[Bug 1967597] [NEW] Evolution cannot get Gmail authorisation
Public bug reported: I have upgraded from 21.10 to 22.04 beta and am trying to set-up Evolution. Right now I am trying to add my Gmail account using the new account wizard. I insert my name and gmail address and then Evolution tries to connect to the GMail authorization page to allow me to enter my password. This opens in a new window and I would expect to see a small embedded web page where I enter my GMail credentials. Instead the window opens but where the embedded web page should be is instead just a small box showing a URL to the Google service. This URL shortly disappears and I am unable to proceed. All I can do is cancel out of the wizard and the account never gets added. One thought which may be relevant is I recently had MS Edge installed and previously I have been able to add an account. I have recently removed this and so instead have just the snap of Firefox installed. Might there be a dependency of Evolution on a browser to provide this web view, and in which case might it not be able to get it from the snap of Firefox? Just a guess. Thanks. [Bug 1967596] [NEW] Gnome on-screen keyboard unreliable
Public bug reported: I have upgrade from 21.10 to 22.04 Beta on my Microsoft Surface Go 2 tablet. I generally use it via the tough screen but I also have a type cover I can attach. There are a number of instances where the on-screen keyboard does not appear or does not prove the required input. Examples are as follows: - Firefox (snap) - trying to enter credentials into the Bitwarden extension. Tapping into the text fields does not bring up the keyboard. - Pycharm (snap) - creating a new project in the start-up wizard, tapping in the filename box does not bring up the on screen keyboard. - When you lock the tablet and then try to unlock it via the Gnome unlock screen, tapping in the password box does bring up the keyboard but any keys pressed do not appear in the password box. All of the above can be worked around by attaching the Type Cover and using the physical keyboard. If I an collect any diagnostic data for this please send me the instructions ans I'll see what I can do. [Bug 1910938] Re: Text is missing from shell panel and menus
Just got a new Lenovo Thinkpad and using Ubuntu 20.04, and I think I'm seeing a very similar issue. After leaving the laptop on for so long eventually a ton of the text menues and displays either show NO text at all, or half of the characters are missing. I'll attempt a screenshot the next time it happens, it doesn't take longer than a day it seems as already reported. I also use Discord so I wonder if that is part of the culprit as well. Will try using without Discord for about a day. I have found a simple logout/login is enough to fix all text menues. So it doesn't seem a full reboot is strictly necessary. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to mutter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1910938 Title: Text is missing from shell panel and menus To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1910938/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1927948] Re: Windows switch monitor after resuming from sleep
Its a shame a new issue was created for this. The problem has been around for over 7 years and by creating a new ticket it looses just how many people this affects. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1295267 In my case, I have 3 monitors connected to a Dell Latitude laptop. One of the monitors seems to take longer to wake up than the others. As stated by others, this delay causes some windows to move from one to another. Chrome's windows are stable, but they implemented everything them selves so we can exclude them. Gnome terminals, Remmina windows, KeePassX all move around. It is related to the slow monitor issue because Gnome terminals often get resized which indicates they have been migrated to another windows and squished to fit the smaller resolution. Maybe a fix would be to allow a delay to be set between waking up the screen and when they appear so we don't trigger the shuffling of windows. However really the issue is they are not being restored back to their original position after monitor plug events. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to mutter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1927948 Title: Windows switch monitor after resuming from sleep To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-shell/+bug/1927948/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I run into the issue when autostart feature of flameshot is activate. I daresay there is some sort of race condition while system startup, and the actual issue is in the gnome-shell-extension-appindicator package. There is something in diff between 33-1 and 34-1 versions that is breaking the app icon. [Bug 1872522] Re: Ubuntu software will not install .deb files on focal fossa
I can help complete his notes by adding details to this bug. The specific issue is that when downloading .deb files from an external source, i.e. www.chrome.com and you download the .deb to your computer and double click the completed file it will in fact not open in software to engage the software install process. I have found that double clicking invokes the action of opening the archive with archive manager and trying to "unzip" the file instead of install it. I have tried manually setting the file to "open with" "Ubuntu Software". I have found that installing with gdebi works and also by using dpkg -i via terminal. Thanks I hope this helps. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-software in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1872522 Title: Ubuntu software will not install .deb files on focal fossa To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-software/+bug/1872522/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1857744] [NEW] gnome shell fails to fullscreen unredirect
Public bug reported: When playing videos in mpv set with fairly heavy settings under gnome (x11), playback is choppy, even in fullscreen, after upgrading to 19.10. Previously this would only occur in windowed playback, which makes me strongly suspect it's an issue with compositor unredirecting. I initially suspected https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome- shell/issues/1788 , but it seems the fix for that was already backported. I installed arch linux on a separate partition and installed the newer gnome shell 3.34.2, and with the same video and settings the playback was smooth. [Bug 1728143] [NEW] Screen freezes after waking from suspend with Gnome on Wayland
Public bug reported: It appears that using Xorg instead of Wayland is the only way to fix this problem on Ubuntu 17.10. For some odd reason, whenever I wake my computer from suspend (especially after an extended period of time asleep) using Gnome in a Wayland session (gnome-session and stock ubuntu-session alike), my screen freezes completely on whatever was last there before suspending and I can't get any IO response at all. Nothing, the screen is totally frozen. I am also unable to exit into a recovery shell or kill GDM or gnome-session/ubuntu-session locally. I also can't seem to find any traces or indications for the freeze in the syslog, or maybe I'm just not sure where to look. I believe this is a problem with GDM on Wayland, not kernel related, as it happens on a totally stock install and when I use an upgraded/downgraded kernel. It literally necessitates restarting my computer. This problem is nonexistent when using Xorg instead of Wayland with GDM. Anyone else have this issue on Ubuntu 17.10 or figure out a solution better than simply switching to Xorg? I should clarify that I am not using nvidia drivers, I'm using Intel integrated graphics on a core-i7 5500U. Ubuntu 17.10 uses gnome-session v3.26.1. Expected behavior: When waking computer from suspend, expect GDM lock prompt and log back in. What happened instead: When waking computer from suspend, screen and IO is completely frozen, necessitating a force-shutdown. ** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: gnome-session (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: wayland (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: gdm gnome-17.10 gnome-session suspend-resume ** Also affects: gnome-session (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: wayland (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1728143 Title: Screen freezes after waking from suspend with Gnome on Wayland To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm/+bug/1728143/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1681295] [NEW] Problem in network-manager-openvpn, openvpn fails during and after downloads.
Public bug reported: So I've been using OpenVPN through the network-manager-openvpn package integrated into the network manager GUI. I experienced an odd problem where consistently, during or after downloading (in this case, I tested by just downloading the kernel tarball from kernel.org repeatedly, which is around 90MB) Every single time, without fail, the openvpn client would fail and my connection would go dead. To reconnect, I would have to manually restart the network manager. Now, I played around with .conf files and the CLI openvpn client and noticed EXACTLY the same behavior happening. I eventually arrived to the conclusion that the flag or option "auth-nocache" would cause a connection reset after or during downloads and streaming. I then got to reading the openvpn man pages and I stumbled across this message (you can easily find it by going 'man openvpn | grep nocache') about the guaranteed failure of key renegotiation if auth-user-pass and auth-nocache were used together: " Further, using --daemon together with --auth-user-pass (entered on console) and --auth-nocache will fail as soon as key renego‐ tiation (and reauthentication) occurs." When I removed auth-user-pass from my .conf files, the problem went away. Then I wondered. Now what if...network-manager-openvpn was actually passing both flags to openvpn? Then I downloaded the source tarball and found that indeed, this exact thing is happening on a SINGLE line. See line 1380 of network-manager-openvpn-1.1.93/src/nm-openvpn-service.c "add_openvpn_arg (args, "--auth-nocache");" So I decided to comment out that single line. I then rebuilt the packages network-manager-openvpn and network-manager-openvpn using 'dpkg-buildpackage -us -uc -nc', installed them, and tested downloading the source kernel repeatedly to see if the connection would hold. It does! Literally commenting out ONE line fixed weeks worth of extreme annoyance repeatedly reconnecting to my vpn. This issue is rather annoying and needs to be fixed so openvpn doesn't keep cutting out. I've attached a patch for the source. ** Affects: network-manager-openvpn (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: network-manager network-manager-openvpn openvpn ** Patch added: "The following patch removes the single offending line which causes this issue." https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1681295/+attachment/4859305/+files/nm-openvpn-service-fix.patch ** Also affects: network-manager-openvpn (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** No longer affects: network-manager (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to network-manager-openvpn in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1681295 Title: Problem in network-manager-openvpn, openvpn fails during and after downloads. Re: [Bug 1491666] Re: System Monitor hangs when network offline
Thanks Timo. Let me, though, and briefly, restate my reasoning about the network problem: this problem makes it hard - impossible for some people - to do something many of them will have a strong need to do; therefore, whatever its origin, Mint should try to fix or work-around it. Compare: if I run a hotel and the government should provide my electricity, and yet fails so to do, then, while I wait for the government to fulfil its obligations, I had better install a generator. For otherwise my guests will leave. NJ On 04/09/2015 01:24, Timo Palomaa wrote: >> Thanks for all that. About Ubuntu: there is a limit to how many bug > trackers I will create accounts for. Thanks for all that. About Ubuntu: there is a limit to how many bug trackers I will create accounts for. I am user, not a developer. And even if this networking problem (in its wider version, whereby one needs special software and fiddly config to make auto mounted shares work properly) owes to Ubuntu, I think Mint needs to fix it. [Bug 1115886] Re: Can't change wallpaper unless /org/gnome/desktop/background/show-desktop-icons is true.
I couldn't replicate the problem of not being able to change the wallpaper, but toggling that setting causes problems with the fade animation of changing the wallpaper. I opened dconf-editor, and it looks like the box was unchecked by default (even though in gnome-tweak-tool, have file manager handle the desktop is on). I checked it to enable it (org.gnome.desktop.background .show-desktop-icons) then changed the wallpaper and it worked as expected. When I toggled that setting off again I was still able to change the wallpaper but it didn't fade in between wallpapers, it was an abrupt change.
