[Bug 1067700] [NEW] Sound Settings crashes when USB audio mixer selected as input

2012-10-17 Thread NoahY
Public bug reported:

This bug is a regression, I think; I was having this same problem before
upgrading to 12.10, then installed a patched version of some file (can't
remember which, and can't find the old bug report, sadly). Now with the
upgrade, when opening Sound Settings and selecting my Alesis Multimix
USB mixer, the dialog crashes with the following in syslog:

gnome-control-c[4009]: segfault at 7fffa3efcd48 ip 7f56af59e9f2 sp
7fffa3efcc10 error 6 in libc-2.15.so[7f56af556000+1b5000]

If I try setting the mixer as default use pacmd, Sound Settings crashes
on opening.

Hey Conor,

Yes, that seems to do it. Commenting out that line, then

killall pulseaudio

and my mixer works fine again.

Thanks for taking a look at this.

Yes, it's reproducible every time. As soon as I click on the entry for
the mixer (Input tab, Record sound from PCM2900 Audio Codec Analog
Stereo), the Sound window crashes.

It is only since the Sound control panel changed to a new look.

[Bug 835812] [NEW] oversized grey box in notification panel for empathy

2011-08-27 Thread NoahY
Public bug reported:

I actually don't think this is solely an empathy bug, but it is
certainly related to empathy. There is a grey box below the networking
icon on the notification bar, and it turns to an empathy status icon
when empathy is opened. Maybe this is just a work-in-progress thing,
but it really gets in the way of, say, the search box in Firefox (see
screenshots).

[Bug 558904] Re: gstreamer no longer playing nonfree media files

2010-04-19 Thread NoahY
Okay, I somehow fixed it... first I deleted (moved) all gstreamer files
I could find on the system, then purged all of the gstreamer packages
using dpkg --force-all --purge and then reinstalled them. That didn't
work right away, but then I found out that it was only that one user who
had a problem, so I removed the ~/.gstreamer-0.10 folder (which I had
done previously to no avail) and when it rebuilt the database, all was
well.

Thanks for the help, sorry to be a bother.

[Bug 562544] [NEW] using Del key to delete files inhibits keyboard typing and window placement

2010-04-13 Thread NoahY
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Sometimes when I use the Del key to delete a file in nautilus, I am
thereafter unable to type anything on the keyboard, access the right
click menu, move a window on the desktop, or access the main (start)
menu. I am able to open a file by double-clicking, min/max windows,
highlight text in text boxes, etc. I am trying now to repeat it, but it
seems only to happen on occasion. I am afraid I can't figure out what
triggers it, apart from saying that the Del key sometimes causes this
behaviour. The only way I have found to regain control is by
CTRL+ALT+F1 and then CTRL+ALT+F7 back to the gui.

[Bug 558904] [NEW] gstreamer no longer playing nonfree media files

2010-04-08 Thread NoahY
Public bug reported:

I've never had a problem with playing restricted formats in Ubuntu,
until upgrading to Lucid development branch. Not sure what happened,
but now when I click on an mp4 or flv video in nautilus, it opens up
totem and asks whether I would like to search for a suitable codec. I
let it search, and it finds nothing, so it starts playing the audio
only. At first, even mplayer and vlc would also no longer play the
files. mplayer gave an error on startup as follows:

mplayer: error while loading shared libraries: libopencore-amrnb.so.0:
wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32

So, I built libopencore-amrnb0 from source and installed it and now
mplayer and vlc are playing the videos fine. Totem still refuses to
recognize the videos. I assume I've done something to bork my system,
but I would appreciate any input or suggestions for further debugging
this problem.

Thanks to everyone for their work.
