[Bug 434070] [NEW] [Karmic] Totem crashes on exit
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: totem Almost each time I click on the upper right window border close window button while a file (Audio or Video) is being played, Totem freezes and a window telling me the application isn't responding (and asking me if I want to wait or forcefully close Totem) pops up. Totem doesn't closes when I chose to wait till it closes, it always has to be forcefully closed. That bug only seems to appear when a file is playing, if I stop the file from playing I can exit Totem properly. Totem also exits properly when using the shortcut CTRL-Q or using the FilmQuit menu. I've tried recovering a backtrace, and attached it, however gdb doesn't seem to find much info, even though I've got totem-dbgsym installed. When apports starts, it also says it doesn't find enough information to process the bug. [Bug 15495] Re: Archive Manager doesn't mean anything if you don't know what an archive is
I've asked a few non-technical users (mostly Windows users), all were confused by the term compress. They can grasp the extract idea, but unless you're technical or learned to used zip at a time were space was dear (floppies, small hard drives) you'll have no idea what compression can mean on a computer. People I asked had ideas of physically compressing stuff, like hydraulic presses and the stuff, and it never related to any space-saving idea, even less on anything that could make sense in a computer. One also has to note that zip has long been supplanted by RAR on the Windows side (other OS users never really favored zip, which has bad compression ratio). RAR labels the files it produces as _archives_ , not any other term. There's also self-extracting archives on the Windows side, they end by .exe and are called self-extracting _archives_ So my guess is we'd be shooting ourselves in the foot in order to appease a small fraction of our userbase. There might be a better word than archives, but up now that's the only descriptive name people are used to, including on Windows (discarding the ones that only know the files by their extensions in Windows, which we can't do much about, since zip isn't really used any more on the Internet, and RAR, like zip, doesn't mean much for people that don't know those extensions). As for compress, it's far more confusing (you're focusing on the not-so- simple compression process, while for archives people can far more easily grasp the idea that some files are grouped inside a wrapping). Also, when people extract a file, they can clearly see the idea that some files are inside another one - have fun explaining the idea that the same files were also compressed ;) -- Archive Manager doesn't mean anything if you don't know what an archive is https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/15495 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 155776] Re: [Gutsy] Gucharmap doesn't display all the characters properly, even in the Latin script
The problem is still there. There hasn't been any activity in it recently because nobody asked for more information (and IMHO more information isn't really necessary, since anybody can reproduce the bug). The bug description is complete, and the bug can be easily reproduced by any developer willing to look at it. Did you try it yourself (on Gutsy) before wondering if it is still an issue? It actually isn't an issue _for_ _me_, it's an issue for any Ubuntu Gutsy user that open gucharmap. If you don't have Ubuntu, it is easy to reproduce the bug by booting a Gutsy Live CD. You can download Ubuntu Live CD at http://releases.ubuntu.com/ - in this case, you can grab the Live CD at http://releases.ubuntu.com/7.10/ubuntu-7.10-desktop-i386.iso Under Windows, you should be able to burn the iso directly or by using open source programs, but I can't help you because it's not something I really know much. If you don't have a CD recorder, you can request free Ubuntu CD at https://shipit.ubuntu.com/ , but you'll get the newer version. [Bug 32457] Re: [Gutsy] [Regression] gnome-screensaver activates while playing SDL games
Negative. I have had Compiz disabled the day I installed Gutsy (various problem, and no way to get the Exposé-like feature from Feisty's, which was the only function I found useful. The screensaver problem appears whether you are using Compiz or not. -- [Gutsy] [Regression] gnome-screensaver activates while playing SDL games https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/32457 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 155743] [Gutsy] Gnome doesn't detect monitor change from landscape to portrait mode, nor does it offer a way to rotate the video output
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome When I rotate my LCD (Iiyama ProLite B2403WS) from landscape to portrait mode, gnome doesn't rotate the screen accordingly, nor does it offer any way to rotate the screen manually. The LCD maker advertise the fact that the rotation is automaticaly detected under Windows (XPVista) so the screen must be passing an information to the computer). [Bug 155776] [Gutsy] Gucharmap doesn't display all the characters properly, even in the Latin script
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gucharmap Using Gutsy's default character table (Gucharmap 1.10.1) lots of characters, even in the default Latin set arent't displayed properly. [Bug 32457] Re: [Gutsy] [Regression] gnome-screensaver activates while playing SDL games
On Gutsy, the bug is still there even though upstream claims to have fixed it on 2006-07-27 ** Summary changed: - gnome-screensaver activates while playing SDL games + [Gutsy] [Regression] gnome-screensaver activates while playing SDL games ** Description changed: + Gutsy : on final release of Ubuntu 7.10, gnome-screensaver activates + while playing sdl games, like armagetronad. This is a regression from + Edgy and Feisty + + + Following is the original report : I am running a current Dapper as of 22-Feb-06 07:00:00 -0500 I started playing a game, Frozen Bubble, and I was doing rather well, and then the screensaver came on. I couldn't get it to go away without hitting escape several times, exiting Frozen Bubble, losing my progress in the game. --- UPDATED DESCRIPTION: The screensaver activates with many (perhaps all?) SDL games that do not require mouse input to play. Some of these games can remove the screensaver upon moving the mouse, but not all of them, and this is not a solution. It also affects commercial games such as Professor Fizzwizzle that use SDL. If a patch can be added to libsdl, then this should fix all games and apps that use it, avoiding individual patches for every affected game. The patch could go in the keyboard handling routine, although if there's a better place in the code to put it, it might be better to avoid launching the screensaver at all when an SDL game is running. -- [Gutsy] [Regression] gnome-screensaver activates while playing SDL games https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/32457 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 155323] [Gutsy] [Regression] gnome-screensaver activates when using a java aplet in Firefox (with sun-java6-plugin)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver 1. Check you have sun-java6-plugin enabled for Firefox, and set the screensaver to activate after a short period of activity (1 min); 2. Got directly to http://www.goproblems.com/prob.php3?nutrial=1plevel=0.76 or just go to http://www.goproblems.com/ and select one of the difficulty levels on the right to start the java applet. 3. Start playing with the mouse, avoiding clicking outside the applet. After one min of play, the screen turn grey, forcing you to move the mouse frantically to avoid screensaver activation. Bug is reproducible (appears on 2 computers using Gutsy), it's a regression from Feisty. ** Affects: gnome-screensaver (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [Gutsy] [Regression] gnome-screensaver activates when using a java aplet in Firefox (with sun-java6-plugin) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/155323 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gnome-screensaver in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
