[Bug 249373] Re: gnome-session storing broken in intrepid

2009-03-13 Thread Nicholas Allen
This bug is a serious regression and it's the reason I moved to KDE.
KDE's not perfect but at least basic things like this work.

[Bug 249373] Re: gnome session does not restore the previous session

2008-11-03 Thread Nicholas Allen
This is an extremely bad and annoying feature regression. It's a show
blocker and should not have been released. It must have been known about
before release. It's things like this that will drive users away from
Ubuntu and Linux. Absolutely unacceptable!

[Bug 249373] Re: gnome session does not restore the previous session

2008-11-03 Thread Nicholas Allen
Sorry if you found my tone was inappropriate. I certainly didn't mean to
offend any of the developers or volunteers who work to make Ubuntu such
a great product. I am very grateful for all the hard work they are doing
and Ubuntu is by far my favorite OS!

However, I do believe it is unacceptable from a user's point of view
that a release of Ubuntu should be made with this known feature
broken/unimplemented when it worked perfectly well in all previous
releases. Canonical has paid employees and releases a product that users
pay for support for so there should be a level of quality control that
would catch major problems like this before a new release is made. Even
the most basic testing would have uncovered this.

My frustration is not with the developers, or the people who take care
of bug tracking, but with the lack of quality control at Canonical that
allowed something like this to make it into a new release of Ubuntu.
This is a serious regression and I really can't believe Canonical wasn't
aware of it before release.

[Bug 160606] removes music files one by one when music stored on external drive is unmounted

2007-11-06 Thread Nicholas Allen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

My music is stored on an external usb disk. If I start rythmbox without
the drive connected or not mounted then I see the count of total songs
in the library go down one by one. In previous versions of rythmbox the
music on my external drive was removed from the collection immediately
and reappeared immediately when I connected it again. This was much much
better. Even if I mount the drive while rb is loaded the count is still
going down. I have to quit and restart for it to go back up again. Can
the old behavior be resurrected?

2007-04-24 Thread Nicholas Allen
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 63090 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/63090

This is a really annoying bug. How did this ever get past the beta phase?
Surely someone tried to remove a USB disc as a test case
Or are the users of Feisty the beta testers?

[Bug 26017] Re: Ubuntu's graphical network configuration doesn't work at all

2006-08-14 Thread Nicholas Allen
I no longer use network-admin for my wireless network as I use network-
manager now so I am not sure if it still exists. I don't really want to
mess with my network settings now everything is working so smoothly so I
guess you can close the bug then.

[Bug 50843] There is no preferences application for localization

2006-07-08 Thread Nicholas Allen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: preferences

I would expect there to be a simple way that the user can cofigure what
language they want to use for their desktop and how numbers should be
presented, default currency etc. In fact a user may speak multiple
languages so they should be allowed to give a preferred list of
languages. If an app can't present itself in the first language then it
tries the next one.

KDE has this but I cannot find the equivalent in GNOME. I know it is
possible to set the language at the GDM login screen but that is not
adequate. I have users that login remotely and thus don't go through
GDM. Also the other settings like currency and how to display numbers
cannot go on the GDM screen anyway! Every other OS has these features so
I think this is quite a significant problem for Ubuntu and GNOME.

[Bug 47771] Totem automatically exits if can't play sound

2006-05-31 Thread Nicholas Allen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

If I su to another user on my system and then try to run totem it
complains with the message:

Totem could not startup.
Could not establish connection to sound server

There is only an OK button and clicking on it exits totem. It would be
better if sound was simply disabled in totem and totem did not exit.

[Bug 47459] Cannot add files on remote shares via Edit/Add

2006-05-30 Thread Nicholas Allen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: serpentine

If I select Edit/Add then it is not possible to add an audio file that
is on a remote share (eg Samba). However, if I drag the files into
Serpentine then it seems to work. The file selector only allows local
files but there does not seem to be a good reason for this.

[Bug 47461] Totem cannot be used to play files in the CD creator

2006-05-30 Thread Nicholas Allen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Drag a movie file into the CD creator folder and then double click it to
play it. Totem gives an error message

Totem could not play 'burn:///Eigene Videos/Windows Movie Maker-
Beispieldatei.wmv'.

No URI handler implemented for burn.

This makes the cd creator not very useful as often you want to preview
the file before burning and make sure you selected the correct movie.
Instead you have to remember where it was copied from, and double click
it there (this can be annoying if it was on a remote network share it
needs to be downloaded again and can be a hassle to find.
