[Bug 969359] Re: [keyboard]: gnome-settings-daemon consumes 100% cpu (and blinking numlock)

2012-11-28 Thread Louis Simard
I was subscribed to the duplicate bug 1004166, which is about a
different way to get Num Lock to blink. With the proposed package, that
method to get the bug is also fixed.

[Bug 995269] [NEW] Force Quit icon does not kill anything, nor respond to Esc

2012-05-05 Thread Louis Simard
Public bug reported:

Scenario:

I am using the Gnome Classic no-effects session in Ubuntu Precise. I
added a panel with a Force Quit applet on it. When I click it, the Force
Quit icon brings up a small undecorated window that reads, roughly,
"Click a window to force it to quit, or Esc to cancel". I then click the
window, and the window's owning program is not killed.

Additionally, pressing Esc does not work, and input to my Gnome session
is frozen with the "cross" (+) cursor, without shortcuts available to
switch windows or close the undecorated window, until I issue "killall
gnome-panel" in one of the text-only virtual terminals.

The expected behaviour is of course that the Force Quit applet works :)

[Bug 259485] Re: (bad render) incorrect float parsing in data attribute in tag

2010-06-14 Thread Louis Simard
Exactly; currently there are fixes in librsvg git for one or the other
of these bugs, but not both. The Aisleriot card theme corruption fix...
undoes this one before doing its thing.

There *is* a patch proposed in bug 370061's upstream GNOME counterpart
(by me, but that's irrelevant) to fix both bugs, as well as anything
else that's not to the SVG spec for path parsing in librsvg. But it's
not in git yet.

So until then, I would say this bug should be fixed in preference to the
Paris Aisleriot card theme corruption bug, because Ubuntu doesn't bundle
that card theme.

[Bug 259485] Re: (bad render) incorrect float parsing in data attribute in tag

2010-06-14 Thread Louis Simard
This bug and the one cited in the GNOME bug are mutually exclusive. No
fix covers "incorrect float parsing in path data" *and* "corrupt Paris
Aisleriot card theme" at once. The upstream bug for "corrupt Paris
Aisleriot card theme"
(https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=563933) says that a fix for
"incorrect float parsing in path data" (this bug) made it regress, but
in doing so, GNOME librsvg reacquired the bug "incorrect float parsing
in path data".

Ubuntu's librsvg got the fix for "corrupt Paris Aisleriot card theme"
last week. In doing so, this bug reappeared, and is the very same issue
that has been reported originally in 2008 and fixed.

For a bug that attempts to fix both the Paris Aisleriot card theme being
corrupted, and this bug, please see bug 370061 and mark this one as a
duplicate as appropriate.

Ubuntu Lucid uploaded today a new version of librsvg2-2,

from upstream GNOME:

In the GNOME bug cited above, the patch for this bug is removed in favor

[Bug 370061] Re: SVG not correctly rendered

2010-06-06 Thread Louis Simard
Teej: So it does. However, a second test case for this bug on the GNOME
report fails rendering rather spectacularly, and the failure is due to
code in the same function in librsvg. A patch by Thomas W. in the GNOME
report now fixes the problem for this bug's test case
(Obcine_Slovenija_2006_Crensovci.svg) *and* the GNOME report's test case
(emptytrash.svg). It has good chances to be included upstream if so.

[Bug 505065] [NEW] [lucid] Bad behavior with unreadable files

2010-01-08 Thread Louis Simard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

If a user does not have read permissions for a file s/he is trying to
open, while it is already playing something, Totem becomes unresponsive
to his/her commands until it is closed and restarted.

Prerequisites:

1. Have the package example-content installed, or two media files of your
choosing.
2. Designate one as ReadableFile. Make sure it's readable (chown me:me
ReadableFile; chmod u+r ReadableFile).
3. Designate one as UnreadableFile. Make sure it's NOT readable (chown
root:root UnreadableFile; chmod o-rwx UnreadableFile).

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open Totem.
2. Menu File/Open, choose ReadableFile.
3. Menu File/Open, choose UnreadableFile.
4. Four dialog boxes appear on top of each other, each saying the same thing
about an unreadable file. (Expected: one dialog is enough ;)
5. Menu File/Open, choose ReadableFile.
6. Nothing happens. (Expected: ReadableFile starts playing again)

This also happens if the File menu's recent entries are used to play
UnreadableFile.

After copying an Audio CD via Brasero, the new CD copy does not work. It
tries to read for well over a minute, then gives up. No icon appears in
GNOME, no mount point appears at all, etc. However, the original CD does
function.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Copy an Audio CD via Brasero: insert audio CD in drive, tell Brasero to use
the same drive for the blank CD... and follow the instructions.
2. Use the 'eject' command at a terminal, because the eject button at the front
of the CD-ROM drive does not work (for this, see bug 395814).
3. Reload the same CD in the drive.

dmesg output for when the CD is reloaded (step 3) is attached. I didn't
save the Brasero log for step 1.

* * I have no more blank CDs to test this on, nor do I have any more CD-
RWs. Therefore, I have no choice but to pass the baton for confirming
and investigating this bug to someone else. * *

[Bug 438577] Re: no location data listed when setting clock/weather location.

2009-10-03 Thread Louis Simard
I withdraw my previous comment. The bug didn't disappear. It just so
happened that I triggered the bug before the updates, then reopened
clock preferences afterwards. Re-updating from a fresh re-install,
without editing clock preferences until after the update, still causes
this bug.

This bug can only happen once during an installation, but can appear at
will by restarting the LiveCD.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Choose a location to add, in the form City, Province, Country (or City,
State, Country). I use Montreal, Quebec, Canada for this example. Also trigger
using the bug reporter's location: New Orleans, Lousiana, United States.
2. Right-click the Clock applet.
3. Select Preferences.
4. Switch to the Locations tab.
5. Click Add.
6. Type the first few letters: 'Mont' for Montreal, 'New' for New Orleans.
7. BUG APPEARS HERE.
8. Close Preferences and repeat steps 2 to 6.
9. BUG DOES NOT APPEAR HERE.

7. and 9. should both have this expected behavior: many locations appear
for the prefix you type, such as Montreal, Montmagny, Monte Carlo, etc.

However, the bug is that during step 7, only one unrelated location
appears, and typing further characters from the location you *actually*
want makes everything disappear, leaving a 5-pixel-wide popup without
contents that spans down to the bottom of your screen.

If I can manage to capture a video of this, I will attach it to this
bug.

(P.S. for the steps I wrote in this comment, I ran the Update Manager
between steps 7 and 8.)

[Bug 435657] [NEW] Totem crashes when playing an audio file after a video file with visualizations enabled

2009-09-23 Thread Louis Simard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

When I open SpiritOfUbuntu.ogv from Ubuntu's example-content, let it
play to the end, then play Invocation.ogg, the audio file plays, but no
visualization appears, and then the UI freezes until I close Totem. The
file plays once in the background, even if the Repeat option is set.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open Totem with SpiritOfUbuntu.ogv playing. This can be via the console,
with "totem
/usr/share/example-content/Ubuntu_Free_Culture_Showcase/SpiritOfUbuntu.ogv", or
by double-clicking on the file.
2. Ensure that visualizations are enabled. [Other configuration which may be
relevant: I have all plugins DISabled.]
3. Let the video file play.
4. Open Invocation.ogg.

Workaround: disable visualizations.

[Bug 428998] [NEW] "Play Disc" available for removable media, displays error on use

2009-09-13 Thread Louis Simard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Totem's Movie menu has the options Open and Open Location, under which
options of the type "Play Disc 'LEGALLYBLONDE' (DVD)" appear when discs
are inserted into users' CD-ROM drives. Now, that's all fine and dandy.

However, in Karmic alpha 5, inserting other sorts of removable media,
like USB flash drives, also gives a Play Disc option.

The option, when used, gives the following error dialog:

> The folder contents could not be displayed
> Operation not supported

and presents the user with a "Select Movies or Playlists" window
containing no files. This will heavily confuse a new user.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open Totem.
2. Verify that the Movie menu has no Play Disc options.
3. Insert a USB flash drive, memory card or other removable media which does
not have a DVD-Video or VideoCD directory structure into the computer.
4. Open the Movie menu after the flash drive appears as an icon on the Desktop.
(which requires the automounter to be enabled)
5. Select the "Play Disc '2.0 GB Filesystem'" option or similar from the Movie
menu.

[Bug 428987] [NEW] Disabling visualization while playing audio hangs Totem

2009-09-13 Thread Louis Simard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

While playing an audio file in Totem, if a user goes to
Edit/Preferences, then the Display tab to disable visualizations, Totem
hangs. It continues playing the current file, but Repeat mode cannot be
honored thereafter and the rest of the UI freezes. CPU usage for Totem
is still 0%, so it's probably not an infinite loop anywhere.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Tick Edit/Repeat mode.
2. In Edit/Preferences/Display, make sure a visualization is selected, such as
GOOM, and enabled.
3. Open any audio file.
4. While the file is playing, go to Edit/Preferences/Display again to disable
the visualization.

[Bug 426426] Re: Internal data flow error on opening .mp3 file

2009-09-12 Thread Louis Simard
Confirming, at least for *Totem* on fresh Ubuntu Karmic Alpha 5
installs.

In Ubuntu versions pre-Karmic, opening an MP3 file with Totem opened the
plugin search dialog; in Ubuntu Karmic, this rather cryptic error
appears instead.

Rhythmbox properly handles this with a plugin search. After installing
the GStreamer plugins for audio/mp3, the cryptic error disappears from
Totem.

Now if I could figure out how to assign this bug to Totem-Ubuntu...

2009-05-14 Thread Louis Simard
It's still an issue in Jaunty, whether via the Fast User Switch applet
or via System/Log out/Switch user, with the same steps.

1. Login as User A
2. Switch user to User B
3. Log out of User B
4. (expected) Type User A's password and click Unlock
(actual) Type User A's password and press Shift+Tab, Enter or Meta+U,
because the Unlock button cannot be clicked

[Bug 279994] Re: Clock applet does not display weather until weather applet added

2008-10-13 Thread Louis Simard
If network-manager is a piece of software that attempts to connect to
wired and wireless networks automatically, then yes, I've seen that
process around. And waiting after adding a location did not do
anything... though now the bug seems to be fixed on the laptop even if I
reproduce the steps on a new user.

I guess this bug can be closed.

[Bug 279994] Re: Clock applet does not display weather until weather applet added

2008-10-11 Thread Louis Simard
I've tried all of the Montreal locations (search Montreal -> Saint-
Hubert, Dorval or Mirabel), but usually use Saint-Hubert.

I've also tried Gatwick Airport in London (search Gatwick) to see if it
was a problem with the Montreal locations; the same bug showed up with
it.

[Bug 225974] Re: gnome-screensaver switch user dialog box buttons don't work after logging out

2008-10-10 Thread Louis Simard
This bug occurs to me too, Hardy 32-bit updated.

The workaround is to just press Enter if the button you want to access
is Unlock. But to access the other buttons, the workaround is not so
intuitive: Tab until you get to the button, and Space.

[Bug 279994] Re: Clock applet does not display weather until weather applet added

2008-10-10 Thread Louis Simard
* Is this reproducible?

Yes, always.

* What specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?

1. Perform a fresh installation of Ubuntu 8.04.1 (Hardy) 32-bit on a computer
or virtual machine (or create a new user with a clean home directory on an
existing installation).
2. Upon arriving to the GNOME desktop, right-click the Clock applet on the top
bar and select "Preferences".
3. In the Locations tab, add any single location.
4. In the General tab, check that "Show weather" and "Show temperature" are
ticked.
5. Check that the weather does not appear in the Clock applet.
6. Right-click a free area on the top panel and select "Add to panel...", add a
Weather Report applet.
7. Check that, upon adding the Weather applet, both it and the Clock applet now
update and show the weather correctly.

The expected behavior is that step 5 shows the weather correctly.

[Bug 279994] [NEW] Clock applet does not display weather until weather applet added

2008-10-07 Thread Louis Simard
Public bug reported:

The Clock applet has the ability to show the weather for locations
configured by the user via its Preferences, and it's available without
user intervention on fresh installations' gnome-panels. However, for the
past few weeks it has not worked on my laptop (a fresh Ubuntu 8.04
installation), regardless of the locations I chose and the timezone on
the system.

I then had the brilliant idea of adding a Weather applet to work around
the bug, and lo and behold both the Weather applet and the Clock applet
were now updating and showing the same information. After removing the
Weather applet and leaving the Clock applet, logging out or restarting
etc., the weather stayed in the Clock applet.

Additional information is available upon request, though this seems to
be a software error unrelated to the laptop's hardware configuration,
compiz running etc.

** Affects: gnome-applets (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
