[Bug 2067387] Re: [SRU] Backport file-roller 44.3

Ubuntu sponsors, correct me if I'm wrong: Since this is a request to
back port the current version from Oracular to Noble, I don't need to
attach a debdiff.

[Bug 2060730] Re: totem cannot install codecs via packagekit

2024-04-12 Thread Nathan Teodosio
OK, I was also missing gstreamer1.0-packagekit.

Summary is:

For reproducing that exact error, have neither gstreamer1.0-libav nor
gstreamer-1.0-plugins-bad nor gstreamer-1.0-packagekit.

To fix the error, one needs both gstreamer1.0-packagekit and gnome-
software, then hitting "Find in Software" will open gnome-software with
suggestions (as attached).

If I install gnome-software and try again, I get a prompt:

With a button to "Find in Software". Clicking it does nothing though.

And even before clicking anything on the prompt, '/usr/bin/gnome-
software --gapplication-service' is registered in ps.

normally. Maybe I have another package that satisfies that, I'll
investigate further.

[Bug 2039630] Re: When I open gnome-control-center it creates a bunch of transparent windows with the title 'OpenGL Renderer'.

2024-01-05 Thread Nathan Teodosio
** Changed in: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu)
   Status: Expired => Confirmed

** Description changed:

I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 23.10.
- When I open settings (gnome-control-center) and click on a certain menu, it
creates about 8 transparent windows with the title 'OpenGL Randerer'.
+ When I open settings (gnome-control-center) and click "Mouse & Touchpad", it
creates about 8 transparent windows with the title 'OpenGL Randerer'.
You can only see the existence of a window when you press Alt+Tab. In other
words, pressing the Windows key to view the window list does not show 'OpenGL
Randerer'.
A window with the title 'OpenGL Randerer' should not be visible to the user
even when Alt+Tab is pressed.

[Bug 2039187] [NEW] Thunderbird doesn't accept URI attachments anymore

2023-10-12 Thread Nathan Teodosio
Public bug reported:

The desktop portal constructs an mailto: url with an attachment= but
thunderbird upstream explicitly decided to not allow adding files from
an URL for security reasons.

One can still use the -compose option though, as this patch does.

Test case
-

* Install the proposed package.
* Log out and back in.
* Set Thunberbird as default client in Gnome Control Panel.
* Open Nautilus and try to attach two files to the same email. They can be
creatively named, it should not break on weird characters.
* Thunderbird should open with the corresponding files attached.
* [For regression testing] Set Evolution as the default.
* Open Nautilus and try to attach two files to the same email. They can be
creatively named, it should not break on weird characters. It only attaches one
file, this is however not a regression.

[Bug 2036647] Journal log

2023-09-21 Thread Nathan Teodosio
Yesterday I got crashes whenever I tried to maximize it or resize it.

I started Ubuntu on Wayland from SDDM though.

After I started it from GDM I no longer reproduce the problem, although
I rebooted in between so...

I didn't get a crash file in /var/crash. I attach the journal from
yesterday, filtered for gnome-terminal. You can see 3 segfaults, and I
think that is indeed the number of times I tried the terminal before
giving up on it.

2023-08-22 Thread Nathan Teodosio

GTK4 4.12.0+ds-1ubuntu1 fails to build[1] because of the checkerboard
build tests.

Those were regarded as flaky by upstream and disabled accordingly. So I
propose doing the same.

Test build performed in PPA[2].

Public bug reported:

In Wayland,

- Open Chromium or Firefox
- Go to https://mozilla.github.io/webrtc-landing/gum_test.html
- Start full screen capture
- Drag some windows around

Expected: The movement of each window is reproduced in the screen cast smoothly
and immediately.
Observed: It takes a couple of seconds until each moved window's position is
verified in the screen cast.

The issue does not appear in Xorg.

2023-05-24 Thread Nathan Teodosio
My understanding is that if the update both works for most windows and
does not introduce any regression, putting verification-failed would
prevent it from landing for all users, which would be counterproductive.

Instead, it would be beneficial to open a new bug reporting your
findings for the snap windows you mentioned.

[Bug 2007652] Re: [snap] PWA don't launch as applications, just another chromium window

2023-04-17 Thread Nathan Teodosio
I can verify that in Bionic (with the deb) the application shows in
Gnome's task bar as a separate application, not grouped under Chromium,
and that in Lunar (with the snap) it shows in Gnome's task bar grouped
under the Chromium button.

However,

1. Wmctrl shows that the window classes and names are consistent,

--> Lunar <--
0x01c3 0 chromium.Chromium
0x01c00011 0 crx_mdpkiolbdkhdjpekf.Chromium

--> Bionic <--
0x01c3 0 chromium-browser.Chromium-browser
0x01c00019 0 crx_mdpkiolbdkhdjpekf.Chromium-browserChat

2. The bug is absent from both Unity and Icewm (see attachments).

So I think this is a regression in Gnome Shell from Ubuntu 20.04 vs
Ubuntu 18.04.

That is not what happens though; rather the old binding is not
relinquished.

Super + o
-

Assigning this gives no such notice as above, however it is assigned
disable orientation lock.

I followed the answer in
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1179858/disable-orientation-lock-
shortcut-super-o-in-ubuntu-18-04-gnome, namely

  gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys
rotate-video-lock-static []
  log out/log in

and now the shortcut works.

Conclusion

gnome-control-center should either say it's not possible to map such
combinations or honor the override.

** Description changed:

Single clicking the title bar of windows without a complex title bar
(namely a title bar with additional buttons besides the

+ Reproduction recipe:
+
+ 1. Open gnome-terminal.
+ 2. Run xedit.
+ 3. Focus gnome-terminal.
+ 4. Click Xedit's title bar.
+
+ Expected: Xedit has focus.
+ Observed: gnome-terminal retains focus.
+ .
+ 5. Focus Xedit.
+ 6. Click gnome-terminal's title bar.

alternative path.

  sudo bash sssd-gdm-smartcard-pam-auth-tester.sh

outputs a bunch during some 20 s. I saw some prompts for password for
short durations but I guess those weren't meant for the user because I
typed nothing and it nonetheless "finishes successfully". However, I
fail to see how this affects GDM. I did not get any log in prompt in
GDM, I didn't see GDM.

So I tried

  WAIT=1 sudo bash sssd-gdm-smartcard-pam-auth-tester.sh

This killed the GUI and after some time of black screen GDM popped up
normally. I could only log in with my normal user credentials.

[Bug 1998591] [NEW] Misbehavior in login keys

2022-12-02 Thread Nathan Teodosio
Public bug reported:

These are the steps that I used to reproduce the issue:

Open Seahorse and click the entry below the passwords tab (in my system
it's called "Login"). Now,

  snap install --stable chromium
  snap connect chromium:password-manager-service
  snap run chromium

Nothing new showed up in Seahorse, but it should have, since Chromium
stored a password there via the desktop portal.

Now close Seahorse and launch it again, and you will see one of two
things:

  1. A new entry (corresponding to Chromium) shows up; or
  2. The password tab is entirely gone.

In case 2, the ways I found to bring it back was to either log out or
gnome-keyring-daemon -r.

[Bug 1998497] [NEW] "Always on top" window prevents new windows from taking focus

2022-12-01 Thread Nathan Teodosio
Public bug reported:

1. Launch a terminal
2. Launch something from it, say 'xlogo &'
3. Put xlogo always on top by right clicking its title bar and selecting that
option.
4. Back to the terminal, open a new window, preferentially something whose lack
of input focus is evident, e.g. 'zenity --password'.

Expected: New window has focus (you can type right away into zenity).
Observed: Old window has focus.

[Bug 1993809] Re: Update gnome-shell to 42.5

2022-10-31 Thread Nathan Teodosio
I verified the SRU by installing the gnome-shell from proposed,
42.5-0ubuntu1. The test succeeded.

I followed the test cases in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DesktopTeam/TestPlans/GNOMEShell.

For the test case 1, I couldn't notice any problem in any of the 4
sessions, with moving windows, tiling, application panel etc.

For the test case 2, I enabled all the extensions without error. To the
best of my knowledge of their functionality, they behaved fine. I also
installed Hexchat and confirmed that the tray icon showed up, so the
Appindicator extension is working.

[Bug 1976623] Re: SRU for evolution 3.44.4

2022-09-01 Thread Nathan Teodosio
Okay, I tested again and I cannot reproduce that #3 bug in neither
3.44.1-0ubuntu1 nor 3.44.4-0ubuntu1[1].

However, there is a problem in Xorg for both versions: Two identical
dialog windows pop up for Oauth2 authentication when including a new
account. It is a non-blocking bug though, because responding to either
window causes the mail to be correctly retrieved.

Interestingly, interrupting Evolution (i.e. Ctrl+C) causes one and only
one of those pop-up windows to survive.

Since it only happens on Xorg, it could be related to LP: #1983794.

[Bug 1976623] Re: SRU for evolution 3.44.4

2022-08-31 Thread Nathan Teodosio
Sorry, I got confused in the sea of version numbers, so my previous
comment is off the mark in its assumptions.

It seems we didn't land any Jammy SRU for 3.44.2 onwards since the one
in jammy-updates is 3.44.1-0ubuntu1.

Since adding a GMail account does work for me in 3.44.1-0ubuntu1, it is
a regression indeed.

Yes Chris, those were my observations for the 3.44.3 SRU. The bug has
since been updated into a 3.44.4 SRU, and it seems it already landed in
jammy-updates, so it's already fix released?

Adding a GMail account does work for me in 3.44.1-0ubuntu1. I'd call it
a "progression" instead of "regression".

I couldn't get the crash with >gnome-control-center

I verified that I get no crash >gnome-control-center

[Bug 1983794] Re: Evolution not deleting autosave files

Hey Lindsay, judging by

$ apt rdepends libcanberra-gtk3-module
libcanberra-gtk3-module
Reverse Depends:
  Depends: ubuntu-mate-desktop
  Depends: ubuntu-mate-core
  Depends: screenruler
  Depends: python3-goocalendar
  Suggests: budgie-control-center
  Suggests: gnome-control-center
  Recommends: libcanberra-gtk3-0

You can't uninstall it without uninstalling your MATE desktop as well.

That doesn't mean you can't disable it, as in

  cd /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gtk-3.0/modules
  mv libcanberra-gtk3-module.so libcanberra-gtk3-module.so.disabled

However you would then you would be on your own.

This was really mostly tracked down by Milan, kudos to him!

[Bug 1983794] Re: Evolution not deleting autosave files

2022-08-18 Thread Nathan Teodosio
Hey Lindsay, don't worry, this is just meant to keep information out
there. :)

So, although disabling the patches didn't make an effect for a typical
"Ubuntu on Xorg" (as in GDM's cog option), if I use a more minimal
environment, such as if I log in a console and just `startx /bin/dwm`,
the bug doesn't show up, either with patched or not patched GTK.

Another difference is that upon closing Evolution the following warning
is logged in stderr:

Your application did not unregister from D-Bus before destruction.

[Bug 1983794] Re: Evolution not deleting autosave files

2022-08-17 Thread Nathan Teodosio
Thank you for the bug report!

I rebuilt and installed GTK3 with Ubuntu specific patches disabled, but
the problem still occurs in Xorg. :/

In two occasions I got

(evolution:3367): evolution-mail-composer-CRITICAL **: 20:45:02.635:
e_msg_composer_is_soft_busy: assertion 'E_IS_MSG_COMPOSER (composer)' failed
(evolution:3367): module-composer-autosave-CRITICAL **: 20:45:02.635:
e_composer_save_snapshot: assertion 'E_IS_MSG_COMPOSER (composer)' failed

in stderr. We could hardly wish for a better trail to follow.

With fatal-criticals one can backtrace that, though I still don't know
what triggers it.

the icon-theme no longer changes when entering the appearance menu,

[Bug 1976623] Re: SRU for evolution 3.44.3

2022-07-07 Thread Nathan Teodosio
Merge request for ubuntu/jammy proposed at Salsa:

  https://salsa.debian.org/gnome-team/evolution/-/merge_requests/5

Please note that, for Gmail, I could not get the Google Authentication
Request to work and thus could not access my mail. After allowing
Evolution access, it gets stuck in "Requesting access token, please
wait..." or gets past that but the account item in the folder list shows
"failed to connect". However, that is both for 3.44.2-0ubuntu1 and
3.44.3-0ubuntu1, so this is not a problem introduced by the latter, and
other accounts such as Microsoft's work fine.

to work via gbp and request merge to ubuntu/master on Salsa, and I
forgot to add the bug number there. Sorry and thanks for manually

[Bug 1975521] [NEW] Please merge shotwell 0.30.16-1 (main) from Debian unstable

2022-05-23 Thread Nathan Teodosio
Public bug reported:

Following is a breakdown of the latest Ubuntu changes (in 0.30.14) and if
they are still or no longer needed.

Where "Debian diff" is mentioned below, I mean the diff between the Debian
package 0.30.34-1 and 0.30.36-1, attached as deb-deb.diff.

__

* debian/build-_LIB-is-expected-to-be-a-relative-path.patch:
  - fix an incorrect path handling making plugins not found (LP: #1969439)

No longer needed: Incorporated into Debian (line 3090 of Debian diff).

__

* Cherry-pick patch to also set dark wallpaper (LP: #1965812)

No longer needed: Incorporated into Debian (line 21688 of Debian diff).

__

* debian/patches/build_new_valac.patch:
  - fix the build with the new valac version

No longer needed: Addressed in Debian (lines 22055 and 22364 of Debian
diff)

__

* Use the correct name for the unity build option
* debian/rules:
  - enable unity and apport build options

No longer needed: Addressed in lines 128-140 of Debian diff.

__

* debian/control.in:
  - Build-Depends on libunity-dev

No longer needed: Incorporated (line 57 of Debian diff).

__

* debian/debian/replace_thumbnailer.sh,
  debian/shotwell-common.README.Debian, debian/shotwell.examples,
  debian/shotwell.postrm, shotwell.README.Debian:
  - clean out thumbnailer hacks, that's not user friendly and not
something we should recommend

Still needed.

__

I tested the resulting package (generated by applying deb-ubu.debdiff)
with pbuilder, and verified no regressions concerning the aforementioned
LP: #1969439 and LP: #1965812.
