The same issue still affects Rhythmbox in Ubuntu 12.10 beta 2, trying to
enable replaygain while a song is playing reproducibly leads to the

[Bug 809609] Re: gedit crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance_is_a()

2012-02-06 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Hi Sebastien, the issue seems to be the same, a crash at
g_type_check_instance_is_a, called by g_file_equal, the segvanalysis is
bascially identical (see my bug #927150). But you are right, the
stacktrace is not exactly identical (g_type_check_instance_is_a -
g_file_equal - gtk_path_bar_finalize in this bug,
g_type_check_instance_is_a - g_file_equal - g_hash_table_lookup_node
in my case) -- so you think it is worth keeping the two bug reports
separate? I'll unmark bug #927150 as a duplicate, then.

[Bug 809609] Re: gedit crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance_is_a()

2012-02-05 Thread Marcel Stimberg
The crash is reproducible on Precise (see my duplicate bug report #927150) -- I
followed the instructions provided by fabrg in bug #926858:
Steps to reproduce:

1. Open gedit and display File Browser (side panel)
2. Open a structure folder with some folders and files (i suggest you /home/),
and expand some folder till you see some files, like
-- /afolder/
afile
afile
-- /afolder/
afile
afile
afile
3. click refresh view button
4. the structure should collapse automaticaly. if not, try to refresh again
untill it does. (probally gedit will crash)
5. when the folder collapse, expand it again.
6. repeat steps 3 to 5 till gedit crashes.

I had to repeat steps 3-5 quite a few times but in the end gedit crashed
when I clicked on the expand arrow for a directory.

[Bug 923943] Re: I can't hide menu, even creating a new config file or change values via gconf-editor

2012-01-30 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

Ok. I guess you can also see the test movie that is installed by
checkbox: /usr/share/checkbox/data/video/Quicktime_Video.mov ?

I saw your movie uses ffmjpeg as a codec, thats different from the one in the
movies I tried. Could you try installing all the other gstreamer plugin
modules, i.e. do somthing like
sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad
gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad-multiverse gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly

Maybe the support is in one of those packages.

[Bug 922069] Re: REGRESSION: can't play mov files

2012-01-29 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Thanks for the info (although it unfortunately did not include infos
about plugins etc...). To sort out whether it is anything totem-specific
or (as I expect) a problem in the gstreamer backend, could you please
install the gstreamer-tools package and run:

gst-launch playbin
uri=file:///usr/share/checkbox/data/video/Quicktime_Video.mov

Does this work or not? If it doesn't, what error message does it give?
Thanks again.

2012-01-29 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Can you reproduce this crash? If yes, please first run:
sudo service apport start force_start=1
(will prompt for your password) in a terminal. Now try to reproduce the crash:
A dialog box will appear asking you to send a bug report. This will
automatically create a new bug report. After this is done, please review
whether you find anything confidential in the attached files and if not, set
the visibility to public (if you are not sure, you can of course leave it as
private as well).
I'm marking this bug here as invalid, but please post the number of the newly
reported bug here as a comment. If for some reason you can reproduce the crash
but sending the bug report fails, feel free to reopen this bug by setting the
status back to new and we'll sort it out. Thanks in advance!

Many thanks for your bug report -- I'm somewhat surprised that you are
apparently the first one reporting it as it is easily reproducible for
me (both on 11.10 and on the current development version 12.04). I
created a new bug report with additional debug information (bug
#923432). For the sake of simplicity I'm marking this bug as a duplicate
even though you certainly reported it first.

Quicktime should be supported by a plugin in the gstreamer0.10-plugins-
good package -- do you have this installed? If not, could you check
whether installing it makes a difference? I can play quicktime videos
with totem on my machine, but presumably different versions of the
quicktime codec exist that are maybe not all supported by gstreamer.

[Bug 901822] Re: gadu gadu

2011-12-09 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,

[Bug 207583] Re: [hardy, oneiric] Two instances of applet icon are displayed in notification area

2011-10-02 Thread Marcel Stimberg
You can check your setting with:
  $ gsettings get com.canonical.Unity.Panel systray-whitelist
The default values are:
  ['JavaEmbeddedFrame', 'Wine', 'scp-dbus-service', 'Update-notifier']
In my case this had been changed to ['all']
If you have it installed, you can also use dconf-editor to check/set the value.

I still cannot reproduce the problem, dragdrop on a SMB share and from

be unrelated to your problem. Do your filenames are somehow special?

[Bug 794512] Re: evince prints garbage with PDF files

2011-08-18 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Thanks for the information (yes, liboppler was a typo). So the
permission denied problem seems indeed occur because of apparmor. You
could try to temporarily disable the apparmor profile as described here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingApparmor#Debugging_procedure

For both of your problems, I still think they are possibly already fixed
and do occur in your installation because of outdated packages. Try to
make sure (e.g. by sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade) that
you really have the most recent packages installed. For example, your
libpoppler-glib5 package is still 0.14.3-0ubuntu1 instead of
0.14.3-0ubuntu1.2 and evince-common (this contains the apparmor profile)
was -- at the time when you reported the bug -- at 2.32.0-0ubuntu1
instead of 2.32.0-0ubuntu1.1

[Bug 794512] Re: evince prints garbage with PDF files

2011-08-15 Thread Marcel Stimberg
When you say the problem occurs only with print preview -- do you mean that
you can print and print to file without problem? Just to make sure that there
is not problem with the poppler version: Could you run
  apt-cache policy liboppler*
in a terminal and attach the output here?

The problem with the printing from print preview could have something to
do with apparmor. Is your home directory is in any way special, e.g.
on an NFS share, on a NTFS-formatted drive, ...? After you get the
errormessage in your second screenshot, do you see any apparmor messages
in the output of the command dmesg ?

[Bug 817709] Re: missing buttons: pi, arcsin, arccos, arctan, arsinh, ...

2011-08-02 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Thank you for your bug report and taking the time to make Ubuntu better.

I do actually think everything you need is already there: For converting
degrees to radians you can use the general conversion mechanism present in the
advanced mode -- In the box in the type left chose Angles - degrees and
in the one on the right chose radians.
Pi is also there, try the π button (also in advanced mode, above =) or
use Ctrl+P
For arctan: The documentation says you can use atan but that apparently does
not work. What does work however is using tan-¹ by typing tan and then
pressing Ctrl+I for inversion.

I've mark the bug as invalid, please feel free to reopen it if you still
think it should be filed as a bug.

Re: [Bug 817709] Re: missing buttons: pi, arcsin, arccos, arctan, arsinh, ...

2011-08-02 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Thanks for the hint with Ctrl+I, it works well. However, it is a hidden
feature and I think it is not accessible enough. There should be a non-
shortcut way to activate this function. Either a menu item or a button
 ^-1.
Well, there is a x-¹ button which does the same as Ctrl+I…

Allowing arcsin to be entered manually would be nice as well.
Yes, I agree. As I said before, the documentation says that it is
possible to enter asin which does however not work. So what about
making the report specifically about this issue (and suggest arcsin
instead of/in addition to asin which is more a programming language
name)?

I'd like to add, that sin⁻¹(x) is not a very nice notation because it
conflicts with sin²(x) witch, I think, is much more common.
Actually I do think it is ok as it is, IMO most people will read
sin⁻¹(x) as arcsin and sin²(x) as the square of the function value --
to me the latter always felt more wrong (why not just write sin(x)²
?).

comment to the upstream bug at

[Bug 388550] Re: Can't change default calendar view

2011-07-04 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Actually, the bug you reported in bug #805114 seems to be fixed in evolution
3.1.2 (the current version in Oneiric): If you are in the work week view and
change the month in the little calendar in the left sidebar, the view remains
in work week mode. The same is true for the month and the list view, the week
view however always switches to the day view.
The OP in this bug report did not mention changing months but selecting a
specific day from the calendar -- this still always changes the view into day
view. I'll update the upstream bug accordingly.

Re: [Bug 388550] Re: Can't change default calendar view

2011-07-04 Thread Marcel Stimberg
No, that is not true. I just tested the work week view, clicked change
month in the little calendar to the left and ended up in day view!
Did you test using version 3.1.2 in Oneiric? That's the version I
used, you previously mentioned version 3.0.2.

There's even another strange behavior to see: when you enable week numbers
(shown in the little calendar), select work week view and then click on the
week numbers, you stay in work week view - that is correct. But clicking next
month then (only when week numbers is enabled!!) you end up in the next
month, but the shown week (still work week view) is something like Wednesday
to Tuesday or Thursday to Wednesday - but NOT Monday through Sunday anymore!
Could you report this as a new bug, please (or better first check
whether it has already been reported)?

Could somebody please just see how Outlook does this? That would be
 correct behavior!
This kind of comment does not really help -- in many regards Outlook's
behaviour is far away from correct and simply copying Outlook is
certainly not what evolution's developers are trying to achieve.

2011-07-03 Thread Marcel Stimberg
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 388550 ***

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This particular bug has already been reported and is a
duplicate of bug 388550 so it is being marked as such. Bug 388550 has an
upstream bug attached but that one has expired because no one provided
the info that the issue still persists. Could you add a comment to the
upstream bug report stating that the issue still exists with evolution
2.23.2 ? It would be even better if you could test it in the current
development version of Ubuntu (Oneiric), e.g. in a virtual machine,
because the version of evolution is already 3.1.2 there.

[Bug 513468] Re: Dim display when idle does not respect idle time setting

2011-06-30 Thread Marcel Stimberg
I'm reverting the bug status back to Incomplete for now, until someone
can test whether the bug still exists in the current development release
of Ubuntu. Before trying to fix bugs in older releases it is always
sensible to first look whether it is already fixed in a newer release --
if it is, it makes sense to backport this fix. BTW: You do not need an
installation of Oneiric (or Natty) to test, you can test it running it
from an USB stick, for example.

I marked another bug as a duplicate of this bug, I'm copying my comment from
there which might be helpful for you:
There are two different settings: Switching off the screen after a certain
time (that is what you set with Put display to sleep when inactive for and
uses hh:mm values) and dim the screen when idle. The latter setting does not
care for the time you set but uses a standard value of 10 seconds. You can
change this value using gconf-editor (
/apps/gnome-power-manager/backlight/idle_dim_time ). I agree that this is not
user-friendly and apparently also against what the documentation says.

Finally, regarding your comment Testing on new releases is a task I
expect you, the vendor, to perform. Your use of the term vendor
implies you paid for Ubuntu, I'd therefore suggest you raise this report
in the respective channel of your support provider (e.g. if you are a
subscriber of Canonical's Ubuntu Home Support, log in to the online
support portal at https://landscape.canonical.com/)

[Bug 801542] Re: Left panel status should be saved between sessions

2011-06-25 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Thank you for your bug report and taking the time to make Ubuntu better.

I think the fact that the settings are document-specific is more of a feature
than a bug -- e.g. for some long document you may always want the table of
contents which would be silly for a two page document.
I think the correct way of doing what you want to achieve is: Close the
sidebar and chose Save current settings as default from the Edit menu --
does this work for you?

Thanks for the screenshot, I agree that makes the document hard to read ;) For
the standard fonts (Times, Helvetica, Courier, etc.), the replacements from the
gsfonts package should be used. You seem to have the same (standard) version of
gsfonts installed that I have. Maybe something is wrong in the font matching.

[Bug 797764] Re: Document Viewer doesn't respect Ubuntu Classic (no effects)

2011-06-16 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Thank you for your bug report and taking the time to make Ubuntu better. The
choice of Ubuntu Classic (no effects) has nothing to do with the overlay
scrollbars -- all applications that use them under Unity will use them under
Ubuntu Classic as well. Firefox and LibreOffice writer never use them (yet), so
running Unity you would not see them as well.
To remove the new scrollbars from all applications, you can remove the
overlay-scrollbar package.

[Bug 795795] Re: Overlay scrollbar in evolution's message preview pane does not appear on approach (only on hover)

2011-06-12 Thread Marcel Stimberg
As I previously confirmed the issue, I take the liberty to answer the
question: In the upper right part (message list) of the evolution
window, the scrollbar behaves as in other applications -- as soon as you
approach the scrollbar the thumb appears when you are a couple of
pixels away. This is different in the lower part (message preview), here
the scrollbar appears only when you hover over the scrollbar itself, not
if you are still some pixels away. I'll try to make a screenshot showing
this.

[Bug 795795] Re: inconsitent new scrollbar behavior

Thank you for your bug report. I'm also seeing the bevaviour you

[Bug 795388] Re: GEdit doesn't guess the encoding if file is opened with doubleclick

2011-06-11 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. I cannot reproduce this problem in Ubuntu 11.04 -- what
version of Ubuntu/gedit are you using? When I double click on a file
with cyrillic letters saved in Windows-1251 it is opened correctly.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

** Changed in: gedit (Ubuntu)
   Status: New = Incomplete
