Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.21.
Compiled on Nov 7 2009 for kernel 2.6.31-15-generic (SMP).

Karmic 32 bit upgraded from Jaunty.

The pulseaudio volume control and gnome volume control applet don't
allow me to control the volume coming in from external audio sources
connected to the line-in input. I have to use the old style gnome-alsa-
mixer or command line alsamixer -Dhw:0. The Karmic pulseaudio/gnome
volume control DO allow me to control the capture level from the line-
in, but just not the actual line-in itself. The same applies to the
microphone inputs, however in that case you don't want to hear what is
coming in over the microphone.

With a line-in, you DO want to be able to hear what is coming in. I
think this is a major problem. Should I open a separate bug for this?

[Bug 230749] Re: gnome-screensaver uses too much CPU

2009-02-21 Thread MMarking
Wow, I'm so happy I found this! I had exactly the same problems as you
with VLC and MythTV. I've been spending weeks on this issue blameing
everyone from MythTV, nvidia, Liferea, firefox, Xorg, and pulseaudio...
I even spent time swapping video cards and drivers. My eyes finally
opened up and realized that gnome-screensaver was the number 5 CPU time
on my system, and I don't even use a screensaver. killall gnome-
screensaver is the perfect interim solution to these Xorg CPU spike
problems. Thanks to all that reported, confirmed, and upstream fixed
it. Go Linux!!

In case anyone web searches for this problem in Myth, like I was trying
to do for 2 weeks, if you are having jerky playback in Myth (with Myth's
internal player) and see messages similar to the following when you run
mythfronend -v playback:

NVP: Video is x. frames ahead of audio, doubling video frame
interval to slow down.

NVP: Video is x.x frames behind audio (too slow), dropping frame to
catch up.

If you use a nVidia card with the proprietary drivers, and you're
running Ubuntu with Gnome, then gnome-screensaver is actually what's
causing your problem. killall gnome-screensaver is your friend.

Re: [Bug 197589] Re: Numeric keypad no longer works after upgrade

2008-05-28 Thread MMarking
Hello,

The solution you posted works, temporairly only. For some reason for
me the box gets checked on its own. This is on 2 computers, one
upgraded to Hardy, the other a fresh install of Hardy.

--- Blempis [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

I have two desktop computers. Both upgrades from 7.10 to 8.04 were
painful. Normal internet upgrade failed during the install process
and cd-upgrade's automatic option didn't work either.
A dialog will be displayed offering you the opportunity to upgrade
 using that CD.
 - Ubuntu

If the upgrade dialog is not displayed for any reason, you may also
run the following command using Alt+F2:
Not so straight work flow even here. A message popped up claiming
that cd is not mounted, which it surely was. After remounting system
seemed to hang but the announcement was hidden. It was under all the
other windows but nothing indicated that it even exists.

Next step was to realize that cd-upgrade is defenately not going to
 do
anything nor it is giving any instructions. The lacking piece of
 advise
was that cd should be added to one's download sources. After that and
number of error pop-ups everything seemed to be ok, but my numpad
stopped responding. As I mentioned, all this happened during both
 hardy
 upgrades.

Solution (which is surely not intuitive) was this already mentioned
 one:
1. Go to System Preferences Accessibility Keyboard
 Accessibility
2. Select [x] Enable keyboard accessibility features
3. Go to the tab Mouse Keys and deselect [ ] Enable keyboard
 accessibility features.

 - Ubuntu - rather stable if not upgraded to LTS.

[Bug 197589] Re: Numeric keypad no longer works after upgrade

2008-05-06 Thread MMarking
I'm seeing this issue on a fresh install of Hardy as well as an upgrade
from Gutsy. It's actually worse on the fresh install, the check box
gets ticked intermittently while I'm logged in (i.e. no rebooting
necessary to trigger it). At the present time:

gconftool-2 --get /desktop/gnome/accessibility/keyboard/mousekeys_enable

false

As soon as it happens again I will make another post with the output.
Shouldn't be too long! =)

I upgraded from Gutsy. Disabling the setting allow to control pointer

the setting will be re-enabled. Definitely a bug somewhere here..

[Bug 153193] gnome-panel crashes randomly

2007-10-16 Thread MMarking
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I don't know what's going on but gnome-panel crashes with randomness
every day. I removed the recently-used files and it didn't help.
There is no one thing that I do to make it crash, it just crashes at
random while I am doing things. It crashed a few minutes ago just from
closing an application. The crashes get more frequent after the first
one. A reboot clears the crashes for awhile, but they always come back.
