I can add that I had no problems with nautilu 'til 2-3 days ago. Afte
upgrade to 12.04 everything was OK but it changed few days ago. So maybe
it's result of some updated package/library?

[Bug 1021375] Re: Nautilus says the USB stick is read only when it is not

2012-08-15 Thread Leszek
I came across patched Nautilus from SoluOS project, installed it in few
easy steps described here:

http://www.webupd8.org/2012/08/install-solusos-patched-nautilus-in-
ubuntu-1204.html

And now Nautilus work OK :) So it's one of their patches, which solves
the problem :-)

[Bug 971051] Re: no alt+tab in gnome classic session

2012-05-07 Thread Leszek
For me it works the way bluecalvin described. I've also added missing
Alt-F4 for window closing in Windows section.

But remember that there are 2 options for gnome-sesion-fallback - normal
and no efffects. This workaroud is only for no efffects version
(metacity as a window manager). If you use normal mode (compiz as a
window manager) you need to use CCSM workaround.

Anyway IMHO it's a bug since it should be enabled by default in both
scenarios.

[Bug 447362] [NEW] dual screen setup: adding applets in the secondary screen fails

2009-10-09 Thread Leszek Koltunski
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Dual screen setup ( no xinerama, just 2 X screens ): if I try ( in the
secondary screen ) to add an applet to the panel, first the list of
applets correctly pops up in the secondary screen. But then when I
choose any of them ( I tried at least 5 ) and click the 'Add' button,
nothing will happen. The 'list of applets' dialog stays on the screen,
the 'add' button keeps being pressed, and the applet does not get added
in the panel ( neither the one in the primary nor the one in the
secondary screen )

2008-05-04 Thread Leszek

latest package linux-image-2.6.24-17 (from hardy-proposed). I've both
packages installed and /etc/init.d/gdm without any modyfications. And
it's 100% repeatable - when I boot 2.6.24-16 everything is OK (I've full
usplash shutdown screen with working progress bar) but when I boot
2.6.24-17 everything is as in bug report.

So disable hardy-proposed updates section or be prepared for another

[Bug 225384] Re: usplash_down call missing in stop routine of /etc/init.d/gdm initscript

2008-05-03 Thread Leszek
1. This is duplicate of bug 159262

2. Generally splash_down should be called from initramfs so adding it to
gdm script is really only a partial solution.

3. For my fully working sollution was installing package
startupmanager, then set resolution of screen (1024x768 in my case)
and color depth (24 bits in my case) on Startup Options tab, hit
Close and now everything is working again.

[Bug 159262] Re: gdm doesn't call usplash_down

2008-05-03 Thread Leszek
I've had the same behaviour after upgrading from Gutsy to Hardy
(everything was OK in Gutsy). But I've found solution for this -
installed package startupmanager, then set resolution of screen
(1024x768 in my case) and color depth (24 bits in my case) on Startup
Options tab, hit Close and now everything is back again.

I also tried first workaround from Geoff Goehle but for me it showed
only statis usplash screen without any movement in progress bar (only
border). But my solution gives me whole functionality (fully-working
progress bar).

I can also add that generally splash_down should be called from
initramfs so adding it to gdm script is really only a partial solution.

Two different implementations were made after my initial patch so I consider
this bug report as obsolete.
Closing as Invalid.
For the bug appearing in hardy, you can go there :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-volume-manager/+bug/205414

It probably won't work soon because I noticed that some code moved from
gnome-volume-manager to nautilus and I saw this in the code:

} else if (_check_file (root, autorun.exe, TRUE)) {
/* TODO */
} else if (_check_file (root, AUTORUN.EXE, TRUE)) {
/* TODO */
} else if (_check_file (root, autorun.inf, FALSE)) {

} else if (_check_file (root, AUTORUN.INF, FALSE)) {

Utility provided by Troels Faber has also functionality to change keyring
password so you can use it to do it. I don't understand why it has been

BTW you're lucky that everything works for you on clean install. I'll
install new system in few days so I can chceck it myself.

I had exactly the same bug on my newly installed Gutsy machine. Just
fresh install and at every reboot I was asked for password to unlock
keyring to establish wireless connection. I spend few hours digging
solution and nothing helped. Finally I've found this page and WOW.
pam-keyring-tool provided by Troels Faber works also for me so thanks
for it!

IMHO it's very serious bug since it's impossible to setup Ubuntu 7.10 to
automatically login and connect to a wifi network upon reboot. This
should be fixed very quickly - just take a look at many web pages with
discussions how to enable this feature, which was working in Feisty but
is broken in Gutsy.

[Bug 137247] Re: libpam-keyring broken on autologins

2007-12-04 Thread Leszek
So until it's fixed you can use pam-keyring-tool provided above by
Troels Faber. Just put it in some folder (let's say /usr/local/bin),
create small script (I created /usr/local/bin/un_lock ) with 2 simple
lines:

#!/bin/sh
echo YOUR_PASSWORD | /usr/local/bin/pam-keyring-tool -u -s

Then do sudo chmod +x /usr/local/bin/un_lock /usr/local/bin/pam-
keyring-tool

Finally under System--Preferences--Sessions create new session with
command /usr/local/bin/un_lock .

This way it works perfectly for me.

BTW if you use suspend/hibernate and want you connection to be restored
after it, create 2 scripts described in
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/NetworkManager in Suspend
support section.

I hope this bug will be fixed ASAP because IMHO it's highest priority
for standard home notebook users.

2007-12-04 Thread Leszek
It's obvious for me that it's only workaround and only for home users
for which simplicity is key feature. So you have temporary solution and
choice to do it or not.

I personally have done it on my wife's notebook since it's simple
environment used by her only a home, without any sensitive data. For her
to have comfort that everything works as expected and no strange
messages appear is most important thing about computer usage.

So one again - yes, it's dirty workaround BUT you have choice to do it
or not.

you have the feisty repositories for the binary packages but you still have the
edgy repositories for the source packages.
You should change all instances of edgy in your source.list file to feisty.

In fact I learned there is an easier way to have the packages with debugging
information than to compile from source. Follow the instruction here:

to install nautilus-sendto-dbgsym and create a backtrace and a valgrind report.

[Bug 114476] Re: Nautilus-sendto crashes

2007-05-13 Thread Hanusz leszek
Thanks for your bug report.

Could you compile the package from source with debugging on to have more
information about the bug ?

Go to system-administration-update sources and enable the source code
repositories
#create new directory and go inside in a terminal
apt-get source nautilus-sendto
#enter the created directory and run:
sudo apt-get install libgtk2.0-dev libgconf2-dev libglade2-dev
libnautilus-extension-dev build-essential gdb
./configure --enable-debug --prefix=/usr
make
#go then in the src directory and run:
gdb ./nautilus-sendto
#it should give you a gdb prompt. enter:
run hal.txt
#the program run and produce the segmentation fault, enter:
bt

then paste the result you obtained.
