[Bug 365270] Re: Move is Copy + Thrash, should be Move that removes all traces of the first.
Paul Smith : The problem exists with any version of evolution and I see it with both IMAP and POP server. My problem is really not the reliability of the software, but its usability. E.g. I'm using evolution and, I suddenly press the DEL key (accidentally). And I don't which exact mail has been deleted. That is not a problem, I have used Outlook for many years or any Desktop system and I know that the trash will contains the usual trash and just one file (i.e. one mail) that I did not delete on purpose. That is the one I want to restore. But, with evolution (and maybe other software,, but not all IMAP clients), this won't work because this email is lost among a huge number of email that are not trash but just email that I have moved. So I can't find that email in the trash (it is there, but I can't find it). Maybe Evolution should just use a real Trash folder that the user fill and empty manually (this is done by some IMAP client). Message deleted by the user would be _moved_ to this folder. And the content of this folder would be distinct from the list of non-expunged-email (which is a virtual folder). The IMAP DELETE operation and the delete operation performed by an user are two very different things. I consider it a bug that evolution manage them as the same thing. -- Move is Copy + Thrash, should be Move that removes all traces of the first. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/365270 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 365270] Re: Move is Copy + Thrash, should be Move that removes all traces of the first.
Disregarding the database problem, the point of view of the submitters of the two bug that were marked as dupplicate of this one is quiet different. There problem (and mine) is that, whenever a mail is moved along, a copy _appears_ in the trash folder (both with local mail and with IMAP folders). I understand the technical reason not the delete the message from the server/mbox file immediately. But, as it is a technocal restriction, the user need not be aware of that. Read bug 209214 to see why people dislike this way of functionning. Adding a mechanism (on evolution's side) which hide these message from the trash folder until it is really expunged. Moreover, I believe that expunging the email folders and emptying the trash folder are two very different thing. One is a detail of the implementation and should be hided from the user, the second is a standard part of user interfaces and should act the same way as it always act (or be called differently). The current situation is very misleading. But this is more an upstream issue. -- Move is Copy + Thrash, should be Move that removes all traces of the first. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/365270 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 220014] Re: wrong mail displayed
I don't think that it is related to the server because I download the mail with pop3 and thay are properly downloaded. It is only later (some days after) that some mails became corrupted. But at this time there is no communication with the ervere for these emails. What I will try to do is to produce a mbox file with corrupted emails into it, and see if they are also corrupted if moved to a new installation, and if so I will upload them. -- wrong mail displayed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/220014 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 220014] Re: wrong mail displayed
I understand that, but as neither you nor I can find the duplicate bug, maybe this one should stay open. I do not have gtk-qt-engine installed, I do not have steps to trigger to bug, but it happens all the time. That is to say, there is some mails that I can never see (they always shows, when selected, an other mail - which is always the same for a given email that is selected). I can't remember how the bugs has solved last time it happened. It is possible that it has never ended, but just that I stopped paying attention to the problematic mails. The problem is that if I am moving one of these mail from my inbox to an other folder, the mail that is being moved is the wrong one: in the other folder the message in the message list correspond to the displayed mail but is not the mail I moved. If I move the mail back, it is still the wrong one and the good one is lost. So as I archive my mail periodically, it is possible that all the problematic emails have just been destroyed in this process. Which would qualify this bug to be critical. I am willing to help this bug being solved, let me know if there is something that I can do. -- wrong mail displayed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/220014 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 209214] Re: Mails in trash while moving are confused
I confirm this. I believe that it is not really a bug, but this way of filling the trash with 'good' mail is very disturbing and render the trash nearly useless to find mails that would have been deleted by error. ** Changed in: evolution (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed -- Mails in trash while moving are confused https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/209214 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 220014] [NEW] wrong mail displayed
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution Sometime the mails that are displayed when selecting a mail in the message list of evolution is not the good one. That is to say: the list of mail is correct (or at least it seems) but when I select a mail in the list, the message shown in the preview pane (I am not sure of the name, but it's the pane the comes with ctrl+m) is not the same one. It's in fact a completely different message that can be some months old and located in a different folder. If I double-click on the message, or press reply, it's the wrong message that appears. I already experienced this bugs some months ago and it eventually disappeared but it is very disturbing because I have no way to access to some of my emails. On the attached screenshot you can see a selected mail and the header of the displayed mail that mismatch. There is also a localization problem with the date being in French in the message list and in English in the header panel. But I believe that these issue are separated because the localization problems only showed up after the upgrade to hardy whereas I already had this issue (the mail mismatch) in gutsy. $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 8.04 Release:8.04 $ apt-cache policy evolution evolution: Installé : 2.22.1-0ubuntu2 Candidat : 2.22.1-0ubuntu2 Table de version : *** 2.22.1-0ubuntu2 0 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status $ apt-cache policy evolution-data-server evolution-data-server: Installé : 2.22.1-0ubuntu1 Candidat : 2.22.1-0ubuntu1 Table de version : *** 2.22.1-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- wrong mail displayed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/220014 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Switching with the panel applet is the same that with the keyboard, that is to say that at the opening of a new session, clicking the applet has no effects and there is only France in the groupes submenu. [Bug 84933] shares admin does not update /etc/exports when deleting shared folder
Public bug reported: Hello, I'm using Ubuntu 6.10 AMD64. And when I delete a shared folder from the list of shared folders in the UI of share-admin, an SMB shared folder is properly deleted, but if I'm deleting an NFS shared folder, it seems to be deleted, but next time I open the UI, the folder is still there. I found that I have to remove the folder manually from /etc/exports in order for the folder to disappear from the list. [Bug 45633] Re: Evolution eats up all system memory when recursing into imap directory tree.
I've got exactly the same problem, but I'm not using any IMAP directories, just POP mailboxes (a lot, around 8). But apart from that, the problem seems to be very similar : the memory used by evolution grows with time without limit, ending around 3.5 Go when all my RAM and swap is used and the application is killed by the systems. [Bug 84978] gnome-keyboard-properties : need to be reconfigured for each session
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center Hello, I've got a bug quiet similar to bug 23762, but I'm not sure it's the same one : With Ubuntu 6.10 AMD64, I have configured in the gnome-keyboard- properties 2 keyboard settings : French (default) and Russian (phonetic) (I'm not sure that these are the proper name as my system is in French). But since I deleted the US configuration that was installed originally (along with the French one) I can't choose any of the configuration to be the default, the default box is just inert (clicking it does nothing). This is not too worrying as French is my default choice and is what is loaded by the system. The real problem is that I can't change the keyboard configuration with the alt keys. In order for the keys to work, I have to go the the UI, make some change (for exemple moving down then up again one configuration), and close the UI. After that, until I close the session, I can change the configuration with the alt keys. ** Affects: control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- gnome-keyboard-properties : need to be reconfigured for each session https://launchpad.net/bugs/84978 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
