[Bug 861171] Re: Shutdown from greeter does nothing when multiple accounts open

2013-01-05 Thread Marius Kotsbak
We could add a checkbox to the dialog that needs to be checked to be
able to select the destructive action, hmm, but it might be confusing
for the other choices. Or maybe an extra verification dialog box with
cancel as default (and maybe the checkbox here instead) that pops up
when selecting the unclean shutdown.

[Bug 882040] Re: should let users enable or disable suspend and hibernate

2012-12-16 Thread Marius Kotsbak
Well, it probably still takes a lot of time to shut down, as the whole
RAM must be written to disk. This is getting worse as the amount of RAM
increases, but it helps that the hard drives/SSDs are getting faster. I
don't want to wait a long time between I press the suspend button and
the time it is save to pack down the laptop. Bootup will be as fast as
suspend though.

The mode could make sense for laptops, but maybe less for desktops with
a stable power supply.

The could be locked in a cabinet so that it can't be hit by any user.

And since Ubuntu can't know, the behaviour must be configurable, and
only the default must be discussed.

[Bug 1042456] Re: Huawei e398 doesn't work

2012-11-19 Thread Marius Kotsbak
Hmm, I see now that you have full coverage (5/5). I see that the modem
suddenly loses the data connection port:

modem-manager[14730]: debug [1353275176.363323] [mm-serial-port.c:697]
data_available(): (ttyUSB0) unexpected port hangup!

But then right after it is connected:

modem-manager[14730]: info [1353275176.364505] [mm-modem.c:764]
mm_modem_set_state(): Modem /org/freedesktop/ModemManager/Modems/0:
state changed (disconnecting - connected)

Aleksander: is there more Huawei port numbering lies? Or maybe the modem
is not properly implemented/unstable for using LTE without QMI?

It seems like the modem disconnects right after it has connected. I see
that the signal level is 2 of 5. What happens if you try to set the
connection to use only 2G or 3G?

There is work underway upstream to support connecting to the modem using
QMI protocol, but that is probably not ready at earliest for Ubuntu
13.04. It will probably improve performance, but it seems like the modem
should work without also.

[Bug 796872] Re: Serious Network Manager Issues with Mobile Broadband

2012-10-22 Thread Marius Kotsbak
Here you are reporting 4 different problems. I think most of them are
solved or already are having their own bug reports.

There is no longer autoconnection of 3G devices, so the problems related
to that should have been solved. I think you can measure data traffic
for each network device to distinguish the wifi traffic.

If you see any of these problems in a recent Ubuntu version, please open
a terminal and type ubuntu-bug network-manager and please describe
only one issue.

I reproduce this in Eclipse Juno downloaded separately in KDE in Ubuntu

[Bug 943607] Re: Application (Spotify) can prevent shutdown.

2012-06-01 Thread Marius Kotsbak
Okay, I guess then it is a bug in the Spotify application. Marking as
invalid in gnome-session as it probably needs to wait some time to let
the application quit (maybe Spotify tries to logout via network to
signal the account can be used elsewhere) and that it is not confirmed
that it is not a new version of Spotify that has changed tve the logout
behavior.

I would recommend reporting this problem in the Spotify forums if it
still is an issue.

[Bug 682788] Re: Improve Unity menus

2012-05-22 Thread Marius Kotsbak
Romano: these hidden interface elements (menu+window controls) actually
does not work on tablet devices without mouse, as it is not possible to
move the mouse pointer without clicking.

For netbook devices with mouse and small screen the current behavior
could be the best (but should be a user choice). On my device, there is
not enough space for menu+indicators+window controls. Maybe the menu
should have been below the other things.

[Bug 321720] Re: PDF v1.7 asks to upgrade Adobe Reader

2012-02-29 Thread Marius Kotsbak
Here is more information about the format:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acroforms#AcroForms
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XML_Forms_Architecture

pdftk has an option that possibly can be used as a workaround/help:

[drop_xfa]
If your input PDF is a form created using Acrobat 7 or Adobe Designer, then it
probably has XFA data. Filling such a form using pdftk yields a PDF with data
that fails to display in Acrobat 7 (and 6?). The workaround solution is to
remove the form's XFA data, either before you fill the form using pdftk or at
the time you fill the form. Using this option causes pdftk to omit the XFA data
from the output PDF form.
This option is only useful when running pdftk on a single input PDF. When
assembling a PDF from multiple inputs using pdftk, any XFA data in the input is
automatically omitted.

From the man page: http://linux.die.net/man/1/pdftk

[Bug 535491] Re: Screensaver blocks Fn+F4 to suspend

2011-07-21 Thread Marius Kotsbak
Okay, it should probably be discussed as a wishlist item instead.
Ideally it should be configurable by the user and the discussion be what
should be the default.

I always expected sleep button not to work when it is locked, but could
benefit from it being possible.

2011-07-20 Thread Marius Kotsbak
I can not reproduce this in 11.04 with Unity and 9.04 is no longer
supported. Can anybody reproduce this in any current versions (like the
LTS)?

[Bug 535491] Re: Screensaver blocks Fn+F4 to suspend

2011-07-19 Thread Marius Kotsbak
I would expect the observed behavior. A random user with physical access
to a PC but without user account should not be able to suspend the PC,
possibly stopping background jobs etc (and loosing files if the suspend
fails).

Same with volume control, the user might have muted it on purpose.

[Bug 131885] Re: Backlight no longer under my control on battery

2009-07-07 Thread Marius Kotsbak
Well, a workaround is to kill gnome-power-manager (or somehow make it
not to load). Then you have full manual control of the backlight. The
only problem I have seen is the batteriy indicator disappears, but can
be replaced by a gnome battery applet instead.
