[Bug 1767817] Re: Full text search does not work
Hi ! I have the same issue as I stated here : https://askubuntu.com/questions/1061855/ubuntu-18-04-and-tracker-files- properly-indexed-but-not-searchable-in-gs-naut 1. I installed tracker 2. I indexed all my data (as indicated on the command line by "tracker status" / "tracker daemon") 3. I checked whether everything was properly indexed by making some queries on the command line based on the content of some text files : the command line "tracker search" command did yield the right results 4. I made the same searches from Nautilus : they yielded no result : Nautilus (and thus the shell) only seem to use the "mlocate" database and not the tracker one. Hypothesis : the fact Ubuntu makes use of Nautilus 3.26 while the rest of the Gnome stack is 3.28 ? Actually, did anyone manage to get Nautilus 3.26 (and thus Gnome Shell with the nautilus search provider) from Ubuntu 18.04 to use the result of the tracker indexing ? I checked all possible settings in dconf- editor and found no relevant option. [Bug 772236] [NEW] Totem hangs when seeking within flac files (gstreamer)
Public bug reported: This issue occurs with Totem but also with any gstreamer-based player (Banshee, Amarok with Phonon-gstreamer), in Natty and not in Maverick. (they also occur in other distros such as Archlinux) HOW TO REPRODUCE : - play flac files - seek a couple of time inside the files - after 2-3 tries, the music stops and the GUI freezes It occurs with many .flac files (made with Banshee), but not all of them. If necessary, I can provide a sample .flac file (but it shouldn't be necessary as it occurs with most of them). [Bug 305546] Re: Nautilus crashing/freezing when opening folder with svg file
I also experience this issue (Ubuntu 10.10, up to date, amd64) when opening a directory containing a svg file embedding many big jpeg pictures. (no tiff at all) Actually, it occurs with 2 similar svg files. The 1st one does embed all jpeg files and the preview doesn't even have the time to be generated. The second one only contains links to the jpeg pictures, so a blank preview is generated. However, *In both cases*, Nautilus eventually quits responding and I have to kill it. It may be a factor, but as I said earlier (what, you didn't reread the 355 comments ? ;-) I managed to reproduce the issue (especially in the bottom panel, next to the show desktop applet) from a clean user profile, with the default set of applets. What was particularly striking was the fact that re-creating afterwards exactly the same set of applets made the issue more difficult to occur. [Bug 439448] Re: Visual corruption affecting several panel applets
Joaquin : this is a serious upstream bug that will continue to affect other distros that don't use Gnome Shell, that will continue to affect users who want to keep the old interface, and that will continue to affect users of the LTS. I really don't see why it wouldn't be fixable ? Now it even seems we have some ways to reproduce it almost each time. Well, if anyone can confirm that, when invoking killall gnome-panel from the guest account (or unmodified out of the box configuration), it corrupts the show desktop icon practically each time. Can people check that ? Now I'll shut up until I really have some actual new pieces of information :) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/439448 Title: Visual corruption affecting several panel applets -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 439448] Re: Visual corruption affecting several panel applets
Lonnie : I agree... In July I kind of said please guys, let's stop complaining / commenting if no new relevant piece of information is added... But... This bug has been here for so long it's getting ridiculous (no offense to anyone involved, but this report was created in sept 2009 and almost everyone gets this bug). It occurs almost every day on my setup and I saw it occur on every setup I installed Ubuntu. (provided Compiz was enabled) I'm definitely not the kind to complain at all, but this is making me lose faith in the development process :) It seems the GNOME devs don't use Ubuntu so don't reproduce it and don't care (as it seems related to the Human / Murrine GTK Engine) / or are too busy with GNOME shell / or the Ubuntu devs are too busy with UNITY and think anyway in 11.04 the old UI will be ditched. But well, the bug will still be in the LTS for one more year (!). And many people will prefer to keep the old Gnome panels interface. Well I don't know what to say. Should we set up a bounty ? Or a petition ? I get phone calls of my friends telling me they cannot shut down the computer or access the applets... [Bug 439448] Re: Visual corruption affecting several panel applets
Joaquin : TOMA ? Googled it, didn't find :) All : hmm, I'm not sure this is relevant but this seems interesting. Usually I only keep a top panel and corruption appears in the indicators area and disappears with a killall gnome-panel. I recently started my /home from scratch and kept everything as conservative out of the box as possible. I noticed that : corruption appears here more frequently in the bottom panel (show desktop applet) (and once in a while in the top panel near the canonical indicators). So this seems unrelated to the indicators. More importantly, when calling killall gnome-panel corruption doesn't disappear systematically. It actually makes it happen about 50% of the cases ! In other word : starting from an out of the box' Ubuntu install with Compiz, corruption may be triggered when calling a couple of times killall gnome-panel and can thus be reproduced very easily. Also, it is thus 1) not related to the indicators 2) not related to the GNOME startup itself as it can be reproduced afterwards We may add 3) seems to be related to themes that use the Murrine GTK engine ? 4) is definitely triggered when Compiz is enabled. I'm making assumptions and definitely didn't re-read the hundreds of comments of this bugreport. Do you think guys we could/should set up a wiki page or a poll or another statistical tool to have a better consciousness / visibility of the different factors at play ? (also : noone interested by a bounty ?) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/439448 Title: Visual corruption affecting several panel applets -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 439448] Re: Visual corruption affecting several panel applets
Sorry for polluting this thread even more but : some core GNOME developers do read the upstream bugreport here : https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=596923 Can we agree on a set of facts that we could forward to them ? For instance, V. Untz is aware that the bug is not triggered by the indicators as corruption can happen even if all of them are removed. Also, he seems to take seriously the fact that it would be related to the Murrine GTK engine. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/439448 Title: Visual corruption affecting several panel applets -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 439448] Re: Visual corruption affecting several panel applets
One more thing that I find interesting : - earlier I said I could trigger some corruption in the bottom panel, near the show desktop applet, by invoking killall gnome-panel a couple of times : this is true - HOWEVER, I moved the applets and put them back EXACTLY the way they were before and noticed the corruption didn't happen anymore when calling killall gnome-panel. - I thought wtf ? so I started a guest session. The panel looks exactly the same. And now, calling killall gnome-panel does indeed trigger the very same corruption in more than 50% of the cases. But what can be the differences between 2 bottom panels that contain exactly the same applets at the same location, one of which does trigger the bug easily... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/439448 Title: Visual corruption affecting several panel applets -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 660222] Re: Totem freeze when click and drag a folder or folders
I was about to report this. This is a REALLY tricky bug but I now manage to reproduce it within 30 seconds... 1) open totem 2) play a music file (please use the (public domain) Amiga .mod files I will attach below, for some reason, I manage to reproduce the problem more easily with those -- but it also occurs with mp3s) 3) now drag a 2nd music file above the totem window. DO NOT DROP YET ! Just move the mouse cursor very quickly BETWEEN THE VISUALIZATION (goom enabled) AND PLAYLIST panes. Do it for about 15 seconds 4) the file icon may disappear after a few seconds. If it doesn't : play the 2nd file and drag the 1st file ( goto 2 until the problem occurs) 5) once the dragged icon has disappeared : the GUI is completely locked. Actually not completely : - the music is still beiing played - you can still move the mouse cursor but its state is frozen (it can be a move add or normal cursor) - sometimes you can still scroll within the playlist -- as if the mouse cursor was locked inside the playlist - nothing else responds and you have to kill the X server ! This is a really weird bug but I managed to trigger it about 15 times in half an hour. Please try with the mod music files below. I also attach a gdb backtrace (with the totem symbols installed but maybe more are required ?) -- I started gdb until the text console and exported the display for totem. Please note : I am using the nvidia proprietary drivers. Ah, I figured out the issue didn't occur after removing the ~/.config/Empathy/geometry.ini file. When displaying a ratings column in the playlist and scrolling up in a playlist (not down) the stars are not displayed properly as you can see in the provided screenshot. See below a screenshot of what occurs when compiz is enabled in Maverick beta : the eog window is oversized, thus one cannot see the bottom of the picture nor its status bar. [Bug 439448] Re: visual corruption affecting several panel applets
I mentioned upstream that I did manage to reproduce the issue when using only one panel with **no single piece of Canonical applet** ( obviously with Compiz enabled) -- only standard Gnome stuff. So, what else can differ from a regular Gnome setup on another distro ? I tried to switch to Clearlooks. No issue so far after forcing many reboots, but I wouldn't draw any conclusion too soon... BTW, Ambiance Radiance rely on the Murrine GTK engine. Could it be at fault ? [I just have a single panel with (from left to right) the gnome Menu, icons, the task-bar, system monitor, virtual desktops, the standard notifications applet and the time applet.] Anyway : did anyone manage to trigger it with the standard Clearlooks theme ? The Gnome devs are pretty helpless about this issue... As some of us said above, I think maybe the bug priority should be raised. I think we should stop adding a comment each time this issue starts / stop occuring : the problem with this particular issue is indeed that no-one seems to have figured out how to reproduce it reliably. What is obvious is that the scope of this bug is very wide, does affect most people one day, and is extremely annoying for joe users that won't have the idea to do a killall gnome-panel or shutdown -h etc. What we urgently need is to establish a reliable protocol to pinpoint this issue, as soon as possible...
