[Bug 795765] Re: In Ubuntu 10.10 Rhythmbox play/pause button does not work correctly
Installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS desktop-i386 (32bit) on the machine that had the original problem. The default music player is again rhythmbox, as it was on 10.10. The problem no longer exists in 12.04. [Bug 795765] [NEW] In Ubuntu 10.10 Rhythmbox play/pause button does not work correctly
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox Start a music track playing in a usual way, such as highlighting a track and pressing the play/pause button or double LMB clicking on a track. The play/pause button icon changes to a pause icon. If the play/pause button is pressed the button changes to a play button but has no effect on the track playing. The title bar of Rhythmbox then has (Paused) displayed after the artist and track details. If the play/pause button is pressed again it goes in and comes out but stays as a play button and the track carries on playing. A pause icon is displayed in the left speaker icon column in the track list next to the track that has been paused. The only way to stop the track playing is to Quit Rhythmbox. The next and previous track buttons do work correctly on a playing track, if the pause/play button is not pressed first. Also the slider that indicates how the progress of track can be moved left or right and everything behaves as expected. It is just that there is no way to pause/stop a playing track. The same behaviour happens if either the buttons on the top menu bar are used, or the laptop hot key buttons. If a second track is double LMB clicked to start (after a previous track has tried to be paused) the second track starts to play with the first one still playing as well. The play/pause button turns back to a pause button again. If the play/pause button is pressed the same behaviour is observed it turns to a play button, the menu bar displays (Paused) and the track carries on playing. This process can be repeated so that you have multiple tracks all playing and non being able to be paused/stop. Also using the previous/next track buttons, after one has tried to pause a track, causes a new track to start playing. A quit is the only control you seem to have to stop music playing. I have also started rhythmbox from a terminal in debug mode using: rhythmbox -d 2 rhythmbox_debug.txt and started track tried to pause it, used previous/next buttons, pressed play/pause again etc, so multiple tracks were playing. I have attached this output to this report. If I open the same folder of music (mp3 files) in VLC I can play/pause the music, previous/next buttons work ok. I have also tried Ubuntu 11.04 from the live CD, where Banshee is the default music player. I seemed to get the same behaviour with play/pause (ie not working) as I did with rhythmbox in 10.10. $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 10.10 Release:10.10 $ apt-cache policy rhythmbox rhythmbox: Installed: 0.13.1-0ubuntu6.1 Candidate: 0.13.1-0ubuntu6.1 Version table: *** 0.13.1-0ubuntu6.1 0 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick-updates/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 0.13.1-0ubuntu5 0 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick/main i386 Packages ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10 Package: rhythmbox 0.13.1-0ubuntu6.1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.35-28.50-generic-pae 2.6.35.11 Uname: Linux 2.6.35-28-generic-pae i686 Architecture: i386 Date: Fri Jun 10 22:41:02 2011 EcryptfsInUse: Yes InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat - Release i386 (20101007) ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_GB.utf8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: rhythmbox ** Affects: rhythmbox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 maverick ubuntu-une -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/795765 Title: In Ubuntu 10.10 Rhythmbox play/pause button does not work correctly To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/795765/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 714294] [NEW] Evolution Does Not Appear to Correctly Save Draft Email Messages If Using IMAP Folder and Offline
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution I am new to using Evolution, having previously used Thunderbird. I set Evolution up with IMAP access, using the imap+ option, to three different accounts. 1) Yahoo account 2) gmail account 3) NTL World (Virgin Media) account that is I believe just another gmail account All works well. I experimented with a few options and set the sent mail and drafts folder to be the corresponding IMAP folder for each account. I checked that on creating and saving a draft message that that message appeared in the IMAP draft folder for each account, both as seen in Evolution and on-line via the web portal connection to each account. I did the same for sent mail. All worked well. I had been on-line at this point. I then wondered what would happen if I was off-line. So I went off-line, I used two different methods, disconnecting the wireless connection and by clicking on the Evolution on/off line icon in the bottom left of the program window. Both methods seemed to produce the same results. This was: 1) Go off-line 2) Create new message 3) Save message, by clicking on icon on menu bar. There is no message when you do this to say if the save is or isn't successful. 4) After the save operation, immediately quit the message using the close button (top left menu bar cross in red-circle). The message window closes with no further dialog or prompt. 5) Now look for saved draft message. It can't be found. It is not in the designated drafts folder (an IMAP on-line draft folder). I had previously set the draft folder up for off-line access by right hand clicking on the folder and setting this by a tick-box on the properties item). I also could not find the message in any of the local folders. 6) I repeated this for all three account with the same behaviour. 7) The messages appear to have been lost. Well at least I couldn't find them to re-open them to continue and send them. Now it might be reasonable to suggest I should use a local folder for drafts (the Evolution default), but I wanted to try to see if I could synchronize send and drafts messages between machines using imap. What I would hope is: 1) Evolution would not allow a save operation that did not not work and then allow the use to quit the message window without any prompt. 2) If Evolution has saved the message it would be useful to make it clear to the user where it has been saved. Now having said all of this on quitting Evolution I did receive a message pop-up window about I would lose some data (I can't remember the exact message dialog box), and on selecting the safe option not to quit, one of my closed message windows may have re-appeared. I can't be sure about this as it could have been an open draft window that I had not saved. It certainly was not all of the missing draft messages. The other related item is it is not clear how to easily set up all on-line folders in an account for off-line access. I thought I had done this in the main settings, but then when right clicking on each folder: Properties - Copy folder content for offline operation was not ticked. I seemed to have to individually set this for every folder, not ideal. Have I missed an easy way to set this up so that any future created imap folder would automatically be setup for off-line access? [Bug 696773] [NEW] Rhythmbox Play/Pause button not working correctly
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox Ubuntu 10.10 32bit standard live CD used to install system on a Dell Studio Laptop 1555. Rhythmbox Play/Pause button not working correctly, in both mini (from main Gnome bar sound icon) and main Rhythmbox GUI window, and with laptop hot-key Play/pause, worked correctly in Totem Movie Player (v2.32.0), both the button in the Totem GUI and the laptop play/pause hot-key. If you open Rhythmbox, and select a track. You can start the track playing using one of the play buttons, main/mini/hotkey, but after that pressing any one of the play/pause buttons does not pause the track. If you quit from the Rhythmbox you can then repeat (ie start a track using one of the play buttons). Note that pressing the pause icon in the GUI causes the button to change to a Play button, but the track continues playing. If the Play button is now pressed nothing changes, ie it remains as a Play button. If you quit from Rhythmbox, re-start Rhythmbox, this behaviour can be repeated. The same is seen if you press the mini player Pause icon once a track is playing. Suspect (guess) that this issue started after installing the unity (netbook) window manager? I cannot be sure as I have also installed the various updates that have been available. The issue above is occuring with the standard Gnome window manager. The same behaviour also occurs if I use the netbook window manager. To confirm that the play/pause buttons had worked previously booted up using standard Gnome 10.10 32bit live CD. Rhythmbox play/pause and laptop hotkey buttons worked corrected. Other buttons (ie the previous and next track) work correctly both in the main GUI, mini player, and using the laptop hotkeys. $ apt-cache policy rhythmbox rhythmbox: Installed: 0.13.1-0ubuntu6 Candidate: 0.13.1-0ubuntu6 Version table: *** 0.13.1-0ubuntu6 0 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick-updates/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 0.13.1-0ubuntu5 0 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick/main i386 Packages ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10 Package: rhythmbox 0.13.1-0ubuntu6 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.35-24.42-generic-pae 2.6.35.8 Uname: Linux 2.6.35-24-generic-pae i686 Architecture: i386 Date: Mon Jan 3 12:25:40 2011 EcryptfsInUse: Yes InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat - Release i386 (20101007) ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_GB.utf8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: rhythmbox ** Affects: rhythmbox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 maverick ubuntu-une -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/696773 Title: Rhythmbox Play/Pause button not working correctly -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I also tried running totem in dedug mode, no messages that appeared seemed to relate to the issue: $ totem --debug (totem:3534): Totem-DEBUG: Received SaveYourself(SmSaveLocal, !Shutdown, SmInteractStyleNone, !Fast) in state idle (totem:3534): Totem-DEBUG: Setting initial properties (totem:3534): Totem-DEBUG: Sending SaveYourselfDone(True) for initial SaveYourself (totem:3534): Totem-DEBUG: Received SaveComplete message in state save-yourself-done (totem:3534): Totem-DEBUG: Init of Python module (totem:3534): Totem-DEBUG: Registering Python plugin instance: BBCViewer+TotemPythonPlugin (totem:3534): Totem-DEBUG: Creating object of type BBCViewer+TotemPythonPlugin (totem:3534): Totem-DEBUG: Creating Python plugin instance (totem:3534): Totem-DEBUG: Finalizing Python plugin instance After your comment that that's more like a codecs issue and not a totem bug I remembered that I had previously installed the package (via synaptic): ubuntu-restricted-extras I removed this package (via synaptic). I still got the same response when trying to load the mp4 file, it did not play and no response at all as to why. Even after a reboot. The file I am trying to play does appear in the Supported files list when I was selecting it from within totem, both with and without the ubuntu-restricted-extras packages installed. -- Totem Movie Player cannot Play MP4 Files - It Should at least tell the user this https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/614303 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to totem in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 614303] [NEW] Totem Movie Player cannot Play MP4 Files - It Should at least tell the user this
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: totem Clean install of Ubuntu 10.04. $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS Release:10.0 The Totem Movie Player cannot play MP4 files. It lets one browse and select one: Movie - Open... However, after selecting an mp4 file and pressing Add the dialogue box closes and nothing further happens. There is no message at all. The only thing that may appear to change is that that at the bottom of the totem window it says: Stopped 0:00 / 0:/00 If it cannot play a particular file format it ought to at least inform the user if i cannot play a particular file format. I installed VLC (reports itself as 1.0.6) from Synaptic and this was able to open and play the mp4 file. [Bug 209714] Re: gnome-open incorrectly uses eince to open pdf files even after I select Acroread as the default handler in nautilus
Confirmed here. I have epdfviewer as the default app to open pdf docs in Nautilus. but gnome-open will always use Evince. To be honest, I couldn't care less about this bug but Gnome-Do apparently uses gnome-open to open docs. so I'll still suffer Evince until the bug is fixed or Gnome-do dropping gnome-open. -- gnome-open incorrectly uses eince to open pdf files even after I select Acroread as the default handler in nautilus https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/209714 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
