[Bug 146206] Re: files are copied to a local directory before being extracted
I wrote about this 4 years ago. http://linuxtechie.wordpress.com/2010/01/05/file-roller-is-terribly- inefficient/ You hit the exact same points I did. I no longer use Gnome anymore but it's sad to see this stupidity still hasn't been fixed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/146206 Title: files are copied to a local directory before being extracted To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/file-roller/+bug/146206/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Compiling gnome-panel with '--with-in-process-applets=notification-area' in debian/rules (and no other changes), fixes this bug for me. I have uploaded modified gnome-panel packages to my PPA: https://launchpad.net/~cyfex/+archive/ppa in case others want to try this (you need gnome-panel and gnome-panel-data; killall bonobo- activation-server and gnome-panel after installation) Actually using --with-in-process-applets=notification-area isn't necessary. In previous releases it's been compiled with --with-in-process-applets=all but this line has been commented out in Lucid. [Bug 438520] Re: Right Alt key is always selected under key to choose 3rd level
This may be a bug in the debian-installer. I can't reproduce this with the live CD. When installed from the alternate CD or mini iso, XKBOPTIONS=lv3:ralt_switch is added to /etc/default/console-setup. Commenting out that option and rebooting fixes the issue, but I'm unsure why that was set in the first place. ** Also affects: debian-installer Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Right Alt key is always selected under key to choose 3rd level https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/438520 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 438520] [NEW] Right Alt key is always selected under key to choose 3rd level
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center On a fresh install of Karmic, under the keyboard layout options, the right Alt key is selected under Key to Choose 3rd Level. I'm not even sure what the 3rd level is, as I've never needed this setting before. On Jaunty, there is nothing set under this option. As a result on Karmic, this breaks the right Alt key. For example right Alt+F2 doesn't do anything. But when you try to uncheck this option, it doesn't remember the setting. The next time you open the layout options, it's checked again. There seems to be no way to uncheck this option. What should happen 1. Open System Preferences Keyboard 2. Go to the Layouts tab 3. Click Layout Options 4. Expand Key to Choose 3rd Level 5. Uncheck Right Alt 5. Close the Layout Options window 6. Reopen Layout Options 7. Nothing should be checked under Key to Choose 3rd Level What happens instead Right Alt is still selected after unchecking it, closing the Layout Options window and reopening it. [Bug 375260] [NEW] gnome-power-manager doesn't properly detect power state
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager gnome-power-manager doesn't correctly detect the power state on my laptop (HP Pavilion dv6500t). When I pull the AC plug out it detects that it was unplugged because the battery icon shows up in the notification area. However when I hover over the icon it still says that it's running on AC power. This makes the on battery power management settings invalid since it still thinks it's running on AC. i.e. the screen doesn't dim, the screen doesn't turn off after 15 minutes as specified for On battery power etc. Steps to reproduce 1. Unplug AC power cord 2. Wait for battery icon to appear in the notification area 3. Hover over the icon with the mouse and notice it says that it's running on AC when it's clearly running on battery 4. Notice that none of the on battery power preferences take effect since it still thinks it's on AC power What should happen Batter icon should appear and indicate that it is running on battery power and on battery power preferences should be in effect. This might be specific to this model of laptop as I have another laptop I can't reproduce this on. [Bug 45544] Re: Notifications overlap the bottom panel.
I've been looking into this and figured it out that the problem is somewhere in the 03_fix_xinerama_stack_c.patch patch for the notification-daemon. I built packages of the new release of libnotify 0.4.5 and notification-daemon 0.4.0 in my PPA hoping the fix would be in the new release, but after installing them I saw the same problem. I rebuilt notification-daemon without the 03_fix_xinerama_stack_c.patch patch and the notifications don't overlap the panels anymore. [Bug 112518] Re: Switch User freezes at blank screen
Yes, I've gotten it to work correctly with Metacity. I think it has something to do with the SyncToVblank option in Compiz. I'm going to try disabling SyncToVblank in Compiz in both user accounts and try to switch users. -- Switch User freezes at blank screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/112518 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 95368] Re: (feisty) unmounting a device icon on desktop gives an error dialog
I was getting this same error. Cannot Unmount Volume Cannot Remove Directory Removing /media/.hal-mtab fixed the problem. It does seem to only happen when there are stale entries in /media/.hal-mtab I'm guessing it was from having multiple drives plugged in. -- (feisty) unmounting a device icon on desktop gives an error dialog https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/95368 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

It's obvious this isn't a Desktop Effects issue. Oops. Happens with KDM too it seems. Marking this one as Invalid for now.
