[Bug 1421117] [NEW] Ubuntu 15.04 VM doesn't boot after switching permanently to systemd

2015-02-12 Thread Michael Bienia
Public bug reported:

My Ubuntu 15.04 VM (running under VMware) doesn't boot anymore after
permanently switching to systemd.
I've switched to systemd with apt install systemd-sysv --purge (it only
purged the upstart package) and with the default Ubuntu entry the boot fails
after about 2.5 sec with a kernel panic (Attempted to kill init). But it
works when edit the grub entry (in the grub shell) and add
init=/lib/systemd/systemd.

Attached is the serial output (with debug but no init= parameter).

** Affects: systemd (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Attachment added: SerialOutput.txt

I don't remember seeing this problem recently anymore. I'm using oneiric

[Bug 818145] [NEW] Screensaver displays the time in UTC

2011-07-29 Thread Michael Bienia
Public bug reported:

The top bar of the screensaver displays the time in UTC. While the normal clock
display e.g. 18:03 (local time) the screensaver displays 16:03 (UTC as my
timezone is +2).
My clock runs on UTC (UTC=yes in /etc/default/rcS) and my timezone should be
properly configured as date displays the time correctly.
This is with gnome-screensaver 3.0.0-2ubuntu2 from oneiric.

[Bug 703230] Re: rm: cannot remove `/usr/share/doc/libpango1.0-0': Is a directory when updating to 1.28.3-4

2011-03-26 Thread Michael Bienia
My guess is that it happened in the past when the package switched from
directory to that symlink (between dapper and hardy somewhen) that it
didn't get handled properly (A directory will never be replaced by a
symbolic link to a directory or vice versa (Debian policy §6.6.4)). But
as this didn't cause any problems till now it went unnoticed. So only
system which got installed a couple releases ago and got upgraded
constantly should be affected.

[Bug 522584] [NEW] Applications starting in fullscreen jump to the left monitor in a dual-screen setup

2010-02-16 Thread Michael Bienia
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: metacity

I'm having a dual-screen setup where mine main monitor is the right
one. Until recently (I don't know exactly when it changed) an
application started in fullscreen was displayed on the monitor with the
mouse cursor. But now it is displayed for a fraction of a second on mine
main monitor before it jumps to the left one. This only happens for
applications started in fullscreen and I have to move them to the right
monitor (once they are there they stay there as long as they are
running). Other applications stay on the monitor with the mouse cursor
when started.

[Bug 403397] Re: No nodeadkeys after login

2009-08-23 Thread Michael Bienia
On my laptop (i386) I don't see this problem (I get a german keyboard layout
with no dead keys after login). Doing a quick compare of some config files
(/etc/default/console-setup and /etc/X11/xorg.conf) don't show any difference
in the keyboard layout configuration.
My desktop is amd64 and when looking at bug #416917 an other amd64 seems to
have a similar problem.

Any hints how to figure out why my laptop (i386) doesn't show this
problem while my desktop (amd64) shows it are highly welcome.

[Bug 411816] [NEW] gnome-screenshot: Takeing a screenshot of an application on a dual-screen setup shows a black area

2009-08-11 Thread Michael Bienia
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-utils

I've a dual-screen setup with a 17 TFT monitor (1280x1024) and a 24
TFT monitor (1920x1200). This leaves a small invisible area below the
17 TFT monitor. When taking a screenshot of the whole desktop this
invisible area is set to black. But when taking a screenshot of a
maximized application on the 24 TFT monitor I get the same black area
in the screenshot even though the application is completely visible.

[Bug 403397] [NEW] No nodeadkeys after login

2009-07-23 Thread Michael Bienia
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

gdm 2.27.4-0ubuntu5 (karmic)

I'm not sure if it's gdm fault, but given the keyboard layout problems after
login in the past, I assume so.
My keyboard configuration in /etc/default/console-setup is:
XKBMODEL=pc105
XKBLAYOUT=de
XKBVARIANT=nodeadkeys
XKBOPTIONS=compose:menu
I've also the same configured in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
Yet after auto-login to gnome I only get a german layout with deadkeys. Using
gnome-keyboard-properties I can reset it to my configured layout but it's needs
to be done after every login once.
For some reason compose:menu seems to be set correctly at login.

[Bug 403397] Re: No nodeadkeys after login

2009-07-23 Thread Michael Bienia
I've checked this right now (de-activated auto-login and restarted gdm) and the
same happens after login: I've got a german keyboard but with dead keys.
Reseting the layout in gnome-keyboard-properties brings back the nodeadkeys
variant.
This is cumbersome as I use the terminal much and ~ is part of the dead keys.

[Bug 401201] [NEW] Files in /etc/X11/Xsession.d/ aren't sourced anymore

2009-07-18 Thread Michael Bienia
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

The new gdm 2.26.1git20090717-0ubuntu1 doesn't source the files in
/etc/X11/Xsession.d anymore.
I just discovered that I don't have a gpg-agent running in my session anymore.
Looking why no gpg-agent got started, I found Drop debian/Xsession, and change
debian/rules to install the upstream one. in the gdm changelog. Looking at the
new /etc/gdm/Xsession and comparing it with the old one, that's the reason for
it.

[Bug 217270] Re: seahorse does not recognize seahorse-agent/ssh-agent as a caching agent

2009-02-12 Thread Michael Bienia
There seem currently to be at least three agents which can act as a gpg and/or
ssh agent:
- gpg-agent
- seahorse-agent
- gnome-keyring-daemon

Depending on the order in which they are started the last setting the specific
environment variables seems to win.
There should exist an easy way to select which agent ones want to use.

As I have an OpenPGP card, I need gpg-agent and can also use it as a ssh
agent. But unfortunately gnome-keyring-daemon overwrites the ssh agent
settings, so I need to change them manually back when I want to use my
OpenPGP card for ssh authentication.

As I don't have seahorse installed, I don't know how much more an
additional agent would disturb it.

[Bug 210866] Re: Playback on both digital out and analog at the same time broken since gstreamer-alsa 0.10.17.3-1

2008-12-08 Thread Michael Bienia
Yes, I still have the problem with 8.10 (didn't upgrade to 9.04 yet).

This is with pure ALSA, no PulseAudio installed. I've to use gnome-
sound-properties to switch between analog output (my headset) or digital
output (my receiver) depending where I want the sound.

I'll try PulseAudio and see if I manage to configure it to do sound
output both on analog and digital out.

[Bug 210866] [NEW] Playback on both digital out and analog at the same time broken since gstreamer-alsa 0.10.17.3-1

2008-04-02 Thread Michael Bienia
Public bug reported:

I had a working setup where I could hear music on my receiver (digitally
connected) and/or my headset at the same time. This stopped working some
time ago but I only found today time to debug this. After a small debug
session in #ubuntu+1, it looks like gstreamer0.10-alsa is the problem.

The problem I have is that I can hear the music only on my headset but not on
my receiver anymore.
It only works after setting the playback output explicitly to ALSA and
ALC883 Digital but then I can only hear it on my receiver.

After downgrading gstreamer0.10-alsa back to 0.10.17-3 it worked again
as before (sound on both, my headset and my receiver).

[Bug 128557] [gutsy] Allow startup of compiz with emerald

2007-07-26 Thread Michael Bienia
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

There seems to be no way to setup compiz to use emerald as window
decorator by default.

There is a key
(/apps/compiz/plugins/decoration/allscreens/options/command) for that
but the description for it says Decorator command line that is executed
if no decorator is already running.

As the compiz wrapper starts gtk-windows-decorator by default this key
doesn't seem to be used as a decorator is already running.
