For me a reboot seems to have cleared the problem. After posting, I realized that I hadn't rebooted since the problem began. After rebooting, I can't trigger the problem any more. This is now affecting me. It just began to happen yesterday. I am running Maverick with the latest updates. Same thing, log in, see my screen for less than a second, the screen goes black.
