
+ == Original Bug Report ==

[Bug 1936303] [NEW] [SRU] Debounce multiple rfkill events

2021-07-15 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
Some laptops can generate multiple rfkill events from a single key press.

[Fix]
Commit f4dbcf3d7b0f951fe44b29229206c97b625dbfda ("media-keys: Add one second
delay between each rfkill event").
The commit adds a delay between each rkfill events to only process the first
event and debounce the later ones.

[Test]
On HP ZBook G7, use `libinput debug-events` to observe there are two rfkill
events on single key press. Airplane mode will be enabled and disabled in a
very short period, so the airplane mode cannot be turned off by the hotkey
anymore.

After applying the fix, pressing airplane mode hotkey can enable or
disable airplane mode correctly.

[Where problems could occur]
Since the delay is hardcoded as 1 second, the airplane mode cannot be switched
on/of in a very short time anymore.

[Bug 1905825] [NEW] [SRU] Disable CRTCs when system becomes headless

2020-11-26 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
On new Intel SoCs, after all connectors are unplugged and the system becomes
headless, it cannot detect monitor hotplug event from type-c port.

[Fix]
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/merge_requests/1561

Based on "drm/i915 Intel GFX Driver, Hotplug" [1]:
"Finally, the userspace is responsible for triggering a modeset upon receiving
the hotplug uevent, disabling or enabling the crtc as needed."

[Test]
Unplug type-c monitor from an Intel Tiger Lake desktop. Replug the monitor
back, monitor is blank.
With the fix applied, the system can detect monitor again.

[Where problems could occur]
This fix disables CRTCs when there's no monitor, if driver has trouble dealing
with it, we may see something break.

[Bug 1878351] Re: System shutdown directly by pressing power button and releasing immediately on Dell Vostro 5301

2020-06-16 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
A debounce delay just doesn't sound right.

If a user press the power button twice and the kernel dutifully reports
two events, why a debounce is required when there are _actual_ two
events?

If there's a race between gsd and gnome-session, proper ordering should
be imposed, instead of adding a delay to workaround the race.

[Bug 1842865] Re: Xubuntu 18.04 sometimes freezes when turned on on logo

2019-10-17 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Would it be possible for you to do a kernel bisection?

First, find the last good -rc kernel and the first bad -rc kernel from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/

Then,
$ sudo apt build-dep linux
$ git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git
$ cd linux
$ git bisect start
$ git bisect good $(the good version you found)
$ git bisect bad $(the bad version found)
$ make localmodconfig
$ make -j`nproc` deb-pkg
Install the newly built kernel, then reboot with it.
If the issue still happens,
$ git bisect bad
Otherwise,
$ git bisect good
Repeat to "make -j`nproc` deb-pkg" until you find the commit that causes the
regression.

It use different method to reboot.

But if it's a regression (once worked on 4.15), can you please perform a
kernel bisection?
