[Bug 1876632] Re: [nvidia] Corrupted/missing shell textures when switching users or resuming from suspend

2023-11-28 Thread Moritz Strübe
I think we have some options to fix this. Yet, which would be a solution
that could be packaged? If I understand
https://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86_64/510.54/README/powermanagement.html
correctly there are the following options:

Keep the GPU-Memory Running
===

Pro:
* Only need to set a kernel module parameter
Con:
* Only works in S2
* Uses more power than necessary (at least if more than 256 MB graphic memory
are used)
* Does not work with suspend-to-disk (at least if I understood things right)

Copy Memory to tmpfs

Dump the graphic-memory into tmpfs. I wouldn't suggest using /run, but
creating a driver-specific tmpfs that is large enough to hold the
graphic memory.

Pro:
* Just works, as the kernel takes care of paging the tmpfs to disk in case of
stand-by or suspend-to-disk.
Con:
* Delayed suspend and wakeup
* Unexpected swap-usage -> OOM-Killer might kick in on suspend if there is not
enough or no swap.

Get everyone to work around it
==

Get all the affected applications to update their video-memory after
suspend-to-X.

Pro:
* Does not have any of the Cons of the other solutions
Con:
* Probably very tedious.

Keep it as it is

Pro:
* Minimal effort
* Kind of works most of the time.

Con:
* Nobody is really happy.

[Bug 1813441] Re: Can no longer drag and drop files between desktop and applications

2020-06-10 Thread Moritz
I agree with Carlos Garcia.

This is a functionality that everyone expects to work out of the box
today.

It is frustrating to see that in every Ubuntu release something like
this comes up. Another example making ubuntu look bad: I also had to add
the "show desktop" icon manually to the system today. Wtf.

[Bug 1311213] Re: Evolution 3.10.4 with EWS plugin: Calendar locks up application

2014-05-17 Thread Moritz Baumann
Val, just run a full apt-get upgrade after adding my PPA. It will
update a few libraries which belong to evolution as well, such as
libedata-cal-1.2-23. After that, remove my PPA from your package sources
(because it won't always consist of just one package).

2014-05-16 Thread Moritz Baumann
Val, you have to upgrade all packages related to evolution-data-server,
not just evolution-data-server itself. If you do so (either by
installing the packages from my PPA, which contains *exactly* the same
patch, or by manually installing all packages related to evolution-data-
server from -proposed), you'll notice that the problem is fixed.

I just verified that the packages in -proposed fix the problem just like
my own packages.

[Bug 942598] [NEW] Rendering issue: characters are printed on top of each other

2012-02-28 Thread Moritz Naumann
Public bug reported:

Trying to print preview or print the document available at...

https://www.dab-bank.de/mlm/dabbank/formulare/pdf/hilfe-
service/downloadcenter.Par.28072.File.dat/postident.pdf

...I get a printout where the general document structure is the same,
but all text is rendered at the start of the line, making it unreadable.
I'm attaching a print preview of this document, as generated by evince
3.2.1. While it is possible that this document is broken, other forms
available from this bank at https://www.dab-bank.de/hilfe-
service/formulare.html bear similar issues, so it may indicate at least
a compatibility issue between Quark XPress 6.5, the PDF 1.3 format and
Evince's PDF - PS renderer.

No warning / error messages related to this issue are reported to
stdout/stderr.

[Bug 821878] Re: totem crashed with SIGSEGV (Youtube search term incl. single quote)

2011-08-25 Thread Moritz Naumann
I think the retracing service is wrong here.

$ sudo zgrep -F gstreamer0.10-gconf /var/log/apt/{history,term}.log*
$

I don't think I ever had a package gstreamer0.10-gconf installed. I
do, however, keep my system updated on a daily basis.

sudo apt-get update  sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
indicates that all packages are current. My 'apt-cache policy' output is
attached.

The latest change to any sources.list include file was on July 20th,
this bug was filed on Aug 08th.

$ sudo ls -lt /etc/apt/sources.list* | head -n1
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1154 Jul 20 00:57 /etc/apt/sources.list
$

I assume this bug can be set to be public now.

[Bug 571297] [NEW] Please support HKP over TLS (HKPS) and LDAP over TLS (LDAPS) using gnupg-curl

2010-04-28 Thread Moritz Naumann
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: seahorse

HKPS and LDAPS are alternatives to HKP and LDAP which provide transport
encryption when talking to key servers. HKPS is implemented in GnuPG
since 1.4.10 by means of gnupg-curl. Seahorse 2.28.1 does not support
these protocols (nor do newer versions seem to support it), yet. It
would be nice for seahorse to support them, too, since it would allow
for increased privacy (on the datas' way to and from the keyserver).

[Bug 328569] Re: Nautilus: rename Lösche n

2010-04-07 Thread Moritz Baumann
Well, what could be done is changing the original string to something
like throw into bin. This would make clear that using the standard
command, files are not deleted permanently immediately but just moved.

This bug is not specific to the German translation, therefore I'm
opening a task against nautilus and marking it as invalid. We won't
fix it just for one language, if it's necessary at all.

** Also affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Changed in: language-pack-gnome-de (Ubuntu)

[Bug 285999] Re: gnome-terminal tabs switch is slow when maximized

2008-10-23 Thread Moritz Reiter
I tried it with and without compiz now and it makes no difference.

But after looking more closely I have to specify: There's not any delay
in switching the terminal content itself but only in switching the
focused tab into the foreground which gives the false impression that
there would be a delay in switching the whole terminal content. So it's
really just a matter of beauty and the bug probably shouldn't be
regarded as very important (on the other hand for many users especially
these little unimportant things decide whether the user finds the system
slick and smooth or not).
