[Bug 1448187] [NEW] location-service should return the correct error source

2015-04-24 Thread Nekhelesh Ramananthan
Public bug reported:

The Location of the user can fail for several reasons,
- User not allowing trust-store to give location access to an app
- GPS service being disabled by the user
- Random error

Upstream Qt PositionSource provides the sourceError property [1] that
allows apps to recognize this error type. At the moment ubuntu location-
service just returns AccessError for all purposes. Knowing the exact
type of error will immensely help apps recognize why it failed and keep
their user informed.

[Bug 841409] Re: GEdit is the only choice as Calendar application in Default Applications dialog

2013-03-18 Thread Nekhelesh Ramananthan
Rainer, we understand the situation however there are no proper calendar
applications available. Sure there is Lightning as an add-on for
Thunderbird, however I don't think it is included by default. Probably a
bug report is to be opened in Thunderbird to include. We are working on
a calendar app for the Ubuntu Touch phone. And if it becomes mature,
sure it might even become default on the desktop but until then we just
have to wait a bit.

[Bug 682788] Re: Improve Unity menus

2012-09-13 Thread Nekhelesh Ramananthan
What I do not understand is that the official design decision has been
made by the Ayatana team (John Lea). So I do not see why the
disagreements should stop the development. Besides can't the final
decision be made after user testing this like in other situations?

[Bug 976624] Re: Add support for keywords

2012-08-22 Thread Nekhelesh Ramananthan
Chris, these keywords are used *only* for the sole purpose of improving
the matching in the dash. Currently, a new user can find totem in the
dash by explicitly searching for totem, movie. However the keywords will
help the user find totem using other generic terms such as Film, DVD etc
etc.. They do not appear in any form in the user-visible UI.

Bryce, this has been fix released upstream. I agree that this is not a

fact I am guessing it will automatically come in from upstream if totem

[Bug 979699] Re: Display on external monitor reverts to double display at restart

2012-04-13 Thread Nekhelesh Ramananthan
Thank you for taking your time to report this bug to make Ubuntu better.
I can confirm this issue on my system as well. Hence marking confirmed.

** Also affects: unity
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Tags added: multimonitor

** Changed in: unity
   Status: New = Confirmed

** Changed in: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu)
   Status: New = Confirmed

** Summary changed:

- Display on external monitor reverts to double display at restart
+ Display on external monitor reverts to mirror display on restart and logout

** Description changed:

I'm sorry I don't know what package this is related to.
Edit: Thank you Fabio Marconi for identifying the package.

My problem is that the system doesn't remember my display configuration when
I reboot my netbook.
I have an external monitor plugged to my laptop, and I use this monitor as my
principal and only display (laptop screen not used). But when I restart my
computer, even though the screen stays plugged in, the display goes back to
same image on both monitors. I have to use the shortcut Fn + F4 to go back
to my preferred configuration every time I boot up my computer.

  Steps to reproduce:
- 1. Plug in external monitor with VGA
- 2. Choose the external monitor as your main and only monitor
- 3. Reboot
+ 1. Plug in external monitor with VGA, HDMI port
+ 2. Choose the external monitor as your main and only monitor or as an
extended display.
+ 3. Reboot or log off.
  4. The display configuration is back to same image on both monitors

  Expected behaviour:
The system should remember the user's favourite display configuration for a
better work-flow. A lot of people use their laptop as a desktop with a bigger
monitor plugged into it.

2012-04-13 Thread Nekhelesh Ramananthan
Stephane, for me this problem exists on both log out and restart.
However this is only during the login screen and boot process. Once I am
logged into the Unity desktop, it is automatically restored to the
previous configuration I set it to. Can you confirm if this is the case
for you as well?

[Bug 938748] Re: Add Unity Quicklist support

2012-02-27 Thread Nekhelesh Ramananthan
@Barneedhar, ah that's the mistake I made. Sorry but I am new to Ubuntu
development. However you say you are not sure if this will be accepted
upstream. I'll report a bug report in gnome for this. Also since the
user interface is in effect, I am guessing this wont be possible this
cycle?

[Bug 942176] [NEW] Integrate Startup Applications into the gnome control center

2012-02-27 Thread Nekhelesh Ramananthan
Public bug reported:

As per the Ayatana mailing list, there was a discussion about
integrating the startup application menu option into the gnome control
settings since it would be more appropriate. A user does not change the
startup applications every day or more frequently than that. Hence it
does not seem logical to place it in the power cog menu for quick
access. It would nice for it to be integrated into the gnome-control-
center.

[Bug 942182] [NEW] Disable login sound option

2012-02-27 Thread Nekhelesh Ramananthan
Public bug reported:

The login sound in Precise can now be disabled by unchecking it in the
startup applications. However this is just a hack. Here is the
discussion on the ayatana mailing list.

I agree startup applications is not something that you would use
frequently and the only item inside is the Gnome Login Sound (which i
also believe is not the correct place for it either, as i was looking
how to disable startup sound a few days ago in more logical places like
user accounts or sounds but did not find it , so i had to do an online
instructions search...).

Agree, that's a terrible place for the login sound - it's a hack
surfaced to the user. Please file a bug.

Mark

I propose that it being integrated into the sound menu or the user
accounts menu as an option.

[Bug 938748] Re: Add Unity Quicklist support

2012-02-23 Thread Nekhelesh Ramananthan
Well I branched the latest gedit using bzr branch ubuntu:gedit. And in
the folder data, there is the desktop file gedit.desktop.in.in. If you
open that file you will see the unity quicklist support Open new
window.

[Bug 732569] Re: weather applet freezes on clicking refresh

2011-03-18 Thread Nekhelesh Ramananthan
I tried reproducing the error without Firefox running and it happens.
Infact I just restarted the system and reproduced the error. But as I
mentioned earlier it only happens when I choose Google as my weather
data provider. Hence I am going to stick with Yahoo to be on the safe
side. :)

And I'll do the crash report to nautilus.

This freezing has never happened before.. So yeah..
