[Bug 1961523] [NEW] Removable media is separarted from nautilus
Public bug reported: Upon opening inserted USB stick with nautilis using notification window or directly in nautilus window the dot in the dock appears next to the USB stick icon and not the file manager icon. This is different from default GNOME behaviour that displays the dot next to the file manager icon regardless of the location opened. For one thing, to have a dot next to USB device is good in terms that it indicates clearly that the device is mounted. On the other hand, this is very confusing as the dot jumps from file manager icon to the USB stick icon in the dock back and forth simply by changing location in the same nautilus window. The very first time that happened I just lost my nautilus window with the USB stick location opened and could not find it until I hit the Super key to call the Activities menu. It took me a while to figure out that my nautilus window had been detached from file manager and re-attached to the USB stick icon in the dock. Since it is the nautilus process owning the removable media, and the window the user interacts with belongs to nautilus app, I would expect the dock to comply with the GNOME behaviour and to display the dots corresponding to nautilus windows next to the file manager icon, and not jump them around. Public bug reported: In Wayland session using Super+ number key does not switch to the window if the app is not pinned to the dock. [Bug 1568410] Re: Double-clicking .desktop file makes nautilus show bogus file
Thank you Sebastien for pointing this out. My understanding is that as of now the old version of nautilus is paired with new GNOME desktop, making this bug specific to Ubuntu. There is no problem with native GNOME desktop or the Ubuntu 14.04 so I am not sure what upstream is supposed to work on. I'm afraid that mixing GNOME software is specific to Ubuntu, and the bug is the result of that integration. Correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway, the upstream bug report follows: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=764891 Thank you for your time an co-operation. And, is there a way to integrate the two bug report systems I wonder so that to make it a sort of "Report to Bugzilla" button for Launchpad bugs? ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #764891 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=764891 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1568410 Title: Double-clicking .desktop file makes nautilus show bogus file To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1568410/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1568410] [NEW] Double-clicking .desktop file makes nautilus show bogus file
Public bug reported: When double-clicking a .desktop file in nautilus, bogus file briefly appear and the original .desktop file "jerks" because of that. This behaviour is quite annoying. Try unpacking tor browser bundle for instance, navigate to tor-browser-en-US directory in nautilus and double-click Tor Browser icon (the .desktop file). The file briefly appears, marked as no read/write access (the little lock and cross icons attached). I could not catch it with screen capture to see what it was but you could see it for yourself. I believe that this is a temp file. To verify, follow the steps below. 1. Make sure nautilus is configured to hide hidden files and that you can reproduce the bug as has been described to this point 2. Leave nautilus window open, launch terminal and create a file named .HIDDEN in tor-browser-en-US directory (the directory active in nautilus) 3. Double-click Tor Browser icon once again in nautilus Now you should be able to see the file in question and look up its properties in nautilus (see attached screen shot) 4. Return to the terminal and run 'ls -la' command to see that the file isn't really present in the directory. 5. Refresh nautilus window with F5 button to return to normal I believe this behaviour in nautilus is wrong but have no idea how to fix it. Any idea? Public bug reported: I record DVBT2 TV shows as a set of two files, one is the .ts MPEG4 transport stream and the other is .dvr binary file containing EPG program description. On my Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS desktop those are recognized as follows. Program description .dvr files are mapped to video/mpeg in Nautilus, while file(1) command reports them as MPEG sequence, v2, program multiplex. The only exception is info.dvr file not specific to any program and used by the TV set, which is mapped correctly to application /octet-stream in Nautilus and is reported as data by file(1) command. [Bug 816669] Re: encrypted-home support in new user dialog
The problem still exisy in Precise. I'd say don't bother with swap encryption and hybernation related issues, as it is way too complicated. After all, what we do here is create a new user and it's home directory if required. There is no need to look beyond this, and any provisions beyond user home encryption are inappropriate and are not expected, really. [Bug 921145] [NEW] Brasero: no way to change default destination when creating disk image
Public bug reported: When burning a project to an image file on disk, there is no way to change default destination path. It is always set to $HOME/brasero.iso for data project, $HOME/brasero.cue for audio project etc. There simply may be no room under user home directory or the user may prefer to change the default destination path for one reason or another. It is pretty standard for an application to allow the user to choose destination for the resulting output. The same applies to the working temporary directory which defaults to /tmp. I do not have enough room in /tmp which is mounted as tmpfs on my system, and have no good reason to grow its size. While default temporary dir can be easily changed using gconf-editor, this is not user friendly. Some sort of preferences dialogue would be useful in this case. Next, I fed nfs://nfsserver/share path into Nautilus and it said that nfs:// URI was not supported. I do have nfs-common package installed and can mount NFS shares using 'sudo mount nfsserver:/share /mnt' command in the terminal. It would be really nice to have support for mounting NFS shares in Nautilus/GNOME though. [Bug 260492] Re: opening a directory using an application change associations incorrectly
I hit the exact same problem when performing clean 9.10 Karmic install preserving my home directory. I had 7.04, 8.04, 8.10 and 9.04 clean installations before with no problems. Double-clicking folders on the desktop would open them implying there was an application registered for folder mime type. The places menu entries however did not work as per this bug report. Had to right-click on a folder, select open with another program... and then to pick nautilus as default application to open this and other files of type folder to fix this issue. I am not sure if the problem occurred right after install or after tracker installation and removal (and then I have manually removed ~/.config/tracker file as well). It may worth to look at tracker app as a potential source of a problem, as it was installed on earlier versions of Ubuntu by default, and is supposed to index files and folders so it could possibly affect mimetype list somehow. Having said that, I never had a problem like this until upgrading to Karmic. -- opening a directory using an application change associations incorrectly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/260492 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 370999] Re: reports 0% until finished, also slowly burning at speed 0.3x or 0.5x
The correct path would be: ~/.gconf/apps/brasero/config/priority/%gconf.xml Edit the file with values mentioned above. To me, Brasero using wodim burns unreadable DVDs (wodim 9:1.1.9-1ubuntu1 64-bit). -- reports 0% until finished, also slowly burning at speed 0.3x or 0.5x https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/370999 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 376568] [NEW] [Jaunty] nautilus displays wrong file type if extention present
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus Ubuntu Jauty 9.04 x86_64 kernel 2.6.28-11-generic, nautilus version 1:2.26.2-0ubuntu2 Nautilus misjudges file type with incorrect extention. To reproduce: 1. Save a text file with .txt extention, and HTML page with .html extention. So far, so good. The properties dialogue of Nautilus shows correct MIME type, double-clicking the file opens it in the right application. 2. Rename the files to the different extention, say .rar .tgz .mp4 etc. Nautilus will now display archive icon, will display RAR (or TAR etc. respectively) MIME type, double-click will open files in Ark (or Totem for .mp4) Expected behaviour: no change in displayed icons, MIME type, and default applications for the files. 3. Rename the files so that there is no [known] extention at all. Everything is back to normal. Since file extention means little to none on *nix systems, Nautilus should not rely on known file extention to detect MIME type. Instead, it should always display correct MIME type based on file header (the way file command does), ignoring file extention altogether. ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [Jaunty] nautilus displays wrong file type if extention present https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/376568 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 160264] Re: [nvidia] compiz displays white screen when locked
davidetkarine: When I switch between concurrent user sessions with Ctrl+Alt+F7/F9/etc. (changing virtual consoles) in Ubuntu, no problem whatsoever. White screen results in when the user session is being locked while switching (and that's what Fast User Switch applet is doing). See if you can simulate this type of behaviour on Mandriva. I believe that any screen updates on inactive graphics console will result in white screen when bringing it back to foreground (switching to it) later. -- [nvidia] compiz displays white screen when locked https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/160264 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
