[Bug 164120] Re: nautilus hangs when mounted nfs drive is no longer accessible
I also have the same problem, folks, Ubuntu Hardy, fully upgraded. When I don't have the NFS in my network, because I move away from that network, then, when I start Gnome, it hangs very quickly. I have manually deleted NFS directory (which is mounted with autofs) from .gtk-bookmarks, everything goes fine now. If I try to examine that directory from Nautilus, I have to wait, but I'm able to stop it. I have observed that the problem is that things occur at the background, with no other choice for the user but to wait until autofs tells the user that it is impossible to mount the NFS volume. This thing, apparently, never happens. And so, this task should just be threaded at the background, thus allowing Gnome-mounter (or the application which accesses that directory) continue with the job without interrupting all the system. It's definitely not a flaw in NFS, since it is not possible to tell that the server is down, except if you wait for a long amount of time, which is not acceptable in this case. The only solution is to do this task asynchronously from within Gnome itself, as KDE obviously does. Maybe some versions of NFS and autofs wait for a bit shorter doing this task, but this may be wrong in other situations, and anyways, you still have to wait that period of time, which is clearly not the correct thing. -- nautilus hangs when mounted nfs drive is no longer accessible https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/164120 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 313763] [NEW] Very high memory consumption (over 300 megas) and CPU (95% 30 sec) to open a PDF
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evince I'm using Ubuntu Hardy on a 32bit machine. The document is a PDF generated from an HTML file with Firefox, but the same applies to Opera, Epiphany... Evince consumes about 350megas of memory, then hangs and I have to wait 30seconds (up to a minute) for getting it to work again. If I move across the document, or magnify it, or anything else, I have to wait again, so it's impossible to do any work with it. I attach both documents, original HTML and generated PDF. Re: [Bug 173244] Re: Gnome not logging out with Edubuntu LTSP as a thin client
I have checked it and everything is started (gdm and gnome-power-manager), but it seems that when I reload gdm with: /etc/init.d/gdm restart as root, on the server, then the log out dialog appears (with three options: log out, change user and switch off). Anyways, it doesn't do anything, just stops when I press the button. I have tried with different users, the best thing I get is the dialog appearing, but no luck at shutting computer down. Something has changed in the last updates, I think, that has made it stop working. Thanks!! 2007/12/1, Néstor Amigo Cairo [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Ok! [Bug 173244] Gnome not logging out with Edubuntu LTSP as a thin client
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm I log in into Gnome via LTSP client, no problem. I can execute applications perfectly. I have been always able to log out then, and session ended with no problem. But since I updated Edubuntu 7.10 with the latest patches, I couldn't do it anymore. When I press log out, nothing appears. Then, I'm not able to open any application other than Firefox, as far as I know. No error message is printed out. I have to manually switch off computer. It doesn't work, no matter which user is selected. Then, if I switch on computer again, I'm able to log in again using LTSP, but the same error appears when trying to exit. Ctrl+Alt+Backspace works stopping session, but then GDM is not starting again, so that's the reason why I posted bug here.
