[Bug 469459] [NEW] Cover editor text disappears and reappears

2009-11-01 Thread Panagiotis Issaris
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

Description:Ubuntu 9.10
Release:9.10

2.28.1-0ubuntu1

When using the cover editor for an audio CD, all tracks and a title are
added to the cover template, but they are invisible (initially I thought
nothing was added). Clicking on random locations makes the text on that
location appear. By clicking in a regular downward pattern, you can make
all text reappear. Scrolling down to the backside of the cover and back
up to the frontcover, causes all text on the frontcover to disappear
again.

I also tried using the cover editor for a plain data CD, and the same
problem occurs. The covers for the data CD contain nothing, but adding
text and scrolling down to the back cover, makes the front covers text
invisible. Clicking at the location of the hidden text makes it
reappear.

[Bug 469493] [NEW] Visualization fails

2009-11-01 Thread Panagiotis Issaris
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Clicking on the visualization icon on the toolbar stops the music after
about 1 second and shows something which should become the
visualization, but blocks. So, a window is shown, but there's nothing in
it or for some plugins one frame of animation is shown, after which the
music stops and the animation does not go beyond showing that one frame.
Changing visualization plugins didn't help. Whichever I choose, no
animation occurs, and music stops playing. Rhythmbox does not hang, as
clicking on the visualization icon again, and clicking on the play icon
makes the playback of music continue.

When the music is stopped by the visualization window, clicking on the
play icon does nothing at all.

[Bug 463944] [NEW] Ubuntu 9.10 Movie Player YouTube channel doesn't work

2009-10-29 Thread Panagiotis Issaris
Public bug reported:

One can enter a keyword and MoviePlayer will search YouTube for that
keyword, but no thumbnails appear for the video at first. Clicking
Find a second time makes them appear. But double-clicking them does
not play them, but makes a error-dialog appear stating: An error occurd
- GStreamer encountered a general supporting library error..

Playing .flv files which I had downloaded beforehand from YouTube works
fine (after confirming that GStreamer was allowed to install additional
codecs). So, to make it clear: I tried GStreamer on .flv files. It
complained about missing codecs and asked permission to install them. I
confirmed and they got installed without any issues. After that the
videos played fine (both the normal quality YouTube vids and the HQ
ones, and various other files on my harddrive). But, when choosing
YouTube in the MoviePlayer itself, and trying to play the videos
found, it fails with the error mentioned above.

The Nautilus preferences are not accessible from the
System-Preferences menu. Settings such as a preference for
single/double clicking are difficult to locate by normal users. The
user which asked me to change this behavior had been looking in the
System-Preferences menu without success, thus the
Nautilus-Edit-Preferences-Behavior seems to be not
visible|accessible enough.

[Bug 60277] Re: Windows Network entries use a text icon instead of a computer one

2006-11-07 Thread Panagiotis Issaris
I tried the posted patch and I rebuild the gnome-
vfs2_2.16.1-0ubuntu2.dsc package. The result now is that I do not see
the blank icons anymore, but I still cannot really use the network. Only
two hosts show up, while there really are many hosts... Initially I
thought the blank icons (the hosts which are not recognized/accessible)
just were not visible anymore, but after thinking it through, that can't
be the case. Without the above patch applied, clicking refresh showed
different hosts being accessible on every new click. With the patch
applied, clicking refresh changes nothing. The same two hosts appear,
with the rest of the network being unaccessible.

[Bug 69504] Cannot play movies on shared network drive (SMB) using Totem

2006-10-31 Thread Panagiotis Issaris
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

When adding a network share using Places-Connect to server and
accessing that drive, I noticed that I cannot play movies on the remote
drive. Viewing pictures on that same drive works fine (using EOG by just
clicking in Nautilus), as does opening textfiles (using gedit by
clicking).

When clicking a movie though, it won't work and shows the following message:
Totem could not play 'smb://EDM;[EMAIL PROTECTED]/public/test.avi'.
Could not read from resource.

gnomevfs-ls, gnomevfs-info and gnomevfs-cp work fine on the files.

I've tested this on two separate systems.
Bug 26819 at first seemed the same, but it isn't, as that user can play some
files, but not all. Apparantly due to some characters occuring in the filename
or so.
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/totem/+bug/26819

In my case _no_ movies are playable if they are accessed through SMB.

[Bug 69504] Re: Cannot play movies on shared network drive (SMB) using Totem

2006-10-31 Thread Panagiotis Issaris
It appears that a quick flash appears in the status bar, in that the 0%
changes into 100% just one instant (and thus turns orange).

Furthermore, it appears that with the Xine backend, it can actually open
and parse the file in someway, as it shows the correct title of the
movie in the title bar.

[Bug 69504] Re: Cannot play movies on shared network drive (SMB) using Totem

2006-10-31 Thread Panagiotis Issaris
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 60326 ***

Xine-ui SMB browsing seems broken. I see the network groups appearing,
but the hosts within only appears now and then. If the hosts do appear,
and I doubleclick on one of them, it shows no content.

It seems xine can't use an smb://server/share parameter on the
commandline, so I can't try to circumvent the browsing problems as they
seem to be rather common (I reported a problem with Edgy's SMB browsing
earlier).

The /usr/bin/totem binary of the totem-xine package seems to be linked against
libgnomevfs too:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/local/src/mplayer$ ldd /usr/bin/totem|grep -i vfs
libgnomevfs-2.so.0 = /usr/lib/libgnomevfs-2.so.0 (0xb771)
So, I am not sure if it is using its own SMB implementation or using gnomevfs's.

gxine couldn't play SMB files either.

[Bug 69504] Re: Cannot play movies on shared network drive (SMB) using Totem

2006-10-31 Thread Panagiotis Issaris
I now installed totem-xine (2.16.2-0ubuntu1) and it appears it is also
impossible to play SMB files with that backend for totem. After clicking
on a file, Totem appears and all _seems_ to work well. It shows a
message Buffering 0% in the status bar, but after a few seconds it
changes into Paused. I still figured everything was okay, but clicking
Play made the Buffering 0% reappear and disappear again after a few
seconds. Playing movies seems impossible.

[Bug 68611] Browsing a SMB network fails in strange ways

2006-10-27 Thread Panagiotis Issaris
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libgnomevfs2-extra

When using the Places-Network Servers menu in Ubuntu 6.10, in our
network, one first sees an icon titled Windows Network. After
doubleclicking on this icon, a list of workgroup names appear, some have
an icon representing this, some have a blank rectangular icon. When
doubleclicking on a non-blank icon, one sees the hosts without that
workgroup, and again, some are represented with a blank icon, other with
a real icon. When one doubleclicks on such a real icon, the shares
are shown as they should be.

The problem occurs with the groups and hosts represented by the blank
icons. When clicking on those, we're getting a errormessage saying:
Couldn't display smb://edm/WVANHAEVRE. The location is not a folder..

What is very weird, is that by using the Reload button on Nautilus,
the icons of the hosts change, in that some that used to have a blank
icon, get a real one, and some having a real one, get a blank icon.
Which one gets which icon seems to happen at random.

This makes browsing very unpleasant, and rather unusable. It gives it a
rather broken appearance.

I will try to attach some screenshots illustrating this. If this can't
be done within lanchpad, I'll upload them to Flickr.

[Bug 68611] Re: Browsing a SMB network fails in strange ways

2006-10-27 Thread Panagiotis Issaris
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 60277 ***

A colleague of mine (W. Vanhaevre) first encountered this bug, it was
easily reproducable on my system. Both are running an up-to-date Ubuntu
6.10 (Edgy) on x86 hardware.

The problem seems to be specific to the browsing/discovery part of the
SMB protocol, as directly accessing servers through their name works
fine e.g. smb://hostname/sharename.
