[Bug 93847] Re: Excessive CPU usage by Gnome System Monitor
@Thomas Weiler This 8% is not everything, if I switch to the Resources tab I see CPU usage of about 15-20% on each core which is a lot considering I'm not running anything computionally complex. On my older laptop it was a lot more than this 15-20%, it reached 50-70% IIRC. Besides, it's not only a g-s-m process, Xorg also counts as it suffers from excessive calls from g-s-m. Each a few seconds/a minute there is also a peak: g-s-m to about 25%, Xorg to about 50%. You obviously have a different issue so if you want to report it create a separate bug report. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/93847 Title: Excessive CPU usage by Gnome System Monitor -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

@Thomas Weiler Maybe you're right but that would mean most of alleged dups should be un-dupped, look at their description. [Bug 467668] Re: Neither compiz nor metacity nor nautilus are run at start
My problem wasn't really gone even for a while, sorry for misinformation - I just forgot that I added compiz --replace and nautilus commands to Startup Applications manually... I disabled them and logged to xterm session; log file attached. Don't worry about these Connection failed, reconnecting... warnings - they are caused by the fact that I purged PulseAudio completely. Nevertheless, the problem existed long before I did it. ** Attachment added: gnome-session --debug 21 | tee gnome-session.log http://launchpadlibrarian.net/35984360/gnome-session.log -- Neither compiz nor metacity nor nautilus are run at start https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/467668 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

For people disappointed with PulseAudio - see: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=8130297postcount=25 Those scripts allow You to have a fully functional Karmic sound setup without PulseAudio. First, execute the following in a terminal: $ sudo apt-get purge libcanberra-pulse pulseaudio pulseaudio-esound-compat pulseaudio-module-bluetooth pulseaudio-module-gconf pulseaudio-module-udev pulseaudio-module-x11 gstreamer0.10-pulseaudio pulseaudio-utils pavucontrol $ sudo apt-get install gnome-alsamixer alsa-oss python-alsaaudio Then, unpack those 5 files somewhere (but it's better not to change the location later), add: python /PATH/TO/alsavol.py python /PATH/TO/volbar.py (You can also run them in a current instance by pressing Alt+F2 twice and writing there those commands) At last, open System - Settings - Keyboard Shortcuts and add a custom shortcut key named alsa mute and command /PATH/to/alsa_master_mute and assign the mute key to this command. Do the same for down and up. Instructions thanks to richie2.0. :) P.S. Remember to change sound setup in all applications from pulse to alsa (e.g. in (s)mplayer, vlc, VirtualBox etc.). P.S.2. [Bug 482949] [NEW] There is no easy way to restore Nautilus as a default application to open directories after it has been changed
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus Some applications can change the default application to open directories from nautilus to another application. For example, I did it once with Krusader by following these steps: 1) Right-click any folder in Krusader 2) Choose Open with - Other... 3) Choose any application (e.g. I chosed smplayer because I wanted it to play this directory as a DVD Video) 4) Mark Remember association for this type of file From now on, clicking Places - any folder causes Smplayer to open the directory. There is no easy way to fix this as directory properties window in Nautilus doesn't have a tab to set a default application (it only has one for files). The only way to fix this is editing .local/share/applications/mimeapps.list file manually which is not especially user-friendly. Proposed fixes: a) Add a tab in directory properties for setting a default application for opening it. b) Don't allow to open directories in any program besides Nautilus regardless other settings. [Bug 454546] [NEW] Confusing unmounting a pendrive - too much choice (3 options)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus Let's assume I'm a regular Ubuntu user. I want to remove a pendrive. I right-click the icon and what I see?
