[Bug 860600] Re: Media keys aren't working (Ubuntu 11.10, Pithos latest daily)
I'm getting this issue. Ubuntu 13.04, 64 bit, using Spotify. Media controls work in the dropdown when you click the audio icon in the top bar, but pressing the media keys on my Logitech G510 shows the circle sign and does nothing. Volume and mute work fine. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/860600 Title: Media keys aren't working (Ubuntu 11.10, Pithos latest daily) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/860600/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 973366] Re: Minimising applications go to the wrong window list (with Compiz)
I have found that enabling the Keep previews of minimized windows-workaround in CCSM fixes this. [Bug 973221] [NEW] Lock screen breaks wallpaper on dual head
Public bug reported: I have two screens in a Nvidia/Twinview setup. There is a single-image wallpaper centered over the joined screens. When the lock screen shows, the wallpaper only shows on one screen (but the date/user information at the top shows on both). The aspect is preserved so this looks awful. [Bug 973366] [NEW] Minimising applications go to the wrong window list (with Compiz)
Public bug reported: I have two screens in Twinview. On each screen there is a Gnome-Panel at the bottom, each with its own window-list applet. Simple enough. If I open a window and move it over the second screen, the window list (correctly) updates. But if I then minimise the application, it and its window-list entry move over to the primary screen. Restoring the application from the primary window-list applet moves it back to the second screen. Steps for reproduction: - Prereqs: gnome-panel, compiz, two screens in Twinview - Create a new panel on second screen - Add Window List applet to new panel - Open any new window and move over to second screen - Minimise the window (in any way) - Glory as the window-list entry moves over to the primary window-list-applet. I should point out that this only seems to happen with Compiz. I admit I have very little understanding about how the window-list applet interfaces with the WM to get the lists of applications so this could very easily be a Compiz issue as much as it is a Gnome-Panel issue. Feel free to call me an idiot for filing it in the wrong place. [Bug 765794] Re: Many standard panel applets not available
I found that the bonobo configuration files for the applets weren't being loaded (hence they weren't available in the add-to-panel dialogue). I edited bonobo-activation-config.xml to look something like this: ?xml version=1.0? oafconfig searchpath item/usr/lib/bonobo/servers/item item/usr/local/lib/bonobo/servers/item /searchpath /oafconfig And everything but the clock works again. [Bug 642792] Re: ALT+PrtSc not recognised: breaks built-in screenshot function
@Fibonacci It has nothing to do with the window manager (metacity, compiz, whatever) because it's the kernel. It's blocking the sysrq key permeating to the rest of the system. You can prove this very easily in xev. -- ALT+PrtSc not recognised: breaks built-in screenshot function https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/642792 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 642792] Re: ALT+PrtSc not recognised: breaks built-in screenshot function
If alt+prscr is really rendering a sysrq event, it would appear that sysrq is not a bindable event. I can't get it to show up in anything (including xev). While I can see the technical argument for making alt trigger the alternate key, the solution in the latest kernel is at least 10 years too late. There is too much documentation and too much known behaviour to try (or want) to reverse things now without upsetting everybody who expects a windowshot from an alt+prscr combo. It's also well known that if you want sysrq, you use control+alt+prscr. I assume this key-combo is also broken now (or it renders as control+sysrq). Everything about this stinks to me and I think we should fight upstream all the way on this, disabling the new kernel configuration by default.
Martin Pitt: Do you have proof (or a patch) which would actually identify this as a kernel change? The only proof I had was anecdotal: I started using 2.6.35 on Lucid long before upgrading to Maverick. Alt-PrintScreen was broken back then, before any of Maverick's X changes were near my system. But if the patch by Dmitry Torokhov is the cause of this behavioural change (which it does look like it could be - it's making sysrq bypass evdev), we need to nail down the rationale (if it was intended) or blindly counter the patch... I can't see there being enough time to send this upstream, get a fix and get it back through trunk into maverick before release. -- ALT+PrtSc not recognised: breaks built-in screenshot function https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/642792 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 568241] Re: Rhythmbox does not see my Ipodtouch 32go
Was having this same problem for a while on my 64 bit system. It worked fine on my netbook and on someone else's 32 bit ubuntu setup. It seems to have started working after reinstalling gvfs-backends I'm not sure if that is what fixed it as I was trying many things, including trying other programs to attempt to connect to it. However, It did start working right after reinstalling that package. Before reinstalling, the touch would not appear under ~/.gvfs/ Right after reinstalling, it showed up in that folder after re-plugging the ipod. After restarting rhythmbox, it worked. ### Again, my problem was the same as the OP. I was able to browse it in Nautilus, however it wouldn't show up in Rythmbox. -- Rhythmbox does not see my Ipodtouch 32go https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/568241 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 15495] Re: Archive Manager doesn't mean anything if you don't know what an archive is
I do not think that we should simply use a particular term just because it is understood by users of a particular operating system: as has already been mentioned above, Windows and OSX use different terminologies anyway. I prefer the idea of using our own expressive terminology, ideally something that a complete novice to computer systems in general might grasp intuitively. As such I would suggest using the terms group (or bunch?) and compress (or squish?) in a context-sensitive manner. For example, right clicking on a single file could offer the option to Compress this file..., whilst right clicking on a selection of multiple files would offer something along the lines of Group and/or compress these files... (or Bunch and squish these files...?). -- Archive Manager doesn't mean anything if you don't know what an archive is https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/15495 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Hi Ricardo. Thanks for your suggestion! I have a dual seat configuration and use the evdev driver, so I'm not sure that I can (easily) reproduce the same setup with the live CD. [Bug 262520] Re: Make MAX_ITEMS_OR_SUBMENU a gconf key
There is an upstream patch to ship the variable to gconf. It's not the perfect fix -- that would be deteching the screen height and working out how many entries we could paint -- but it's a million miles better than the current state of things. I've seen this bug reported before (well over a year ago), dozens of forum threads about it all over the internet and there's still no sign of anybody taking it seriously. I don't want to sound snotty but wouldn't it be even slightly possible to get the patch worked in at our side rather than waiting another eternity for Gnome to step up? -- Make MAX_ITEMS_OR_SUBMENU a gconf key https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/262520 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 282842] [NEW] Places' truncation limit on bookmarks/drives is draconian
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel The bookmarks/drives system in the Ubuntu menu is limited to 5 items before it truncates into a folder-view. If you're still not with me, here's a picture: http://i.thepcspy.com/blog/20080626-ubuntu/menu.jpg I can see the merits for doing this, but *only* if showing everything would require the menu to have a scroll-bar. At the moment there's no effort to even detect how many entries we could paint - **it's hard- coded!** Can I please suggest we temporarily boost the hard-coded number to 10, release it and then come up with a better way of addressing the problem? ** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Places' truncation limit on bookmarks/drives is draconian https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/282842 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Its only searching for local cover art. debug-output (play song without local cover art): (12:30:31) [0x80dc408] [new_playing_stream_idle_cb] rb-shell-player.c:3062: new playing stream: file:///home/oliver/Musik/Kings%20of%20Leon/Because%20of%20the%20times/01%20Knocked%20Up.mp3 (12:30:31) [0x80dc408] [rb_shell_hidden_notify_markup] rb-shell.c:3094: shell is visible, not notifying (12:30:31) [0x80dc408] [rhythmdb_query_model_dispose] rhythmdb-query-model.c:633: disposing query model 0x8187a50 (12:30:31) [0x80dc408] [rhythmdb_query_model_finalize] rhythmdb-query-model.c:681: finalizing query model 0x8187a50 (12:30:31) [0x80dc408] [LocalCoverArtSearch.search] /usr/lib/rhythmbox/plugins/artdisplay/LocalCoverArtSearch.py:108: searching for local art for file:///home/oliver/Musik/Kings%20of%20Leon/Because%20of%20the%20times/01%20Knocked%20Up.mp3 (12:30:31) [0x80dc408] [rb_shell_player_sync_with_source] rb-shell-player.c:2599: playing source: 0x8329e20, active entry: 0xb463adb0 (12:30:31) [0x80dc408] [rb_shell_set_window_title] rb-shell.c:2144: setting title to Kings of Leon - Knocked Up (12:30:31) [0x80dc408] [rb_header_sync] rb-header.c:355: syncing with entry = 0xb463adb0 (12:30:31) [0x80dc408] [rb_shell_player_sync_buttons] rb-shell-player.c:2704: syncing with source 0x8329e20 (12:30:31) [0x80dc408] [tick_cb] rb-shell-player.c:3197: tick: [file:///home/oliver/Musik/Kings%20of%20Leon/Because%20of%20the%20times/01%20Knocked%20Up.mp3, 0:430(0)] (12:30:31) [0x80dc408] [new_playing_stream_idle_cb] rb-shell-player.c:3062: new playing stream: file:///home/oliver/Musik/Kings%20of%20Leon/Because%20of%20the%20times/01%20Knocked%20Up.mp3 (12:30:31) [0x80dc408] [rb_shell_hidden_notify_markup] rb-shell.c:3094: shell is visible, not notifying (12:30:31) [0x80dc408] [rhythmdb_query_model_dispose] rhythmdb-query-model.c:633: disposing query model 0x8187a50 (12:30:31) [0x80dc408] [rhythmdb_query_model_finalize] rhythmdb-query-model.c:681: finalizing query model 0x8187a50 (12:30:31) [0x80dc408] [LocalCoverArtSearch.search] /usr/lib/rhythmbox/plugins/artdisplay/LocalCoverArtSearch.py:108: searching for local art for file:///home/oliver/Musik/Kings%20of%20Leon/Because%20of%20the%20times/01%20Knocked%20Up.mp3 (12:30:31) [0x80dc408] [rb_shell_player_sync_with_source] rb-shell-player.c:2599: playing source: 0x8329e20, active entry: 0xb463adb0 (12:30:31) [0x80dc408] [rb_shell_set_window_title] rb-shell.c:2144: setting title to Kings of Leon - Knocked Up (12:30:31) [0x80dc408] [rb_header_sync] rb-header.c:355: syncing with entry = 0xb463adb0 (12:30:31) [0x80dc408] [rb_shell_player_sync_buttons] rb-shell-player.c:2704: syncing with source 0x8329e20 (12:30:31) [0x80dc408] [tick_cb] rb-shell-player.c:3197: tick: [file:///home/oliver/Musik/Kings%20of%20Leon/Because%20of%20the%20times/01%20Knocked%20Up.mp3, 0:430(0)] -- Fetching album cover art does not work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/209019 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 196506] Re: Compiz forgets plugins when disabled and reenabled
Thanks for the tip there Travis. That does indeed solve my problem, but a few questions: 1. Don't you think that implicitly wiping settings like that is a little confusing for people that don't know about it? Wouldn't a reset config button make a lot more sense? 2. Shouldn't normal and extra have some plugins enabled by default? 3. Why hide custom in its own package? It seems like it was much simpler when you just had custom there all the time and the link to ccsm next to it. Oh (and this might be known) the Appearance Preferences/Visual Effects panel never remembers that you have a custom layout - always showing Extra selected by default. -- Compiz forgets plugins when disabled and reenabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/196506 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 187200] Re: gvfsd-sftp crashed with SIGSEGV in g_data_input_stream_read_line()
Pedro: It all (uploading and unmounting) seems to work fine here without crashes on Hardy's latest packages. But there are still a load of missing things like: proper bookmarks for deep linking into sftp) or keyring integration. -- gvfsd-sftp crashed with SIGSEGV in g_data_input_stream_read_line() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/187200 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is the registrant for gvfs. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 185441] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_str_hash()
nanog: yes. Just restarted to make sure. Same as usual happened: 1. I clicked places, then the bookmark 2. It asked me for the keyring password 3. It thinks for a while and then asks me for another password (this time it will only accept the ssh password - as if it's not getting/using the correct data from the keyring) 4. Nautilus loads showing the / dir on the ssh, rather than the bookmarked directory. 5. I navigate to my home and upload some files, 6. Crash. Bam. Wallop. [Bug 185441] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_str_hash()
This is not fixed for me. Just tried to upload a batch of files over ssh/sftp. [Bug 185944] Re: [Hardy] Window List 2.21.5 will only show applications from ALL desktops
Well I've discovered that this was a clash between the compiz way of handling multiple (virtual) desktops and the gnome way. I currently can't open up the display settings dialogue (due to the Alpha4 blocking- bugs) but I'll clarify which settings are the problem areas. All-in-all, it is entirely possible that I caused this bug. -- [Hardy] Window List 2.21.5 will only show applications from ALL desktops https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/185944 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 185441] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_str_hash()
I have to say that SFTP is extremely dodgy in Hardy at the moment. I get the same errors when uploading just one file. I'm not sure if it's related but I also get a new dialogue box popping up asking me for a password *after* I'm asked to unlock the keyring. There are also a great deal of Cannot mount, etc errors that seem to bare no resemblance to what's actually going on on my system (eg: the error box will appear but everything's working fine) -- nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_str_hash() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/185441 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 63382] Re: Totem should allow to change hotkeys
I'm using 2.20.0 and I can't find *any* method of setting shortcut keys. Ideally, there would be something like that in the plain Xine player that lets you map any mouse or key combination to an action (eg: play- pause, full-screen, volume up and down). -- Totem should allow to change hotkeys https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/63382 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
