If it won't break anything (which seems to be the case) we're happy to
include it.

It shouldn't break freeciv on other systems, because Jacob's patch
 (http://gna.org/bugs/download.php?file_id=13612) checks whether
'ubuntu- local' is a supported property before using it. If you're
willing to add that to the freeciv packaging next time you update it
in Debian, I can sync us back to your version. And hopefully it will
 land upstream too.

I had a problem with this applying in our 2.2.7, but i'll have another
go at it later and see if i can work out what (i) broke.

@Karl: I tried your 2.2.7 PPA freeciv-client-gtk package on my Natty
live CD, and when launched from the start-menu-equivalent it correctly
disabled the global menu, and the diplomacy UI was accessible. When
launched as freeciv or freeciv-gtk2 from the command-line, global
menu was used; it looks like you used the .desktop fix, so that's
expected. It otherwise seemed to work as far as I tested it (which
 wasn't very far).

Thats good to hear.

However, it looks like the .desktop Unity workaround will be
 superseded by Michael's work.

Seems so, would have been good to know someone else was working on it;
could have spent the afternoon doing something else.

[...]

However, it seems quite likely that we won't release another 2.2.x in
the Oneiric timeframe, and any patch almost certainly won't go in
2.3.0 either (unless something else goes wrong with the RC). So it'll
probably be necessary for you to apply the patch in your packaging.

We haven't released 2.2.7 in debian yet, if the patch that Michael
wrote applies cleanly to that we could include it.

I'll make sure that clean patches against both 2.2.7 and 2.3.0 are
available, so that you have the choice of which version to put in
Oneiric. The patch can be removed for Predictable Penguin :)

hopefully 2.2.7 can still make it into oneiric by sync request, so let
me know if you'd like us to get it uploaded.

 Hopefully we shouldn't need Michael's Freeciv disable-global-menu
patch for a new version, as my patch + his Gtk fix should make it all
 play nicely for Oneiric.

[Bug 50669] Evolution opens MicroSoft Office .doc files read only

2006-06-22 Thread KarlGoetz
Public bug reported:

In Debian Sarge (OpenOffice.org 1.1.x) when someone opened a .doc
file from an email in Evolution it would open in OpenOffice Read/write, and
changes could be made to the page layout (letter- a4 etc) before printing.

In Ubuntu Dapper (OpenOffice.org 2.0.2, Evo 2.6) that no longer occurs.
Docs now open read only.

This makes some things (like changing paper format from US Letter to A4) a
/lot/ more complex then it needs to be.
If this could be fixed to open docs read/write and backported to Dapper it
would rock :)

2006-06-15 Thread KarlGoetz
I just had a thought.
This could actualy be a GTK issue, as i have issues with Firefox when i have
over a dozen tabs open, and a few misc issues around the place.
Think it could be a GTK problem, or am i way off course?

[Bug 45562] [gaim1.5 and 2beta]100% cpu useage when over a dozen tabs are open

2006-05-19 Thread KarlGoetz
Public bug reported:

Using gaim 1.5 and 2 beta, i have a problem where the more tabs are open
the more cpu useage goes up. half a dozen tabs its negligable, but at
12-18 tabs resizing the chat window or simply talking results in 100%
cpu usage. This happens on 2 boxes, and is repeatable but not a crash as
such.

I'm connected to ircx3, msn, icq, jabberx2,google talk.
Whats even more annoying is that after the first line of text the cpu usage
drops right off untill you send that message, and then its 100% (or lots) again.

followed me through 2 installs on one machine. I dont have anything
(like xgl/dual head) going on the computer i use for chat currently.
I switched to clearlooks (plain switch, not log in/out), and it still
happens. there was almost nothing visible cpu useage wise at 7 irc tabs,
but at 9 it was quite clear.

The ones with active tabs are freenode and gnome.org. disabling oftc
didnt seem to make much difference.

Public bug reported:

Affects: ubuntu-artwork (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
I dont feel that having flags on these menu items is apropriate.
Many people will disagree with the choice of flags from a personalisation point
of view (why do only USA and Germany get flags there, why isnt it
localised?), and many from a political perspective.
To many people the USA's and Germany's flags are things they would rather not
see again.
I'm asking that the flags be made some sort of colours only, without logos, or
the graphic changed entirely.

Its not MSN as such - its any protocol.
While i can log in as 'away', i cant stop it connecting in the first
place - something i do quite a bit. I dont always want to be contactable

Description:

easy to do, but now i cant see an option for it at all. I have the
'gaim-irchelper 0.12-5' installed on this box, and i still cant see
anything.

Because I cant add channels to my buddy list, i am unable to add them to
autojoin (meaning gaim is essentialy useless for irc atm). Gaim *is*
however, using the autojoins i used to have in 1.5, so i know it can do
it.

I have reproduced this bug, and if you rename a directory untitled folder to
.test it holds the old name.
I did the test on my desktop, and a log out is required to refresh the
'directory'.
if you double click untitled folder it opens with teh path Desktop/.test .
press up (a level) and look - its hidden in nautilus but still visible on the
desktop.
