2021-05-07 Thread Pawel
apport information

** Tags added: ubuntu

** Description changed:

I have a problem with logging into Ubuntu, i.e. in the login window I
cannot enter the password for 10-20 seconds (most often with a cold
start) the keyboard does not work (laptop keyboard). After several
seconds, the keyboard starts and I can enter the password. I tested on
"clean" versions of Ubuntu 20.04.2.0 LTS, 20.10 (also with Kernel 5.10),
21.04. The problem occurs on the HP Pavilion 15-eg0016nw laptop with an
Intel Core i7-1135G7 processor (also occurs on the HP Pavilion
  15-eg0073cl with Intel Core i7-1165G7).

During normal operation, the keyboard works without any problems - the
problem is only when logging into the system.

I am using the latest BIOS version (F.12), but I have also used older
  versions: F.5 and F.11.

Another user with the HP Pavilion 15-eg0073cl laptop (a very similar laptop
model) has the same problem:

[Bug 1771161] Re: system hangs after too fast typing password

2018-05-15 Thread Pawel Grycz
Ok, it's like You start ubuntu or want it back to work after suspend and
there is an annoying a little bit moment before login window to
appear...it's often like a black screen covers already that login window
and something is alike still 'loading' but You can login anyway (start
typing to quicken the process) as I did it in former versions of ubuntu.
The thing is that when You start typing password to early like without
waiting till this black screen disappears so to see the login window,
the system hangs like it's impossible to login/type: cannot write
anything in login password or the 'dots' mimicking password when You
normally type it starts to run like automat (like You could push and
hold some typing button endlessly) and You can't stop this process. The
only way is to reboot ubuntu via hard reset.

[Bug 1771161] [NEW] system hangs after too fast typing password

2018-05-14 Thread Pawel Grycz
Public bug reported:

Every time there is login window like when system starts or after system
suspends and I won't wait few seconds to login background uncovers to
show the password area popup and start type the password in that area
it's like some typing runs like automat and never stops or just one
letter is typed but overall login process is frozen so the only way to
work around this issue is a hard reset. This had occured in 17.10
version of ubuntu.

[Bug 1594880] Re: Location settings missing in scope until reboot

2016-06-22 Thread Pawel Stolowski
This seems to be a system issue with GPS, location is not available to
any apps (I've tried uNav and Here maps) until you reboot after the
wizard; dmesg shows this: http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/17685029/

I just confirmed with tvoss this is a known issue.

[Bug 1045477] [NEW] incorrect handling of two batteries

2012-09-03 Thread Pawel Kot
Public bug reported:

I have two batteries: one main and one extended. The problem is when the
extended runs out of power and the main is still full, g-p-m triggers
the action on the critical power level while IMHO it should recognize
the other battery will last for more than two hours.

[Bug 989554] [NEW] Some windows loose decoration on small screen

2012-04-27 Thread Pawel Stolowski
Public bug reported:

Windows that have some size constraints (i.e. can't be made smaller than their
original size) and don't have enough space on the screen on startup, loose
decorations when started on small screen.

Preconditions:
- screen resolution 800x600.
- a panel taking some space on the left (in my case - unity-2d launcher, always
shown).

I observed this problem for two applications: gnome-control-center and dejadup
in Ubuntu 12.04. It seems that metacity considers them maximized if they don't
have enough horizontal space on start.

There is a gconf metacity flag - show_maximized_titlebars - if set, then the
problem is gone, however the window can't be made fullscreen, as metacity seems
to consider it maximized already.

2009-05-19 Thread Pawel Bednarski
But still it hanged. And does not show me content of the folder making me
upset. It is making ubuntu useless and not the desktop os. As an user I expect
it to be:
a) operable (it displays my folder content!)
b) logical (when it says (in context of size) about other file types it says
about other types and not excluding video files not stating that!)
So fix it or state in description that this limit is not about videos. And if
not about vides let me disable thumbs generation for videos.

[Bug 121090] Re: Evolution fails to download some gmail emails

2008-07-07 Thread Pawel Pokrywka
Hi,

Very similiar problem as mine.

The interesting part (in my case) is that evolution actually downloads the
message, but after that it is not shown in Inbox (it is there -- I can see the
message via web-interface).
I've verified it using tcpdump and sending email with 1.5M attachment from
other account, then trying to fetch it. Tcpdump clearly show that the message
was downloaded.

I suspect that latest evolution update broke it. I will install older
version and see if it works.

I'm using GMail, evolution 2.22.2-0ubuntu2, Ubuntu 8.04.

[Bug 121090] Re: Evolution fails to download some gmail emails

2008-07-07 Thread Pawel Pokrywka
I've tried doing backup/restore with partial success.

From evolution menu: file - backup settings, then switch to fresh unix
account, start evolution and choose restore from first-run wizard.
Restore process took some time, as my inbox is quite large.

And it worked, I mean I was able to receive new messages. Few mails have
vanished in the restore process as I counted all folders before. However
vanished messages was either junk (mainly) or from mailing lists (just
one or two), so it was acceptable.

Then I tried to do the same on my normal unix account. I deleted
~/.evolution and .gconf/apps/evolution and started evolution. Wizard pop
up, I've choosen restore -- my messages and settings were restored (this
time more junk vanished), but unfortunately the problem didn't disapear
-- I'm still unable to see new received messages.

[Bug 32089] Re: Non-i18n date formatting in Evolution time edit fields

2007-11-18 Thread Pawel Stolowski
I found someone reported this problem on Ubuntu Forums and found a workaround:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=586410highlight=evolution+date+format

The problem seems to be related to locale definitions (e.g.
/usr/share/i18n/pl_PL) and was introduced in Ubuntu Gutsy - Evolution
worked fine in Feisty. As a workaround you may use locale definition
from Feisty, or just patch LC_TIME definition in the appropriate file
for you language with the one from Feisty.

Maybe it deserves a separate bug report for locales?

[Bug 90925] hardware brightness keys on lenovo R60e are working strange in gnome

2007-03-09 Thread Pawel Ludwikow
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Feisty herd5. IBM/lenovo R60e. Kernel 2.6.20-9-generic

Problem: the hardware brightness keys (Fn+Home brighter Fn+End
dimmer) are working in most strange way: when either one is pressed
the display is made blank. The screen is restored after a few clicks
(Fn+Home takes longer to return to visible state than Fn+End). The gnome
brightness popup usually shows the correct brightness setting. The keys
are working ok in win xp pro and in virtual consoles.

Additionally the dropdown brightness applet doesn't work as expected:
clicking on the slidebar causes the display to cycle from brightest do
dimmest setting (or vice versa) in less than 1 second. It is very
difficult to set the intermediate brightness level using this slider.
The /proc/acpi/ibm interface however works flawlessly - allows to read
the brightness setting and to change it.

[Bug 70727] Moving shortcuts - disappear icons

2006-11-07 Thread Pawel
Public bug reported:

In short:
1. Creating shortcut on Desktop, moving them by drag'n'drop to gnome-panel and
delate shortcut on desktop cause that that shortcut on panel is disappeaer
after next login.

2. Moving shortcuts between 2 panels via drag 'n'drop method cause that
this shortcut disappear (no icon, no other informations, only gnome-
foot-qestion is showing).

More informations about this bug:
When you click right button on shortcut and choose move then you can simply
move this icon e.g. to other panel without any problems.
But when you catch this icon by drag'n'drop method - you can move this shortcut
to other panel, but when you drop - then instead of default icon there will be
gnome foot icon (no shortcut).

There is also one thing: when you try to move one shortcut form desktop to one
panel and after that move it to another panel - then it works...but once again
move to another panel shows the same problem.

Best Regards
Pawel

[Bug 34710] Flight 5 i386 LiveCD hangs while starting

2006-03-12 Thread Pawel Rostkowski
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/34710

Affects: gdm (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
I gave a try recent Flight 5 of Dapper. And Live CD hangs while starting on my
Dell INSPIRON 6000 with ATI Mobility X300 Radeon.
It stops at the final step. After getting GDM start I receive a black screen
and I can't move back to console.
No problems while running/installing Breezy...just run out of the box.
