[Bug 1924998] Re: Desktop freezes for one second then keeps going
Hi Daniel, I did that a few days ago. The extension that triggers the problem is gsconnect. There is a related open bug on that extension at https://github.com/GSConnect/gnome-shell-extension-gsconnect/issues/1028 I waited to report it here because we were doing some investigations then I forgot. My bad. It could be a problem completely due to the extension or split between the extension and the shell. I don't know how to help investing it. ** Bug watch added: github.com/GSConnect/gnome-shell-extension-gsconnect/issues #1028 https://github.com/GSConnect/gnome-shell-extension-gsconnect/issues/1028 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1924998 Title: Desktop freezes for one second then keeps going To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1924998/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1924998] [NEW] Desktop freezes for one second then keeps going
Public bug reported: > What you expected to happen Normal operation: no delays when typing or moving windows around > What happened instead Since a few days ago I started noticing occasional lag when typing (sometimes three words appearing together, as on a slow netword connection) and when moving windows, as if the system was on a high load. If I close almost everything it gets a little better, if I restart Gnome Shell with ALT-F2 r RETURN it gets better for a few minutes. Ghome Shell is always one of the top consumers of CPU and RAM, but this was always the case. I don't have particular problems with RAM, I'm usually not using more than 20 GB out of 32 with many long running programs (VMs, browsers, etc). Sometimes I notice a Gnome Shell crash in the logs, as the one I attached. > The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System -> About Ubuntu Description:Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS Release:20.04 > The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname' or by checking in Software Center gnome-shell: Installed: 3.36.7-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 Candidate: 3.36.7-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 Version table: *** 3.36.7-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 500 500 http://it.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal-updates/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 3.36.4-1ubuntu1~20.04.2 500 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal-security/main amd64 Packages 3.36.1-5ubuntu1 500 500 http://it.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/main amd64 Packages ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 Package: gnome-shell 3.36.7-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.4.0-70.78-generic 5.4.94 Uname: Linux 5.4.0-70-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia_modeset nvidia ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu27.16 Architecture: amd64 CasperMD5CheckResult: skip CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Mon Apr 19 11:28:45 2021 DisplayManager: gdm3 InstallationDate: Installed on 2019-10-19 (548 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 19.10 "Eoan Ermine" - Release amd64 (20191017) RelatedPackageVersions: mutter-common 3.36.7+git20201123-0.20.04.1 SourcePackage: gnome-shell UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to focal on 2020-07-05 (288 days ago) ** Affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug focal -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1924998 Title: Desktop freezes for one second then keeps going To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1924998/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1581384] [NEW] Desktop contents displayed on resume before lock screen is shown
Public bug reported: Following to the suggestion at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source /gnome-screensaver/+bug/1280300/comments/17 I'm opening this new bug. It's very similar, possibly a duplicate, of #1280300 and #1509711 but apparently we have to open a bug for every desktop environment we use. I'm on 16.04 with Gnome-Flashback Compiz, XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=GNOME- Flashback:Unity When I resume from sleep, the contents of my desktop (including any open windows, emails, etc) are displayed onscreen briefly before the unlock screen is shown. This potentially allows an attacker to view the contents of a locked screen. To reproduce: 1) Suspend a machine, e.g. by closing the lid 2) Resume the machine Expected results: Upon resume, the first thing shown onscreen is the screensaver unlock screen. Actual results: Upon resume, the first thing shown onscreen is the set of open windows that were displayed before the machine was put to sleep. After a second or two, the unlock screen is drawn and you have to enter a password to unlock the machine. This is reproducible on my system. $ lsb_release -a No LSB modules are available. [Bug 1280300] Re: Desktop contents displayed on resume, before lock screen is shown
This bug started happening on my laptop after installing 16.04. With 12.04 there never was any problem and I never had this problem with an older laptop, from 8.04 to 15.10. I'm running XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=GNOME-Flashback:Unity Given the suggestion at #17 I'll open a new bug for that DE. Everybody should open a new bug for the DE you use. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-screensaver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1280300 Title: Desktop contents displayed on resume, before lock screen is shown To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-screensaver/+bug/1280300/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1087206] Re: Evince often hangs on close
I'm experiencing this very same problem on a fresh install of 12.04. It didn't happen to my old PC. I realized that it happens when gvfsd-metadata starts taking 100% of one of my CPU cores. That usually happens when I move icons on the desktop (nautilus sends a request to gvfsd-metadata). That also didn't happen on my old PC and it's quite annoying. So the workaround for both problems (evince and 100% CPU) is pkill gvfsd-metadata It will start again when other programs need it. There is a thread about that a http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1421580 and a bug open at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/517021 and the upstream one at https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=637095 It's about race conditions in the metadata daemon. It seems it has been patched by the Gnome developers but probably not in the Gnome version I'm using on 12.04 ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #637095 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=637095 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evince in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1087206 Title: Evince often hangs on close To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evince/+bug/1087206/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 517021] Re: gvfsd-metadata causes 100% CPU usage
It happened to me on a fresh install of 12.04. It's not about full disk partitions because I'm not even at 50% of my disks. It might be about indexing large files (I downloaded several VMs). Removing the exec permissions on /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd-metadata fixes it but I'm losing some functionality. Most evidently, the desktop doesn't remember the position of the icons across logout/logins. I wonder what else is broken. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/517021 Title: gvfsd-metadata causes 100% CPU usage To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/517021/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 996150] Re: Rhythmbox writes wrong ID3 tags when multiple files are changed
The importance of this bug for a LTS release shouldn't be set to low. It takes a lot of time to correct the ID3 tags, the fastest way is probably to recover the files from a backup. I'll try to upgrade to 2.97 from the PPA linked in here http://www.webupd8.org/2012/10/rhythmbox-298-released-install-it-in.html (they say 2.98 has another bug). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/996150 Title: Rhythmbox writes wrong ID3 tags when multiple files are changed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/rhythmbox/+bug/996150/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 738226] [NEW] Evince asks for password at the wrong time
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evince I've got a PDF document with Password Security enabled but set to ask password only for changing the permissions of the file. The Document Open Password setting is no as you can see in the image Acrobat_security.png in the attached zip file. Adobe Reader X 10.0.1 on Windows XP handles the permissions correctly and doesn't ask for password when I open the file. Evince on ubuntu 10.10 asks for password right away when I click to open the document. See the image Evince_security.png Evince should ask for password only when I try to change it's permissions and let me see the file. I usually start my day long editing session with emacs file from there because it much faster than opening the main menu as I always have an open terminal. [Bug 49579] Re: screen doesn't lock when panel menu is open
If I can add a word, there are no clear logical connections between locking the screen and the screensaver. I don't use any screensaver but I still want to be able to lock the screen when I'm away so I was very surprised when clicking on Lock Screen produced no result.
